Penelope listened dutifully to the young red head's words but before she could respond the girl rushed off to throw her hat in for a tournament.
The young butler was unsure what to make of the new girl, but she was given a request and she would have to oblige. Penelope prided herself in being prepared, and she had already prepared several business cards prior to this event.
Unfortunately, they were the business card of her employer, with the blonde girl's contact information. With a pen in her hand however, Penelope was able to jot down her contact information. She took great care to write her name, Penelope Springs. It was the first and only gift her mother ever gave her. Her phone number was a little less care. It was still legible, but it obviously took her less time then her name did. Finally her email address, psprings@liberta.edu was hastily written down, as though something she took much less pride in. The L in Liberta and the I looked almost identical, with only a small dot above the second one to differentiate them.
After a bit of a wait, the red headed girl returned and asked a simple question. "So, how goes it?"
She most likely didn't mean anything by it, but Penelope stopped to consider it. It had been a while since anyone had asked how she was doing. She had often felt like a minor character in someone else's story, and while it wasn't a bad existence it wasn't a particularly good one either. She couldn't say "It's going well" because she was thousands of miles away from her best friend. And she couldn't say "It's going poorly" because, as her father used to say, things could always be worse and they should count their blessing and be lucky to be alive.
After a long pause she finally answered: "It's going."
Without much more opportunity for a conversation, it seemed the tournament began and despite her lack of interest in the game it seemed that somehow her name had been entered into the ring.
Only two people at this entire party knew her name, and she briefly wondered if this was the makings of her employer or the mischievous little redhead she had just met. Nevertheless, she would give it her all so as not to disappoint herself.
Somehow Penelope had managed to get along further than she thought, beating three duelists before losing to the fourth. She wasn't sure how she felt about the loss. She didn't really have an interest in winning and she didn't particularly want to upstage her employer. That's not to say she held back, however she certainly did feel a bit distracted as she dueled the boy, using the same archetype that her best friend Reiji Timore had used. She felt slightly relieved that Melody was able to get revenge on the boy that took her out of the tournament, but felt a tinge of sadness as she sort of hoped the Faux!Timore would make it further in this tournament.
With her tournament story now at an end, Penelope stood to the side, not really cheering but also not booing. She was merely observing as the semi-finals began, a duel between her employer and her... possibly a new friend?
When the structure of the tournament was announced, Zephyr "Hmph"ed, annoyed. "If you had said that it was a typical singles tournament from the start, you'd have more people in it...!" She was put off by Kai's secrecy. Had she known what the tournament would be, she would have joined without a second thought. Now, she was unofficially grouped among those who weren't 'true duelists,' which - after knowing the tourney style - pissed her off. She had half a mind to just bail from the party in a silent huff, but decided to, instead, see what the competition at this academy was like. There were good duels, great duels, and the occasional bad-draw blowouts. Zephyr had to admit that the majority of the duels were pretty cool and even gave her an idea or two for her own deck. ...She just regretted not being a participant in it. "I can't believe I passed on this...! Even that rich blonde's butler's in it! So what, is a butler supposed to be more of a duelist than I am!?" she muttered to herself. "...You've gotta be kidding me...!"
And the butler did damn well, to boot. By the time the quarterfinal qualifiers had rolled around, however, Ms. Springs had been defeated. Zephyr had her eyes on the young woman and planned to address her issue at another point in time. Fast forward to now, the first set of semifinalists were preparing to square off. Tomozawa and Kasakura: these two girls had fought their way up through some weird game states and powerful boards, respectively. This bout could prove to be interesting, to say the least. If their previous matches were anything to go by, Zephyr felt almost certain that both duelists will be blasting out of the gate as soon as possible. It was just a matter of who will do it first, and who will do it the best.

Melody couldn't help but giggle at the girl's request. She certainly was a strange one.
"You truly are a strange one, Kasakura-san," said Melody as she drew her starting hand. "Tell you what. Let's place a little wager on this duel. If you win, I'll treat you to lunch or dinner at whatever restaurant you like. But if I win, you have to join me for afternoon tea."
And with that, the words "DUEL" appeared on the monitor, signaling that it was time to begin.
"And on that note, I'll go first! I'll start by Special Summoning Madolche Petingcessoueur!"
As Melody placed her card of the old-fashioned card reader, the circuitry lit up. An adorable little toddler with puffy blonde hair appeared on the field below and twirled around once, giggling as she did so.
"Thanks to Petingcessoueur's special ability, if I have no monsters in my graveyard, I'm allowed to special summon her directly from my hand! And now for my cute imouto's other ability! When she's Special Summoned, I'm allowed to Special Summon another Madolche monster from my hand or deck! Come forth, Madolche Anjelly!"
A cute white-robed angel appeared holding a spoon.
"The monster summoned by Petingcessoeur's effect loses 1 level, but it doesn't matter, since she won't be staying long, anyway. Once per turn, I'm allowed to tribute her to special summon a Madolche monster from my deck. The monster summoned by this effect can't be destroyed in battle, but gets shuffled back into my deck at the end of my turn! I summon Madolche Hootcake!"
Anjelly vanished, and an owl in a fancy suit appeared in her place.
"Next comes Hootcake's ability! By banishing a monster from my graveyard, I'm allowed to special summon a Madolche monster from my deck! So, I banish Anjelly from my graveyard to special summon Madolche Messengelato from my deck!"
A boy in a brown suit with a red beret and carrying a green satchel appeared next to Hootcake.
"And here's Messengelato's ability! If he's special summoned while I have a beast-type Madolche monster on the field - like Hootcake here - I'm allowed to search my deck for any spell or trap with Madolche in its name and add it to my hand! And I choose Madolche Chateau!"
Melody pulled said card from her deck, then re-shuffled.
"Here's where things get interesting! Now I'm activating two spell cards! First is the permanent spell card, Madolche Salon!"
Melody placed said card on the card reader, causing the circuitry to light up again. A giant hologram of the spell card appeared down below, standing upright in the Spell/Trap Zone.
"And the second spell is the field spell, Madolche Chateau!"
As Melody played this card, a translucent mural of the field surrounded the arena, and also caused an image of the field spell to appear on the duel field below them. Melody smiled as she looked down.
"My butler Hershey told me about this when I was little. Back when Master Rule 0 was the standard, duelists would call this a Field Power Bonus. Also, just as a quick reminder, I still haven't Normal Summoned for this turn. So I'll do just that with the other Madolche Petingcessoeur in my hand!"
Another Petingcessoeur appeared, twirling and giggling.
"Now, let's kick things up a notch! Come forth, the circuit of royal elegance!" A beam of light shot out of Melody's hand to the field below, causing a Link Circuit to appear in the Extra Monster Zone.
"Arrowhead confirmed! Summoning conditions are two Madolche monsters! I'm setting Madolche Hootcake and Madolche Messengelato onto the Link Arrows!"
Hootcake and Messengelato turned into streams of light and were absorbed into the Link Arrows. "Circuit Combine!"
"Link Summon, Link 2! Madolche Fresh Sistart!" An adorable nun in a blue habit appeared.
"Next, I'm using my two Level 4 Petingcesoeurs to construct the Overlay Network!"
The two Petingcessoeurs turned into streams of light as they were absorbed into the swirling vortex that appeared suddenly. A second later, a huge beam of light exploded from the vortex.
"All-knowing educator of the kingdom of sweets, guide us with your boundless wisdom! Xyz Summon! Come forth, Rank 4! Madolche Teacher Glassouffle!"
A green-haired woman in a matching dress with glasses and a metal pointer appeared.
"I place two cards face-down, and end my turn! Now, Kasakura-san! Show me what you've got!"

((OOC: Post was edited to include Melody's(Bluntasaur's) character responses.))
IC:
In response to Rina's request, Melody transformed it into a wager for the duel. For Rina to get things her way, she'd have to win the duel; otherwise, Rina would have to accompany Melody for afternoon tea.
"?? Okay.... Deal. ...??" Accepting the wager, Rina, at first, cocked her head in confusion, as that result was essentially the same both ways, at a glance. "Isn't that the same thing...??" But then, after drawing her opening hand, "!!!" it dawned on her, just as Melody began her turn.
"Wait! Does that mean I have to dress up?? What if I don't? Will everyone there be mad? Am I gonna look like a fish out of water to them?" Rina's imagination went wild as she envisioned herself, in casual out-going clothes, being taken to a mansion in a limo with the driver sneering at her out of the corner of his eye. Then arriving at the mansion doors, past a gate, she'd be met with 20 butlers and maids lining the walls with the doors being the only way beyond them. They see her and sneer or turn up their noses at her, the maids even gossiping about her as she approached the building. Embarrassment would begin to set in for the redhead. Even inside, more staff looked utterly disgusted with her because she didn't dress the part. And as Rina and the sophisticated and elegant-looking lady, Melody, partook in the afternoon tea, Rina felt the stares and gazes of loathing and revulsion behind her. A downpour of sweat covered her sunken face and dribbled into her tea as her irises paled and grew distorted from the shame and embarrassment that she felt in that moment.
A moment in her own head.
"---!" The scare of that moment shocked the girl back into the here and now. With a delayed sigh to calm herself, she thought "I don't have any good clothes like that - I don't even have the money for it; no way I would...!" She gazed forward at the field Melody was procuring for herself, activating Madolche Hootcake's effect, bringing out Messengelato. ".... I don't want to go through that and be an embarrassment, so I've gotta win this...! I'll hang out with Melody on my terms...!"
As the summons continued, Rina's focus tightened. She quickly glanced at her hand to assess things, as she had yet to do so. Her hand was filled with spells and trap - 'support cards' as she liked to call them. "Not the greatest hand, but I can still totally work with this." Then her eyes focused on a certain spell card with four beings on it. "Hopefully, I'll get to bring you out, this time."
By the end of Ms. Tomozawa's turn, she had a teacher and a nun waiting for Rina in the Madolche Chateau with the Salon open. Rina mentally transposed herself into this imaginary world, and even those of the Maldolche home turned their noses up at her commoner attire. Sistart stepped forward, as if to signal for Ms. Kasakura to leave at once. The imaginary Rina stepped back, but otherwise held her ground, her resolve kicking in.
Back in the real world, Rina responded to Melody's challenge with a simple "Alright, then!"
"My turn; I draw!"
Looking at the newly drawn card, she added it to her hand and took hold of another.
Rina then slapped said card onto the playing board, triggering the board's circuitry to light up. "I activate the spell card 'Foolish Burial Goods!'" appearing as a hologram on the field. "This lets me send a support card from my deck straight to the graveyard."
"Forgive me for interrupting, but before you do anything else, I'd like to activate Glassouffle's special ability," said Melody as she snapped her fingers. "By detaching one Overlay Unit and targeting one Madolche monster on the field, that Madolche monster is now immune to all monster effects until the end of this turn!"
Glassouffle held up her pointer stick, and absorbed one of her Overlay Units into it.
"And I choose Madolche Fresh Sistart! Go! Madolche Under Glass!" shouted Melody as Glassouffle pointed her pointer stick at Sistart, creating an invisible glass barrier around her.
With Glassouffle's effect resolved, Rina picked up her deck and looked through it to find the card she was looking for. "Monster effects are out. Alright, then." "And the card I choose to send to the graveyard... is Blaze Accelerator Reload!" Pulling it out of the deck, she showed it to Melody before placing it in the graveyard pile. When she did, the circuits lit up and a hologram of that card appeared above the field before sinking into it, fading away. Rina shuffled her deck thoroughly before placing it back down... temporarily.
She then grabbed the Blaze Accelerator card and moved it to another zone. "Next, I'll banish my Accelerator to activate its effect!" Reclaiming her deck, she selected a card and put it into view. "Sending Volcanic Shell to the graveyard!" But she wasn't done just yet.
"And with it there, I can pay 500 of my Life Points to add a copy of it to my hand," doing so, before long.
[[RINA LP: 8000 ---> 7500]]
"Alright, let's see if we can get this party started. I just have to hold out for the next turn. She's got no cards in hand, right now, so it shouldn't get too crazy if I don't do anything. But I can't commit lightly: if she brings out Tiaramisu, the plan might have to get scrapped.... Gonna have to bluff my way through the turn. ...But I can do this...!"
Rina then proceeded to take 4 cards from her hand and lay them all into her backrow, face-down. "To end off, I'll set 4 supports, face-down. My turn's done...!"
A nearly full backrow is always concerning, but with no monsters on her field, people could also come to the conclusion of them being nothing but bluffs. Rina was walking a fine line, but she had to do it if she wanted an attempt to reap the rewards.
It was now all up to Melody and how she proceeds with her turn.

"My turn now! I draw!"
As Melody drew her card, she noticed a strange-looking socket on the bottom-left corner of the control panel, just below the card reader. It looked very similar to the USB cables used on most Duel Disks.
Interesting, Melody thought to herself. I remember Hershey telling me about those, too. If I make it to the finals, it might be fun to try that thing out. But that'll have to wait until later! For now, I need to focus on the duel!
Melody scanned the field, and noticed that Rina had four face-downs, but no monster on the field.
I could go right in and score some damage with a direct attack, but those four face-downs worry me. Nobody would end their turn without summoning a monster unless they had a damn powerful trap. I could summon Tiaramisu, but she'd only be able to get rid of two of them. And if I get rid of the wrong ones, she could still spring the other two and make this duel very miserable very quickly.
Melody began tapping her cheek with the sole card in her hand.
Looks like my best move is to just go for a direct attack. I can score some damage and, hopefully, force her to use up one of her traps. In that case......!
"I summon Madolche Chouxvalier in attack mode!" shouted Melody as she slapped down her card on the reader. A chevalier in a black outfit with matching hat appeared, wielding a candy cane sword and riding what appeared to be a stuffed plush horse.
"Time for the royal house to begin its assault! Madolche Fresh Sistart! Attack Rina-san's life points directly with Holy Berry Blast!"
Sistart summoned a ball of glowing fruit and hurled it right at Rina's platform, striking the sensor on the front.
Rina's LP = 8000 ----> 5500
"Your turn, Chouxvalier! Do your duty to the kindgom and attack with Candy Cane Crush!"
Chouxvalier fired a swirling red-and-white beam from his sword at the sensor.
Rina's LP + 5500 ------> 3300
"And with that, I end my turn!" Melody decided to leave Glassouffle in defense mode, just in case.
((OOC: UUUUGH! I had a lengthy post and Firefox reset and updated on me when I stepped away for 15 minutes! DX I was stupid for not saving it on Notepad beforehand. Gonna condense it down, now.))
Melody's attacks were dangerous to have allowed through; however, Rina knew that she had to make peace with the damage in order to pull off the move that she wanted to accomplish.
"When you end your turn, I activate Scapegoat, summoning four Sheep Tokens to the field in Defense!" Once the holograms showed the card and brought forth the colorful, fluffy monsters, it was time to truly begin.
"Now, it's my turn! Draw!" Seeing Monster Reborn in hand, she thought to herself "Things are starting to come together...!"
"Appear, circuit of warding!" After a momentary glow on the remaining Extra Monster Zone, a Link Circuit grew into view there.
"Requiring two monsters, I send two of my sheep tokens to create the circuit!" The tokens turned into light and shot into the top and bottom Link Arrows, respectively, turning them red.
"Circuits, combine!" The red arrowheads became white and the portal opened up.
"One of the rank and file guardians who protects what I hold dear...! Come forth and push back the opposition! Link Summon! Link-2: Security Dragon!"
[Link-2] Security Dragon ATK: 1100
"And once again, I'm using Glassouffle's ability!" said Melody as she snapped her fingers again. "I detach her remaining Overlay Unit and target Sistart once again! Just as before, my cute little lady of the cloth is immune to monster effects for the rest of this turn!" Melody winked at Rina. "It's a teacher's job to protect her students, after all!"
An acknowledging grin grew onto Rina's face. "You felt something coming, didn't'cha. Well, you weren't wrong, but I'm not gonna stop...! A Security Dragon doesn't often appear alone, y'know!"
Rina repeated the process, using the remaining two Sheep Tokens to Link Summon a second Security Dragon behind the first one. She activated the leading one's effect to return Madolche Teacher Glassoufle to Melody's Extra Deck.
"You served your purpose well, Glassouffle," said Melody. "Worry not. Sistart and I shall ensure your sacrifice was not in vain!"
And then, it was time to really kick things up a notch. Using the 2 Security Dragons, Rina created a Link-4 circuit of relentless assault. The dragons turned into light and each split into two. With four figures of light, they shot into the top and bottom arrowheads, like before, but also into the bottom-left and bottom-right arrowheads, as well.
"Circuits, combine!" The four red arrowheads became white and a new portal opened.
"When defense isn't enough, appear from the sky and rain down judgment on those who threaten what I hold dear! Link Summon: Link-4! Wreak havoc! Topologic Bomber Dragon!"
[Link-4] Topologic Bomber Dragon ATK: 3000
Melody's eyes grew wide. "Well, now.....that's one impressive monster! I'm looking forward to seeing what it can do!"
"Well y'won't have to wait long. Ready? 'Cause here we go! BATTLE! Topologic Bomber Dragon, attack Madolche Show... Shows...? ...Show-Valle--- the yutz with the horse!"
"Seems like you don't have much of a choice, thanks to Chouxvalier's ability," said Melody. "As long as he's on the field, he's the only monster you can attack."
Launching itself into the air for a better angle, the Cyberse dragon let loose a strong energy blast towards Madolche Chouxvalier, blasting him to atoms and dealing battle damage to Melody's Life Points.
Madolche Chouxvalier ATK: 2200
[[Melody LP: 8000 ---> 7200]]
"Bomber Dragon's effect activates! If it attacks your monster, it deals extra damage equal to the monster's Original Attack Points! Final Decimation!"
The dragon forcefully landed and raised its blaster arm to fire off a widespread laser at the sensor on Melody's platform, inflicting 1700 more damage to Ms. Tomozawa.
[[Melody LP: 7200 ---> 5500]]
Melody trembled a bit as the dragon blasted her, but then gave a sly smile.
"Impressive. Your dragon's ability cost me quite a few life points there. But unfortunately, it's about to cost you a lot more."
Melody's expression suddenly turned serious. "Chouxvalier's ability activates! When he's destroyed and sent to the graveyard, he's automatically shuffled back into my deck! At least, that's how it would normally work. But since my field spell Madolche Chateau is in play, I can send him back to my hand instead!"
Melody gestured to the field below. "And that's not all! Since a Madolche monster went from the graveyard back to my hand, my permanent spell card Madolche Salon activates! Now I'm allowed to search my deck for any spell or trap with 'Madolche' in its name, and set it face-down on my field!"
Melody grabbed a copy of Madolche Ticket from her deck, set it face-down, then shuffled her deck.
"No way I could've avoided that, anyway. Alright, my turn's done; go ahead!"
Ace Monster: "Blaze Fenix, the Burning Bombardment Bird;" "Volcanic Doomfire"

"My turn now! I draw!"
Melody drew her card, stared at it, and smiled.
"Well done, Rina-san. You've managed to survive my onslaught and summon an extremely powerful monster. But now it's time for the Madolche royal family to slay your dragon and win me this duel!"
Rina looked on cautiously to see what Melody was about to pull off.
"First, I'll activate the card I set face-down last turn! The permanent spell card, Madolche Ticket!"
"Next, I summon Madolche Magileine!"
A cute purple-haired witch appeared, riding a fork with a dollop of whip cream on one end.
"Now, Magileine's ability activates! When she's normal summoned, I'm allowed to search my deck for any Madolche monster, and add it to my hand! And I choose Madolche Mewfeuille!"
Melody pulled Mewfeuille from her deck, and re-shuffled.
"Next, I'm invoking the effect of my permanent spell card, Madolche Salon! Due to its effect, I'm allowed to Normal Summon another Madolche monster this turn! So come on back, Madolche Chouxvalier!"
Chouxvalier appeared next to Magileine.
"Now then, Rina-san. You showed off the power of Link Summoning to bring forth your ace monster. Now allow me to show off the power of Xyz Summoning to bring forth mine!"
Rina's eyes blinked wide - for two reasons, one of which was fairly obvious. Confusion, realization, concern, and devilish curiosity were all rolled into one upon her face. "That doesn't sound good...!"
"I Overlay my Level Four Madolche Magileine and my Level Four Madolche Chouxvalier!"
The two monsters turned into streams of light as the swirling vortex appeared on the field.
"With these two monsters, I construct the Overlay Network!"
The two streams of light flew into the vortex, and a second later, a pillar of light exploded from it.
"Beautiful and courageous ruler of the kingdom of sweets, descend now in all your grace and elegance! Xyz Summon! Come forth, Rank 4! Madolche Queen Tiaramisu!"
A beautiful silver-haired queen appeared, wearing a brown dress and carrying a sceptre. She stood behind and to the left of the Fresh Sistart, who, now with an audience in the vicinity, intended to protect the Madolche property with all the power that she had.
Rina was fully aware that Sistart would protect the spells and traps while linked to Tiaramisu, but she was aware of something else, as well.
"There it iiis!" Rina dramatically raised her hand and pointed at her dragon. "Seems like you've triggered my bomber dragon's effect! Because you Special Summoned a monster to a linked zone, it destroys every monster in our Main Monster Zones - and right now, it looks like it's just your Madolche queen who's gonna meet their end!"
"Yes! I was worried she'd summon in a safe zone, but I guess my luck's still with me! Let's go!" A very brief sigh of relief escaped the redhead's lips. "Go! Full Overlap!"
"I'm afraid I can't let you dethrone Her Majesty when she's only just arrived!" Melody flipped over one of her face-down cards. "I activate the trap card Madolche Promenade!"
A torrent of sweets shot out of the hologram of Melody's trap card and slammed right into Topologic Bomber Dragon, causing it to stagger.
"Ah---!! No!" Rina looked on in shock, her bomber dragon devastated by a bombardment against itself!
"When this trap is activated, I'm allowed to negate the effect of any card on your field until the end of the turn! But in exchange, I have to take a Madolche monster either on the field or in my graveyard, and add it to my hand! And I choose the Messengelato in my graveyard!"
Melody plucked Messengelato from her graveyard.
"And of course, since a Madolche monster went from my graveyard to my hand, that activates both of my permanent spell cards! First, I'll use the effect of Madolche Salon, and set another Madolche Promenade face down on my field! And now comes the effect of Madolche Ticket! It activates the same way as Madolche Salon, but this spell lets me search my deck for any Madolche monster and add it to my hand! And I choose Madolche Petingcessoueur!"
Melody pulled her card and re-shuffled.
"Also, Madolche Ticket has a secondary effect! If it activates while I have a fairy-type Madolche on the field...like, for instance, Tiaramisu here.....then I'm allowed to special summon the monster I just pulled! So come on back, my cute little imouto!"
Madolche Petingcessoueur appeared, smiling and waving.
"And you already know her other ability. So this time, she'll use it to call out her big sister, Madolche Puddingcess!"
A princess with long blonde curly hair appeared, wearing a dress that looked like a pudding mold. She twirled around once and curtsied. Summoned to Sistart's other linked zone, Rina clenched her teeth nervously. She didn't like where this was headed.
"Darn it! And with my bomber dragon negated, I can't stop this...!"
"Just like before, due to Petingcessoueur's effect, Puddingcess' level goes down by 1. Which in this case, is exactly what I want. But now that the entire royal family is assembled, it's time for Tiaramisu's special ability! I detach one Overlay Unit, then I take up to two Madolche cards in my graveyard and shuffle them back into my deck! But since my field spell Madolche Chateau is in play, I can choose to return them to my hand instead!"
As Tiaramisu held up her sceptre and absorbed an Overlay Unit into it, Melody did just that with the Magileine and Petingcessoueur in her graveyard.
"And now, I'm allowed to choose the same number of cards on your field and shuffle them back into YOUR deck! And I'll do just that with your Topologic Bomber Dragon, and that face-down card over there!"
Both the dragon and one of the three face-down cards were covered in sugary sparkles, then suddenly vanished in a puff of pink smoke.
"Aaawgh~!" Rina flung her head to the side and whined lightheartedly at the loss of her big monster; the centerpiece of her victory for this duel.
"And don't think I'm finished yet! Because now, I'm performing a special Xyz Summon by Overlaying Tiaramisu!"
"---Huh!?"
Tiaramisu became a stream of light, and was sucked into the portal that appeared.
"Heir to the throne of the kingdom of sweets, let your royal elegance shine forth! Xyz Summon! Come forth, Rank 5! Madolche Puddingcess Chocolat A-La-Mode!"
Another Puddingcess appeared, except this one was wearing a black dress with a matching tiara.
"That's not all! Because now, I'm Overlaying Petingcessoueur and Puddingcess to bring back Her Majesty!"
Second verse, same as the first, as the two pudding sisters were Overlayed, and Tiaramisu appeared once more.
"And once again, I'll use Tiaramisu's effect! This time, I'll send Hootcake and Madolche Promenade back into my deck, and in turn, get rid of those last two face-downs on your field!"
"NO~!" Just as before, the sugary sparkles happened, and the two face-downs vanished in pink smoke. "Uhaaaugh..., my support~...!"
"Now that your field is empty, it's time for the Madolche Royal Family to end this duel! Sistart! Tiaramisu! Puddingcess! Attack Rina-san directly and WIPE OUT HER LIFE POINTS!"
Rina found herself being pelted with all manner of cakes, chocolates, and other sugary sweet baked goods. And though they were holograms, they nonetheless seemed real to Rina as they headed for her face as well. She gritted her teeth and tried to protect herself from the flurry of food, but she could not protect her life points from plummeting to the ground.
Rina's LP: 3300 ------> 0
WINNER: Melody
"Gokigenyo," smiled Melody as she and her three Madolche monsters curtsied to Rina.
"UuuUUUgh, nOOO...!" Rina's head had flung back in disappointment. Her Life Points dropped to zero, and it felt like something sank to the pit of the girl's stomach. After a moment to sigh to herself, she faced Melody who, along with her monsters, curtsied before her - an amusing sight that put a lopsided grin of mixed emotions on her face; it was also one that couldn't wash away the fact that Rina would now have to dress up for afternoon tea with Ms. Tomozawa. With no fancy clothes of the sort, Rina internally worried about it. But the tournament needed to continue, so she didn't have the time to stand there and dwell on it for too long.
Maintaining her grin, the taller girl responded to Melody with an "Mm," as she nodded. "Thanks for the match. ...So..., looks like I've got a tea date to get ready for, huh.... I guess we should exchange numbers to keep in contact?" Rina looked to the ground below, off to the side of the first few rows of spectators, and added "We can do it over there, I guess. I'll meet you down there."
Rina descended down to the ground to await Melody and take care of any unfinished business between them.
-----------
In the meantime, Kai Hidata announced the next match that would begin shortly: Yuwen Schiltz vs Lex Adams.
The two young men approached from the crowd to the historic arena and prepared their decks for battle.
Once given the go-ahead, the duel would commence.

Melody hopped off of the platform as it reached ground level, and headed over to where Rina was waiting.
"Sorry if I got a little carried away with that last attack," said Melody. "I sometimes have a tendency to go a little overboard. Anyway, let's get to exchanging contact info."
Melody took out her phone. "Actually, before that, I need to text Penelope. Don't worry, this will only take a second."
Melody fired up the text app and sent this text to Penelope.
Sorry to bother you while you're enjoying the party, but could you do me a HUGE favor and fetch my Duel Disk? I left it back in my dorm room.
Once that was done, Melody pulled up her Contacts and hit the Exchange button. She then held up her phone in front of her.
"Okay, go ahead and send me your phone number. Oh, and you might want to give me your Chat ID while you're at it."
Melody had a feeling that Rina wasn't really looking forward to tea, but she didn't mind. She'd just have to try that much harder to make her feel welcome.

Penelope had only ever seen her employer duel once before, and it was while she was at the receiving end of a baked good barrage. Even when Melody dueled the boy who had defeated her, Penelope was still distracted by the cards he used. Now Rina and Melody had her undivided attention and the match was under way.
It wasn't the most exciting of duels. The girl named Rina took damage, then just kept taking damage until the second to last turn where she got one good shot in. And then just like that it was over.
"Amusing." Penelope gave faint half smile as she clapped softly at the conclusion of the duel. She was about to rejoin her employer when a buzz at her pocket alerted her of something.
She glanced at the phone, her half smile fainted.
"Yes ma'am. Right away."
Penelope took a sigh and exited the building, on her way to her employer's dorm to retrieve her duel disk.
