Once the ogre had turn its attention back to Rina, she reduced her casting frequency significantly to see if IT would happen. Her initial flurry was simply the girl having learned the timing interval between casts from her prior uses and maximizing it as well as she could; now, her reduced shots were at approximately half the speed of her barrage from after getting hit, earlier.
The ignited, berserking boss aimed its swing towards the mage, who, keeping her distance, was able to run and avoid the predictable attack as the beast took damage over time - which Rina only understood was occurring when she saw the damage appear, highlighted fiery red. "! Oh! Coo---A---!!!" Not expecting the follow-up side swiping attack from the creature, Rina was, again, hit very hard! "Ouuu...!" This time, dropping her health from 100% to about 60%, thanks to both her lowered DEF and the ogre boss's boosted ATK from its enraged state.
After that hit, "Rrrunning, running, running~!" Rina got up and made a mad dash as far from their opponent as possible! She then explained to her gaming partner ".... I was trying to see if I could get the boss to keep spinning around from the changing aggro; ...looks like that didn't work out." Naturally, her aggro was being overturned in the meantime. After a moment of chasing her and missing with a leaping club attack, the elite ogre twisted itself around towards the rogue again. It initiated a repeat of its last two attacks: the double club and leaping strikes. Following those, it grabbed the boulder it was behind earlier and chucked it at Doku before returning to its normal, non-enraged state, ignite damage dealing its last bit of damage in 3 seconds before wearing off.
While that was occurring, mage Rina fired a firiz every five seconds, realizing "My MP's low; Snail Mode."
Doku took a few deep and steady breaths. Well. His character did. Doku was way to focused on what was at hand! His fingers darted from button to button! Trigger to trigger! He definitely had amazing hand-eye coordination! If Rina looked to her left, she could see Doku, eyes glued to the screen as he did his best to menu to his attacks as quickly as he could. Despite Doku MASHING the attack button, his character didn't attack any quicker! He knew this, but it made him feel like he was doing something!
Doku watched as the boulder came hurtling towards his character! He tried to dodge! But the rolls didn't end in his favor. The boulder smashed against his character doing about 30% of his health! He rolled his eyes, but kept his assault going. He rushed towards the Orc. Going for a critical hit once again! He crossed his fingers as he watched the attack! Another crit!
The Ogre roared once again. This time it went on a rampage! Going for a fury of slashes! It's desperation move! It wildy and aimlessly flung it's club around! It struck Doku's character, sending him bolting against a wall! Critcal Hit! Doku's health hit 0.
"FUCK!" He said rather loudly. Quicky turning red, embarrassed at what he did. He dropped his controller. he looked towards Rina. "Oh no... You gotta solo the boss! But he should be close to dying!" Doku spoke fast, clearly excited the boss was close, but also worried. He was putting all hope in Rina! "Charge up a big spell or something!"

"A---. !?" Rina dramatically, timidly glanced over as Doku put down his controller. "Oh no~! Dokuuu!!" she faux-cried, transitioning to a laugh.
And without much delay, "...."
"---! ...Ah'p." the boss slowly turned around to face the only threat remaining in his cave. "Ooo'hoo'hoo'hoo boy...! Here 'e COMES~...!" Doku's post-death advice was heard as she frantically tried to avoid the ogre's rampaging attacks that transitioned to and from his enraged-status attacks, but she retracted her neck a bit as the smiled - and cringed. "H'Yeah! Lemme charge an Absolute Powerforce, real quick! .... Doku, I'm gonna die~...!" smiling at the scenario presented to her. "Meat-shield me! Meat-shield me!" jokingly, both nervous and amused by the downed rogue's withdrawal from battle.
Rina changed nothing about her tactic for the time being. Trying to keep herself distant with spaced out fireball blasts should work over time, she figured in theory. It was slow, but probably the safest way to get the job done. There was no chance of an up-close battle with the redhead; no way she'd risk that now that her partner was a rag doll against the cave wall. Nope, Rina had no plans to fight outside the box with this one.
However, going a bit faster would hopefully get the fighting over with in their favor, faster - assuming that the boss really is almost dead. Now that it's just her, the thought of not wanting to leave Doku waiting too long for victory entered her mind. She'd have to keep an eye on her MP if she wanted to speed things up. Going slower allowed her energy a chance to build up a bit, so she'd just have to make sure that she doesn't drop it too low to cause hiccups in her actions.
As the creature rampaged on, the mage fired a bit faster than before, and as accurately as she could, having to stop and take moments to dodge and run from attacks. At one point, when she thought she was clear to start attacking again, the ogre lunged at the girl, catching her by surprise! She messed up the pattern in her mind. Her health dropped from 60% to 25%.
"Whoa~ bad...!" "ROOOAR!" Running~! "Get OUTta thERE!" Getting away to a safe distance again was the top priority, and the boss wasn't making it easy. But she couldn't afford to take another hit, more so than most. So with every fibre of her being, she ran and ran until there was a moment where the beast calmed down for a few seconds. Her adrenaline was pumping. Once she felt far enough away, practically against the furthest wall - which, in this case, was a boss zone barrier preventing her from leaving..., "I'm so gonna die, aren't I...?" she smirked as she started spamming her firiz until the monster made any meaningful twitches, at which point, she'd stop and run - or ready herself to do just that. "I'm too young to die! MeAT ShIElD!" After one such threat to her existence, she waited a second to eye her opponent's moves before starting up her firiz barrage again, not wanting to be caught off-guard one final time. Unfortunately, as her first firiz launched, the ogre shifted and launched itself into the air towards Rina just as her fireball hit its feet. "Gyuh---!"
It came down as the screen faded to black and smashed the girl with its club off-screen! A non-violent way to show your character's death, huh.
With her controller in hand, she reeled back in disappointment, hearing the club connect. "Gy'augh~--- wait.... ...? Did---...?" She re-examined the scenario in her mind just as a cutscene played with the elite ogre collapsing to the ground. "...I got 'im??"
Doku sunk into his seat, watching Rina closely. He was clenching every muscle in his body!!! Doku was praying... hard! Doku watched Rina as she tried to distance her self from the boss! He was pretty nervous about how the fight was gonna play out. Doku couldn't sat still, rocking and tapping his toes looking towards Rina then... Rina... well the character.
That big hit by the ogre caused Doku's heart to sink... that was some serious damage. Truth be told, Doku and Rina didn't know the penalty for dying as they hadn't died yet! What would happen! Would they respawn in town? reload their last save? Lose money? would their save get deleted?
OH GOD. THEY DIDN'T SAVE YET!
Doku's eyes widened at the realization! A death here could ruin the session!
Doku crossed his finger. "Don't die... Don't die!" He shivered, looking directly at the screen! "DON'T DIE!" The boy watched the screen fade to black. They lost... he sighed."Damnit..." However. They watched as the Ogre fell with a loud roar. Once the scene ended, Doku's character was back, and Rina and Doku's ears were met with the amazing, victory flair. You know the one. Followed by two level up dings! Two whole levels from that!
Oh! A chest unlocked as well! Two to be exact. Doku quickly opened it. "Holy shit... I can't believe that happened..." He panted softly. Inside his chest was... what a crual joke. Better robes. "Are you... joking, they give me the item with better defense... after THAT..." He grumbled and put it on his character.
"You're... insane." Doku was still blown away by that fight. His heart was beating and he quickly sipped his soda.

Granted confirmation of the narrowest boss battle victory of her life, Rina exhaled, afforded the opportunity to relax. Once the cutscene ended and the victory fanfare played, Rina, too, noticed that their levels went up a whole two points. She learned two support skills 'Endran,' which steals a single enemy's MP energy for her own use, and 'Deneech,' which lowers the defense of a single enemy.
"Ooo, energy drain; nice." Then, seeing what Deneech does, "And we can lower enemy defense, now. ...I'd like to raise my own, game, but okay, I'll give it a whirl."
Rina followed after Doku once the two chests were unlocked. Rina opened and peered into the second chest as Doku went into the first. Just like him, Rina obtained better robes: 'Wayfarer's Clothes.' Doku voiced his gripe. "I know, right? ...Though I wonder how much of a difference it'd make just for these few extra points in DEF. I'd bet we'd still get a beatdown - and you'd still get wiped out." ...Grinsville. While she agreed with Doku on wishing she had this sooner, she was just glad to have her DEF stat raised at each opportunity: the level-ups and the gear. From this moment forward, the redhead would pay extra special attention to her DEF stat any time there was a chance to raise it.
"H'Insane? Dunno 'bout that one, chief." She stretched, with controller in hand. "That... was luck, right there. If that last shot missed, I 100% would've died," she said as she reached for more grapes. A moment away from popping one in her mouth, she added, "No doubt in my mind about that one; that would've been it and we'd...---" a realization occurred. "Yeah, we'd have to start over, right? ...There weren't any checkpoints, were there? I didn't notice any."
Doku took note of the spells Rina learned, it could totally come into play! Rina could drop the enemy defense, which would let Doku's backstab do even more damage~ Oh the Synergy! Doku was liking the flow he and Rina had going. They were learning new abilities that complimented each other nicely.
Doku nodded, putting on the new robe. "Well, I doubt we'll ever know..." Hopefully, they didn't have to fight that orc ever again... he shivered a little at the though. The purple haired teen would look at Rina, then back at the screen. Maybe they did need to grind a little bit, after THAT boss, Doku was considering it.
"Shh! Take the compliment!" He would let out a soft smile, hearing that Rina said they would of had to start over. Doku quickly mashed the start button, going to the save menu, saving their progress. TWICE.
"I uh... might of forgot to save... Well! I think we're gonna move on..." He quickly tried to keep on with the game!
Using a special item that returned Rina and Doku to the entrance of the dungeon. They were ready to adventure out yet again!
Skipping ahead about an hour, they had gained a few levels! Doku was being over confident. "Rina! Look at the volcano over here!" Doku's character ran into the area. It was covered in rocks and magma, along with rock creatures. If Rina were to check her map, the area would be covered in red with big letters reading "NOT RECOMENDED AT THIS LEVEL". The recommended level was only... 96... well! What levels were Doku and Rina? Oh... 4..
It was apparent they weren't suppose to be here just yet. Though... Doku's interest was peaked.

When Doku saved the game twice in a row, Rina couldn't help but laugh a little. "No fear! Let's go!"
Having collected the missing ring off of the elite ogre - what they needed for the quest - and gained new gear, they used their special item to return to the beginning of the cave. After seeing the old lady and handing over the ring, they were graciously rewarded with a small sum of gold currency and a fruit for each of them that cures poison. Bidding the elderly women farewell, Doku and Rina had a few cutscenes that informed them of where to go. However, out of habit, they curiously explored the map, turning over many a leaf and treasure chest to find various interesting and mundane things, alike. Through all of this, fighting some monsters and beasts, an early stop off with a travelling merchant, some more battles to raise their levels more, and some curiosity with something mountainous in the distance, the haphazard duo eventually found themselves at their current point of interest.
Doku had run up ahead a bit before Rina, further curious, told Doku she was going to pull up the world map. Their location was apparently called 'Bewafa's Volcano,' and it was quite the ways away from their original path. Rina noticed the red words while hovered over the volcano area: "'Not recommended at this level'...." "Huh..." she said aloud. Rina's eyes narrowed a bit as she then began to wonder what the recommended level actually is. Selecting the volcano area would bring up a detailed info screen with flavor text for the area, the enemies they defeated here - which are none, so far - and the recommended level for traversing the area.
"F'wha---! N-Ninety-si---! Level 96!?" She quickly and nervously laughed, closing the map and turning to her gaming partner. "H'Um~, Doku~? ...So... 'No fear, let's go...' but...:" grinning all the while. After clearing the Goblin Cave at Level 4 and gaining 4 more levels, since, respectively.... Rina added, sounding and looking a little like a nervous robot as she twitched her eyebrows upward and waved her arms childishly, "Danger! 'Save' time! Danger! 'Save' time~!" as Player 2 didn't have access to the save option.

Their quest was completed! Things were going smoothly! A good two hours of solid progress! Doku had gotten a cool new dagger! It was super effective against plant creatures! No way that would be usefull in a volcano... But hey, Doku liked it. Doku had gotten a new skill called 'Treasure Sense'. It alerted the party when a treasure chest was near! Super handy for those huge dungeons that had so many twists and turns. Acording to his sense, there was a chest only about 15 feet away!
Doku would look towards Rina. "The loot here has to be crazy good!" After Doku walked through the ravine at the base of the volcano, he turned a corner and there it was... a sword sealed tightly in volcanic stone. The sword itself appeared to be made of magma rocks? It had some magma dripping out of it. No way that would work in the real world, I mean you couldn't even hold it... but hey, Video game logic! Doku would rush towards the sword. However... he made such a foolish mistake!
A creature busted from a nearby rock! It was a golem! A lava golem! With a quick throw, it threw a molten rock at Doku instantly killing his character. It would quickly throw another rock at Rina, she would likely have the same fate!
Doku was crushed, thankfully... the auto save was generous. They put back only about 30 minutes before the... volcano incident. They lost one level from the reset. Doku sighed. "Rina... don't let me do that again... We can come back later.. better yet, let's never go back there..." He went quite, sinking into his chair.

They ded'd. Rina had a revival item, but as she cautiously got close to Doku's downed body, unable to leave the area of battle, the lava golem took her down, too, definitely taking more damage than the rogue - not that it would have mattered against a Level 96 opponent at this stage of their journeys. "Geheh...." a bead of sweat and a toothy grin... as her character collapsed in a heap and the duo was greeted with what amounted to a 'Game Over' message.
Afterward, they resumed from the last autosave checkpoint - thankfully.
Doku sighed and voiced his disappointment, nonetheless. Rina wasn't quite so disheartened, since it appeared that they hadn't lost too much, seeing the volcano area in the distance. "We'll be back there," she said contrarily, wanting to explore it when they're ready for it. "Buck up, bucko; there there...." She leaned over and patted his shoulder. "We at least gained a new skill: 'Future Sense: Blahblah Volcano.' It lets us know that it's a dangerous place we should avoid. I think that's pretty neat, actually," she somewhat joked.
They were only 1 Level shy of what they had before dying, however, upon checking to verify, Rina realized that they had reverted back to the point before she had obtained a 'Silk Robe' armor item that she had gained with the help of Doku's Treasure Sense ability. They had found it along the way towards the volcano, still within a relatively safe Level area - at least by comparison to Bewafa's Volcano.
"Oh'p. .... I don't have my Silk Robe anymore," she stated plainly as she continued to check for anything that's different - aside from the obvious Gold that they had accrued. "...Are you missing anything, or are you good?" she asked Doku, unable to remember what he gained beyond this point - if anything. (--IF-- the Treasure Sense ability was learned at Level 8, and not earlier, THAT would be something she'd definitely remember at the very least.)
Ace Monster: "Blaze Fenix, the Burning Bombardment Bird;" "Volcanic Doomfire"
Doku simply looked at Rina laughing a little as she patted him. "Well, that's true! We know that sick ass sword is there! We know where to find it next time!" Doku would say triumphantly. Hearing that Rina lost her Silk Robe quickly caused Doku to check his inventory. Scrolling through the list. His 'Silver Dagger' was gone, which they had gotten in the same small cave tucked to the side on their way to the volcano.
"Treasure Sense is really nice. Though it might be best to look where I'm going before I rush in." He chuckled. "We can go back to the that small outcove and get your Robes back."
With that, Doku would start returning to the area right on the outskirts of the volcano. "if I were playing alone, I'd throw myself at the sword over and over, dodging the golem, getting the sword and leaving. But... we can work our way up." He would chuckle.
Usally in games he'd try to find some high level items early. Sneaking was... difficult when you had an ally. Doku heard his phone buzz, quickly slidding it out and sending a text. "Sorry, my sister's texting me." He placed his controler down letting Rina lead the way while he made his character follow.
"She's got an appointment tomorrow so she's letting me know what time to pick her up." He spoke out, Rina likely had no idea what he was talking about, Doku had completely forgot he never told Rina about his sister. To be fair, she had never came up in conversation before and he hardly every told anyone about it.
