Was it really that weird for a friend to give her things? "Well---...N-no, but---" Before she could finish, Doku insisted that she didn't owe him. At that point, any excuse likely wasn't going to change his mind on the subject. The redhead sighed and gave in, ".... Okay.... ...Thank you~...," she said with a bit of strain in her voice, not fully willing, as she was essentially dropping the notion of reimbursement.
After Doku brought up dueling, a thought in Rina's head decided to re-skin the notion as an earned reward. She requested a duel with him, allowing him 5 rare cards from her collection if he were to win.
The purple-haired youth saw right through her and shot it down, immediately.
Coming up with an alternative, the adamant young man brought about new stakes to the duel: the loser paying for the food next time they hang out; Rina hesitated so she could actually think about it, but she didn't want to come across as a wuss for thinking about the punishment too long; she held back her unchecked concerns, figuring things might work themselves out..., but the look of hesitation remained on her face.
"Next time we hang out, huh? .... Alright." She accepted the challenge. "Let's do that." She pulled out all of the cards from her deck box and went to another table away from Doku. "Since we're both in the spirit of giving, when I win, I'll give Mr. Working Man a big bill for his wallet." She sat down and began to look her cards over. "When that day comes, you'll wish you just took the five cards, ...Broke-u."
Ace Monster: "Blaze Fenix, the Burning Bombardment Bird;" "Volcanic Doomfire"
The purple-haired boy would find himself pausing and listening to Rina give in, he was laughing a little bit, it was good to know Rina was on board with him giving her a gift, it really wasn't that big of a deal, at least not in his head. It was just a gift, nothing more.
Doku wasn't exactly one to turn down a duel, so he would sit across from Rina and chuckle, shuffling his deck a couple of times. "Broke-u huh? Well after I win. We can go someplace expensive~" That was a jest, no way Doku was gonna make Rina pay for something expensive like that!
Finally, he pointed directly at Rina. "Ladies first of course!" After that, Doku would draw his starting hand, shuffling it in his hand a couple of times as he thought about his plays. He was hoping Rina would take her first turn, honestly, Doku didn't even know WHAT deck the girl played...

Rina was still fixing up her deck when Doku came over to her table and sat across from her. Once Rina was finished making a few more small adjustments for the tabletop duel, she set aside the few excess cards far aside to not be confused with anything on her field of play. Arranging said field and being offered the first turn of the duel, Rina obliged as she shuffled her deck loosely between her hands. "Don't mind if I do!" Never one to turn down a first turn.
Her main deck was set and positioned; her Extra Deck fared the same. When the time came, she drew her handful of cards to begin her turn. Looking at her hand, it was full of support cards and no monsters; more notably, no Dyna Base. "Yup. I should've expected that; no way I'd be lucky enough to get the one Dyna Base in my opening hand...." Eyeing her cards, she mentally shrugged it off, for now. "Oh well. Not like what I've got's bad or anything; I can totally make do...!"
RINA: 8000 LP DOKU: 8000 LP
Rina pulled two cards from her hand and slid them onto the table, face-down, soon spacing them out with a card-sized gap between them. "I'll start simple by setting two lil' ol' support cards face-down. We'll see how things go from there. ...Your move." Ending her turn, she held her hand of cards close to her chin, ensuring their information was obscured from view. "A good defense can lead to a safe offense," she thought to herself. "Let's see if we can make that a reality."
Ace Monster: "Blaze Fenix, the Burning Bombardment Bird;" "Volcanic Doomfire"
Doku wasn't going to be all theatrical like he usually was when he dueled, something Rina would notice Doku's deck was a bit messy, it wasn't perfectly stacked or anything, probably he was a bit of a slob. Anyway, he looked at his hand before looking at Rina's opening move! Set two and pass?
With that Doku would rip the top card of her deck! He would soon set one of the cards directly in the middle. "All right~ Waking The Dragons. If Rina decides to go on offense and destroy it I'll get a kickass boss~" He thought to himself. "Alright Rina~ Let's get going!" he'd placed Abyss Actor Mellow Madonna in the far left and the new Liberty Dramatist in his right zone. "Scale 0 Madonna and Scale 8 Liberty Dramatist!" Alright! Doku was starting off with great scales~
Soon Doku would press his finger on Madonna. "By paying 1000 LP I can add an Abyss Actor to my hand!" After searching his deck (slowly) he would reveal Abyss Actor Wild Hope he just added to his hand before shuffling his deck. "Now! I pendulum summon!" Soon Doku slapped down two of his monsters in his hand. "Wild Hope! Shoot your way to the top! And the star of this play! Abyss Actor Superstar!" Oh no... his theatrics were getting out of hand.
It seemed he even brought in a little crowd, a girl and a boy who were card shopping gaze would turn to Doku and Rina. This could either be great or embarrassing. "I'll use both of my monster effects! My Wild Hope will gain 200 attack points and I'll set an abyss script from my deck! I'll set Abyss Script Rise Of The Abyss King!"
"Now! The Climax of the act! Wild Hope! Show Rina the type of sharpshooter you are!" As he attacked he would once again tap the new card, Liberty Dramatist. "I can discard a card to give you this card~" Though Doku's battle phase was stopped, by Rina's trap and trap monster! "Oh! What do those do?" He leaned over the table to look.
Regardless of how Rina explained it, the interaction ended with Rina having a big defensive monster and his Superstar returned to his hand. Though Rina would receive Doku's Dramatist! "Since I gave you Dramatist! I get to show 3 random scripts from my deck and set one! But It'll be destroyed during the end phase!"
Doku would set the Fire Dragon's Lair from his deck. "But I still get to attack my dramatist!" He attacked dealing 300 damage to Rina's lp. Putting the Dramatist face up in the extra deck. "And now I end my turn! Let's see what you can do to spice up the show Rina~" As he ended his turn he was forced to send two of his set cards. "Since Dramatist set Fire Dragon's Lair... I get to use its effect! I can look at your extra deck and banish 1 of the cards!"

When Wild Hope attacked and Dramatist's effect was activated, Rina activated both of her face-down trap cards: 'Compulsory Evacuation Device' and 'Stronghold the Moving Fortress.'
"When I activate Stronghold, it summons itself to be my wall against your attack, and with its 2000 DEF, you better believe I'm dashing your wild hope of getting a direct attack in." The redhead then tapped her other trap card. "And this is where 'Compulse' comes in. Your Superstar's ATK beats out my fortress's defense points, so instead of letting that attack happen, I'll support my monster by having this trap return that Abyss Actor to your hand for now."
And with no response to that, Rina managed to get by without a scratch - or so it seemed at first. She now had Doku's 'Abyss Actor - Liberty Dramatist' on her side of the field through it's Pendulum effect. When that happened, Doku explained the activated effect that it gained under her control. And because of the change in count of monsters on her field, Wild Hope was granted a replay. In the moment, Rina didn't realize her folly, but the ensuing attack left its mark that she hopefully wouldn't soon forget.
RINA: 8000 LP >>> 7700 LP
And with the end of Doku's turn, he informed Rina of the unwitting drawback gained from the effect of the Dramatist that was under her control. Because Dramatist destroys the card that it searched and set on Doku's field, Doku gains the added effect of 'Abyss Script - Fire Dragon's Lair,' allowing him to see Rina's Extra Deck, in its entirely, and banish a card from it.
"Ggh...." she cringed, but followed through with the effect, hesitantly moving her pile of cards within reach for Doku to examine them. and pick one. "B-Be gentle, okay...?" she joked. She then heard more voices around her than what she expected, which was zero. "??" Rina glanced back and surely saw a bit of a crowd behind her. There were three people in the shop, now, not including them and the cashier: the boy and girl who came in a little earlier, and one other guy who was waiting for the cashier to get something for him, looking over in their direction in the meantime. She didn't look back long, simply taking a mental snapshot of the area and turning right back to face Doku. A hint of embarrassment settled over her face for a brief moment as Doku chose which card from her Extra Deck to banish.
-------------------------------
Doku made his choice, but... "My destroyer of worlds!??" she nicknamed it. "Whyyy'uh!? Dokuuu!" She would be shaking him in whiny-child fashion if he wasn't across the table from her.
-------------------------------
After the selected card was banished, it was her turn once more.
RINA: 7700 LP DOKU: 7000 LP
"Draw." Her drawn card was a machine-type monster card. ...It wasn't Dyna Base, though it would definitely be helpful later.
But for right now, the plan was to take out Wild Hope with what she already had. It was time to get the offense side of her duel started.
First, the redhead placed down a Field Spell card. "I'll activate 'Fusion Recycling Plant.' ...Then~, I'll activate its effect, letting me discard 'Blaze Accelerator Reload' to add a 'Polymerization' to my hand." After discarding her card, she laid her hand of cards face-down below her backrow zones in order to go through her Deck and grab a 'Poly.' Adding that card - face-up - to her face-down hand pile, she held on to her deck a moment longer, as she was not finished with it, yet.
Using a free pinky, she pointed to he discarded card. "Next, I'll use Blaze Accelerator Reload's graveyard effect. Banishing it lets me send 'Volcanic Shell' from my deck to the graveyard," which she did - and she still wasn't done with her deck...! "And~ once it's there, I'll pay 500 Life Points to use Shell's effect, adding another one of it to my hand."
RINA: 7200 LP
Polymerization and Volcanic Shell, face-up on her Hand pile, were collected and hidden within the rest after shuffling the deck and putting it back. She re-examined her hand and field before committing to her intended play.
"Now I'll throw out the oldie-but-a-goodie, Polymerization!" placing the card back onto the table. "I'll fuse the Volcanic Shell in my hand with the Moving Fortress on the field." As she moved the materials to the grave, she thought about how to word something so it would fit with the current situation.... It was hard, and she didn't have long to come up with anything really good. "Those two powers combine to add fuel to the flames...! Rise up! Soar above! Burn 'em down! ...Become my flying force of fire and fend off those fiends! Fusion Summon: Level 8! Blaze Fenix, the Burning Bombardment Bird!"
ATK: 2800
The Fusion Monster's card was placed on Rina's center Main Monster Zone. With no card response from her opponent, Rina wasted no time in trying to clear away Doku's monster (ATK: 1600).
"Battle! Blaze Fenix attacks your Wild Hope!"
DOKU: 7000 LP >>> 5800 LP
Doku's monster still had an effect up its sleeve, however....
------------------------------
After Wild Hope's effect resolved, Rina ended the Battle Phase of her turn. "Main Phase 2: I activate my 2nd Volcanic Shell's effect," referring to the fusion-material copy in her graveyard. It was the same effect as the previous one: she dropped her Life Points down to 6700 and grabbed another Shell from the deck to her hand of now 3 cards.
"I'll set a support." After doing so, "End Phase: Fusion Recycling Plant activates. Because I Fusion Summoned this turn, I can bring one of the materials back to my hand - so I'll be taking another Volcanic Shell." Collecting said card from the grave, she nodded to herself, then gestured with her hand as she said "and I end my turn."
The boy nodded at Rina. "A trap monster? I didn't expect that" Doku really didn't know anyone who used trap monsters. So Doku was pretty excited to see just what Rina could do with her cards! Doku was very careful with Rina's cards, that much was true. He hated his own cards getting damaged so his friend's cards definitely were safe. He picked her Ignition Beast Volcannon, he didn't know what the card did exactly, but hey, lucky pick?
So now, it was time to watch Rina's turn. He was actually quite excited to see what she was doing. Her first move was already nice, a field spell! A way to search for a fusion spell? Well, hopefully, that meant Rina was going to fusion summon, maybe her ace monster. After a bit of searching and such it was time for a fusion summon. This is what he was waiting for!
As Rina summoned her mon ster Doku would whistle. "Damn~ That thing is pretty cool. I know that card!" As they went to the battle phase, he would place his Wild Hope in his Extra Deck. "Since Wild Hope was destroyed..." He picked up his deck and quickly picked through his deck. "I get to add an Abyss Actor. I'm gonna add Comic Relief!" Honestly, Rina had put some pressure on him, so it was time to step up his game!
"Alright! I'm gonna draw!" He chuckles and then places Comic Relief in his scale. "Scale 8 Comic Relief! And once again I'm going to use Maddona, to add my Twinkle Little Star!" He flashed the card towards Rina. "Now! I pendulum summon!"
Doku placed 3 cards on the field. The Twinkle Little Star, Superstar, and Liberty Dramastics (to his EMZ). "Take the stage Abyss Actor Superstar! and... the supporting cast..." He smirked. "Now Rina~ Do you like Romantic Stories?" It was a rhetorical question. "Cause I'm going to use Abyss Script - Romantic Terror!" He picked up Liberty Dramatics and summoned Wild Hope from his ED to her zone. "It puts an abyss actor back into my hand to summon another from my deck!"
"And now! Comic Relief" he tapped his cards. "I get to switch control of our cards~ So you take Wild Hope and I'll take Blaze Fenix~" He would soon switch around their monsters. "I'm gonna use your monster's effect! You're gonna take...." He counted on his finger for a few seconds. "2400!" he was able to close the gap between the two of them.
"Now I'll tribute my Twinkle Little Star and Blaze Fenix to summon Abyss Actor - Evil Heel!" Doku wasn't expecting to tribute summon but it would clear Blaze Fenix. "Next, since Comic Relief isn't in my scale anymore, I'll set Liberty Dramatist in my scale!" He would think about his next play. "So I'm gonna use my Super Star to set a script on my field. I'll pick the opening ceremony. Then I'll activate it! Giving me 1000 LP."
"Now we'll go to combat! Super Star will destroy my Wild Hope. With your field empty Evil Heel is gonna hit yah directly!"
However, his attack was stopped by a trap! Ending Doku's turn. "Damn. What a good trap. Your turn Rina!"

"Ack...! The Wild Hope's back!" Rina joked as the monster was summoned to Doku's Extra Monster Zone.
But things got a bit more serious once Comic Relief's effect was activated. "Cheh," she passed her Fenix over to Doku's side. It was almost immediately after that when it dawned on her. "! Oh no...!" She cringed with a grin on her face. She remembered Wild Hope's effect; all that was left to do was to destroy it. But what she forgot about was Doku's ability to use Blaze Fenix's special effect against her: burn damage. The bombardment bird would inflict 300 damage to Rina for every card existing on the field. Doing so would prevent it from attacking this turn, but with 8 cards on the field, totalling 2400 points of damage, giving up its attack wasn't a major loss. Besides, there was no telling what Rina's face-down card was. He was probably playing it safe, just in case.
RINA: 6700 LP >>> 4300 LP
And then her ace was sacrificed towards the summon of the 'Evil Heel' Abyss Actor! "A Double-Tribute Summon...!? I mean, it's been a while since I've seen anyone actually go for one." If Doku's goal was 'more' damage, it was a clever way to boost that. In essence, he was trading 1000 damage for 3000. It was like summoning another Level 4 beatstick, but far sturdier.
And to top it all off, Liberty Dramatist returned to the Pendulum Zone, ready to cause chaos yet again! ...Or so Rina thought - until she noticed that Doku didn't have any cards in hand... ---but then remembered Wild Hope again...!!
"Augh nooo!" pretending to grab and scrunch her own hair in frustration. "Gaaah~, I see where this is goiiingggh...!" Her expression softened as Doku continued his turn, grabbing and using Opening Ceremony to raise his Life Points to 5800. Then came the Battle Phase. With Superstar attacking, Rina allowed it to do the deed and destroy it. "...." Then Evil Heel attacked directly. "!?" Oddly, Rina looked surprised. "Huh? ...Wait-wait, what about Wild Hope's effect?" she asked. "Aren't you gonna activate it?" The girl wasn't sure if she was missing something or not, but she was expecting a couple of things to have started at that moment.
---------------------------
With that said and understood, "Ah. Okay. Well then, when Evil Heel attacks...," Rina reached for her face-down card and revealed a new trap card. "I'll spring a 'Pinpoint Guard' on ya! It grabs a Level 4 or lower monster in my grave and revives it. I'll bring back my Volcanic Shell to block your attack. ...---! Oh, and other attacks, this turn, too, 'cause P-Guard makes it destruction-proof - even by card effects!"
Volcanic Shell: DEF 0
The assault was thwarted. Rina smiled at the indirect compliment.
"Aaalrighty! Draw! ...!!" Rina drew a spell card. It wasn't Dyna Base, but in Rina's mind, it was worth far more, sentimentally. "You're going on standby." she said to it, ready to begin her turn.
"Activating Fusion Recycling Plant again, trading the Shell in hand for the 'Poly' in the grave." She was priming for another Fusion Summon.
"Next, I'll send Volcanic Shell to the grave to set a Link-1 arrow and Link Summon! Here comes 'Linkuriboh!'" as she collected the Link Monster from her ED pile and placed it.
Linkuriboh: ATK 300
"NOW it's fusion time!" playing Polymerization. "'Shell' again... and 'Ancient Gear Frame'!" She sent them both from her hand. "Two forms combine to create a wild power! A will of steel and a burning desire for destruction cement its resolve! Fusion Summon: Level 6! the Ignition Beast, 'Volcannon!'"
ATK 2300
With the Fusion Monster placed on the field, Doku would be able to see that it was one of the other copies of the card he banished. Because of that, 1/4 of her power was gone, but she would make the most of what she had until she runs out of options.
"With Volcannon summoned, I can activate its effect:" she'd soon tap it, then rotate her hand upward 180 degrees until the tapping finger pointed across to Doku's biggest monster. "it can destroy itself and take another monster you control with it: Evil Heel's gotta go!" Rina then twisted a corner of her lips. "Now, normally, you'd also take damage equal to its ATK in the grave..., buuut, well...---"
---------------------------------------
She really wished she was able to make Doku take damage. It would have dropped him to 2800 - 35% health. The redhead needed to get back on the offensive, and she hoped her next card could get her there.
"Then I'll set this support face-down and End." With that, her hand was empty. But...
"End Phase: I Fusion Summoned, so the Recycling Plant lets me take Ancient Gear Frame back to my hand. I'll call it a turn with that."
RINA: 4300 DOKU: 5800
Ace Monster: "Blaze Fenix, the Burning Bombardment Bird;" "Volcanic Doomfire"
Well, Rina did ask a good question, he didn't use his Wild Hope's effect. "I don't really have any cards to add-" It was choice paralysis, he wasn't exactly sure what to add so he just didn't, after a bit. He would let Rina take her turn, wanting to see how it would go. He was pretty impressed by her little advantage engine, as long as she had that field spell she'd have her fusion spell every day. A lot like his little pendulum action!
As she added the poly to her hand, he was fully expecting an instant fusion summon, but there was a link summon. Linkuriboh, was really gonna put a dent on Doku's beatdown. It was just gonna be a pain to get over. Though next was that fusion summon, just what he was excited for! Doku would take a pause before he looked at the fusion monster. He didn't wanna kill Rina's excited for the fusion, he would mumble. "Wazat..." He would tilt his head to read the card. Though Rina would soon explain it. "Praise the pendulum!" He seemed relieved that he didn't take all that damage!
"My turn! I'ma draw!" He looked at the card it was, it was Mellow Madonna, a card he already had in his scales, but hey it wasn't that bad. "I'm gonna go for a Link Summon. I'll use my superstar to make my Hyper Director!" He would soon summon his Liberty Dramastic from his scales to the field. "Because of my hyperdirector! He drags an actor from my scales, onto the field and replaces it with another! So I'll take liberty dramatist, summon her, and put another Comic Relief from my deck into my scales!" Once again he would search his deck. "And Liberty Dramatic is gonna write another script~" He would set his Abysstainment onto his field. "Next! You can see my new card! I'll link my two monsters to summmmmon!" He summoned his Super Producer. "Super Producer!" He said in quite a singsong voice. "And with Mellow Maddona I'll search my funky comedian!" He would tap his two pendulum scales. "time to pendulum summon!"
This time for four monsters! Wild Hope, Superstar, Mellow Madonna and Funky Comedian. "Funky Comedian's effect lets him buff up one of my actors by 300 for each abyss actor! So Superstar is up to 4300! Though, after that joke, comedian can't attack..."
"Next. I'll use the Abysstainment I set. And that'll let Mellow Madonna summon another Actor to complete the show! I'll summon Leading Lady from my deck!" He would soon send his Funky Comedian back to his ED. "I'll tribute her with Abysstainment to set any script from my Grave! So I'll bring Abyss King back! and now I'll activate it! So I can destroy both of your face-up cards!" Soon Rina would find her two face up cards destroyed. "Next up, to make sure you can't stop my attacks! I'll use Super Producer! He can destroy one of my actors to activate my field spell directly from my deck!" He was acting far more... theatrical, waving his hands and emphasizing random words.
"Now let's go to battle! Super Star! Attack!" He would declare his attack! But not before Rina activated Scapegoats. and her field was full of 4 tokens. Damn..." He would use his 4 monsters to clear her board. "If you didn't have scapegoat you'd be toast..." He chuckled. "I end my turn!" he slowly moved Abysstianment to the grave.

With Fusion Recycling Plant and Linkuriboh wiped off of the field, Rina seemed to be in a pinch. After she activated one of her favorite cards, Scapegoat, and gained a field of four sheep monsters to protect her, they, too, were systematically snuffed out. However, thanks to them, the same couldn't be said for Rina's Life Points.
In response to Doku's truth, Rina, with a pained grin replied "Yikes, tell me about it...!" rubbing her forehead a little. "I wasn't expecting to need it like this at all, this turn. And I didn't even think that you'd pop my recycling plant, either! Like, I honestly thought you'd be all, like, 'Not worth' and leave it alone," making light of her predicament.
But the truth of the matter was indeed that her ability to easily Fusion Summon was now obliterated. "Draw...! ...!!" And the card she drew would have been perfect for another such fusion: Volcanic Rocket. She only had Rocket and Ancient Gear Frame in hand, but if Fusion Recycling Plant were still on the field, this would have turned into a big, damaging play against Doku after summoning the rocket monster.
But even if she couldn't pull that off, anymore, she had no intention of laying down, either.
"I summon Volcanic Rocket!"
ATK 1900
"I'll activate its effect to add a "Blaze Accelerator" card to my hand." But that wasn't going to happen.
-----------------------------------------
Doku didn't activate a card in response, but his already active Field Spell card changed her monster's effect??
"It does that?? Serious?? .... Bwaaah, fine...!" A little deflated that it caught her off-guard, she sighed, but in all honesty, it wasn't going to stop what she was going to do, ...maybe. She picked Doku's lone face-down support card to destroy - the only selectable target.
"...---!! Nooo~!"
'Waking the Dragon' (Normal Trap Card)
"Aaagh, you played me!"
------------------------------------------
'Mysterion the Dragon Crown' (Fusion Monster)
ATK 3000
Rina realized that even if she still had her recycling plant active, Doku would have been able to stop her cold in her tracks, anyway!
"Bah! Battle Phase! Attacking Super Producer!"
DOKU: 4800 LP >>> 4500 LP
"Heh. You foiled me, but at least I could do that much. I end my turn!"
He would watch Rina's next move carefully. As she summoned down her rocket, he would snap his fingers. "I don't think so! My theater has strict rules~ The first monster effect gets a rewrite! You have to destroy one of my set cards!" This was where Doku would be a bit cruel he'd give Rina the choice, though he only had 1 set card. He would flip his set card and put it in the grave. "You set off Waking The Dragons!!!" He would chuckle. "This lets me summon out a monster from my extra deck! Here comes Mysterion The Dragon Crown!"
That was the strength of his field spell, it let him trigger the set effects of his scripts. "Now, that it's MY turn, I think I'll bring this show to a close~" Doku went full performance mode! "I drawwwww" Dress Rehearsal? Well, Doku didn't exactly need it now. "I'll use Mellow Madonna and Wild Hope to Link Summmmon! Link 2 Beyond The Pendulum!" A card Doku thought was beautiful, but of course, he wasn't going to say that. "I'm gonna use her effect! I can pay 1200 life points to add any Pendulum Monster from my deck, I'll grab another Superstar. Next! I'll use Beyond The Pendulum and Superstar to Link Summon again~ Link 3 Exceed The Pendulum! " He tapped his pendulum scales. "I'm gonna swing our performance into the grand finale!" Doku summoned 4 monsters filling his field. "Superstar one, and Superstar two, Wild Hope, Mellow Madonna! Time to end the show! I'll overlay level 7 Madonna and Superstar build the overlay network!" He stacked the cards. "Odd-eyes Rebellion Xyz Dragon!" He would soon detach a material. "I can detach one overlay unit to destroy your monster!"
"Now! The show will end!" Well, Doku seemed confident but from what he saw of Rina's deck, he wouldn't be surprised if she had a card like Swift Scarecrow or Battle Fader. "Superstar! Wild Hope! Attack!" His two actors would attack leaving Rina with 200 life points.
"Now! Special Guest Star Mysterion! Attack!" With that Rina hit 0 LP. Doku would smile and extend his hand offering his friend a shake. "Well, that was a good Duel Rina~ You had me on the ropes!"
