Chaeyoung has a striking, unique and in your face style and appearance to match her lifestyle and punk attitude. Her look is based around individuality, rocking her signature hairstyle, alongside equally stand-out outfits at times as well. She has a typical dancers body, toned from extensive training, with defined legs and hips and a small waist. She has some height to her, elongating her legs as opposed to her torso.
PERSONALITY
LIKES:
- Socialising and parties, particularly with people with a similar mindset to her. Hanging out at the Arcades and playing games keeping it cute, or at the skater parks with more rebellious people. - Alternative music, her favourites being Gorrilaz, Diiv, as well as more cyber-punk styles such as Night Club or Grimes. Some classic rock too. - Graffiti/Street art and roller blading, as well as dance of course.
DISLIKES:
- Disrespect, although she reacts stronger when it is directed towards others than to herself. - People telling her what to do in an excessive manner - Oppressive figures of authority. - Overly judgemental people when it is unwarranted/bullies - People that are bland or too confined to certain things. Goodie two-shoes or teachers' pets.
Personality - Strengths and Weaknesses.
Personality: Strengths: Very opinionated and straight forward when it comes to how she feels about someone. If she doesn't like them, she will make it obvious, and if she does she will try her hardest to keep them safe and make sure they're okay. She will always choose to be honest, whether it's by being blunt and real with her friends, or it’s speaking her mind and defending herself or her friends. Chaeyoung is a free spirit and a rebel, someone who marches to the beat of their own drum and doesn’t care about what others think of her, making her naturally outgoing and fun, as she tends not to worry about how she is perceived, giving her more room to be herself. To her friends, she is very protective and kind hearted, but not in a bland way. She is a lot of fun and makes sure to treat the people she cares about in the right ways, even if they don’t always agree on things. Even with Mina, their styles and music taste are quite different yet it doesn’t change their bond.
Weaknesses: These same traits can also be seen in a negative light, as being someone who is so rebellious, to the point of anarchy, means she does not deal well with rules or authority, often breaking them to do things such as street art, partying and staying out late. This same opinionated attitude can also backfire. It can cause her to come off as abrasive or rude at times which may potentially rub other potential survivors the wrong way. Being as argumentative and quick to switch into fight mode can make situations escalate when they wouldn't need to. Her transparency may also be a problem when dealing with more dangerous antagonists as she will not let them have the power over her. Like Mina, Mina can be used against her for manipulative purposes, creating an explosive reaction from her as that is now her best friend. She also can be quite petty and finds it hard to let things go against people that have rubbed her the wrong way. Just like the rest of her, Chaeyoung is polarizing and will not get along with everyone.
Chaeyoung is typically very outgoing and in your face without much care for scrunity or negative opinions. Much like Mina, Chaeyoung is unapologetic in who she is and marches to the beat of her own drum. Blunt and opinionated at times, though, if you do something she does not like, she will verbalise this. She can be spiteful and finds it hard to forgive people who have wronged her or her friends, unlike Mina who is more forgiving. While she is friendly, she is a good sense of character and knows to keep her guards up at first with people before fully letting them in, especially if she notices red flags. To her friends, Chaeyoung is fun, passionate and honest, but with people she dislikes she can be a formidable enemy.
HISTORY
Chaeyoung didn’t have the average Korean upbringing. Her father was an artist and her mother was a choreographer. Despite the fact that most Koreans are very conservative, her parents were always open minded and supported everything she wanted to do despite how crazy it sounded. Chaeyoung is a girl who’s full of life and likes to have a good time. She is always outgoing and is always willing to lend a helping hand or a shoulder to cry on. Chaeyoung has always had one big goal: To be successful in her own way. She always had a love for music and dancing as well. At a young age, during her time in high school, she would go to the arcade and would play the Dance Dance Revolution game mat with her friends. She was only doing it for fun but her friends always told her that she was good at it and this made her decide to actually take up dance. They also tended to be very rebellious, even anarchistic, staying out late, drinking, and doing street art all around Seoul, on rollerblades, something she still does to this day at the Academy. She may be in a new establishment, but this type of lifestyle is something she did not want to leave behind. The school system and Chaeyoung did not agree with each other due to said rebellious nature, often not showing up or getting into trouble, until she decided to drop out. She preferred the creative world, not the academic world, and all schools ever did was suppress this, encourage children to always go with the grain instead of against it. Being good and following rules was not her style. Chaeyoung focused on music, dance, and simply enjoying her youth, trying to get her foot in the door into the music industry through meeting people in studios, as well as on the nights out. It tended not to get anywhere at this time, but Chaeyoung took it in stride.
Eventually, she met Mina at the same arcade and they’ve been close friends ever since. Chaeyoung noticed Mina was quite reserved at the start, sticking to herself and sometimes even watching her and her friends from afar. Chaeyoung took no time at all welcoming Mina to her friendship group, and the pair hit it off very quickly. Chaeyoung served as sort of a big sister to Mina, since Mina had a rough upbringing and wasn’t able to be as free as she was; Chaeyoung felt saddened for her, she saw a lot of herself in Mina, yet she was another victim of the oppressive Korean society that Chaeyoung was able to free herself from. Chaeyoung felt sympathy for the girl, and something in her beckoned her to take her under her wing, even if it might not have been the "cool" thing to do according to her friends. While Chaeyoung enjoyed the punk lifestyle, felt it in her soul, she did not agree with gatekeeping, or the belief that they were too cool for others. Her friends had their hang-ups about bringing Mina in, but Chaeyoung didn't care. She took her in, and did the thing that came naturally to her, showing Mina how fun and liberating it can be to just be yourself and let loose. And that is what they did, with Chaeyoung bringing Mina into her life and the type of things she liked to do, even outside of the Arcade. Oftentimes they would go alone to skateparks and the like, doing graffiti etc, having parties and skipping curfew. It was invigorating and eye-opening for them both; Mina unlocking the gates to a whole new world, and Chaeyoung discovering a friendship that felt a bit more meaningful and real, something beyond only a good time. Chaeyoung found she needed Mina just as much as Mina needed her, as Mina's more innocent, pure and loyal personality was a breath of fresh air to her, and Mina is always there to calm Chaeyoung down after an argument or whenever she was feeling upset about something, as all her other friends were much more surface level friendships. It was a peculiar experience, one she did not see coming, but one she appreciates. And now, they are closer than anyone else.
Chaeyoung convinced Mina to follow her dreams and to be more confident like she had learned, whilst also improving on herself, in particular, her body and dancing skills, honing in on her craft during her free time, and her looks. Chaeyoung embraces her good looks confidently, instead of shying away from them, and even had a few things augmented, which she was very open about while being in Korea, something that is very taboo there. This, in tandem with her alternative style and lifestyle combined, caused her to frequently be shunned by hateful people around her, the target of jealousy and or/ignorance due to how confident she was and how little she cares about the opinions of others, on top of how much she stood out from the crowd. Despite not truly caring, being sassy she did not let it slide, arguing with most of them or just giving them petty one liners. Just because she didn't take it to heart did not mean she would let herself be a pushover. Infact, it was quite the opposite. Being as outspoken and unfiltered as she is, she knows how to shut people down and finds it fun sometimes, often getting into verbal altercations. They never tended to escalate unless the other person took it there, or if they pushed her buttons enough. Chaeyoung doesn't have much triggers when it comes to herself, but her short fuse and temper lies in her loyalty to others. She cares a lot about the people around her she deems close, and so, if anyone tries to attack them or insult them, Chaeyoung will be quick to defend them and get hyped up, especially if it gets too serious. Situations like this have happened with Mina, where Mina herself has had to help simmer Chaeyoung down.
Since she and Mina both had a love for music, albeit in different ways - Chaeyoung preferred the more alternative stuff like Gorrilaz, while Mina liked classic KPOP - they decided to pack up & do their own thing for real this time, hearing about the City of Silvershine and seeing it as an opportunity to get their names out there. It wasn’t easy for them, but they were able to move in to a small studio apartment in SS metro, due to he money Chaeyoung's parents gave her, and finessing some boys for extra. After a few months of hard work, Mina working a Korean street food stall and Chaeyoung offering dance classes as a freelance choreographer, they finally got their stuff together and were able to focus on music. They auditioned for various companies and released music as a pair, but while they waited, they discovered that the Liberta Duelling Academy was accepting outside applicants. A bit late to the whole Duel Monsters craze but seeing it as a chance to get their names out there, maybe even gain some deals as they progressed, they decided to apply, just barely getting in through the entrance duel after having vaguely practised with cards that caught their eye, having gone with aesthetics over power. Now, they have a much different setting to exist in, one which feels slightly unusual for such rebellious spirits, as they build up their music careers in Silvershine.
