Laid back, shy, kind, and charming. Those are just a few words that can describe the personality of Jinsei Terumi. It’s usually hard to find any reason to dislike him; he’s friendly to anyone he comes to meet, and isn’t one to push anyone to the sidelines. Jinsei will make time for anyone, friend or stranger, and it’s not rare that he will go out of his way to help anyone in need.
He’s intelligent, really bright for a teen his age, but rarely ever shows it. He hides it behind a façade of an aloof mask. However, when he gets into a problem that requires his brainpower, Jinsei’s drive reveals his calculating and strategic side, able to apply the slightest of details to solve his problems. His curiosity also comes out, showing the mind of a genius, ever wanting to learn more. It’s thanks to this curiosity that he enjoyed living life to see what’s out there, treating each day as if it was his last, making it rare to have a dull moment when he’s around.
In today’s society, he’s what they call a ‘nerd’ or a ‘geek’ and he’s very proud of it. He’s well versed on pop-culture and finds various informative animal and historical documentaries to be quite entertaining. To him, a wonderful day would consists with a bunch of comic books, friends, an anime marathon, and a whole bunch of junk foods, There is never a chance that he doesn’t take to make a wise crack or a joke to dissolve social tension, and most of the time during duels, he’ll spill out a comment on how cool, cute, or creepy monsters are. Overall, he’s strong willed, determined, and can take hits and dish back at the best of them.
HISTORY
Born as the eldest child of 5 to Kiryu and Yuki Terumi, Jinsei started his childhood in Chicago, Illinois. His father was a surgeon while his mother was a retired Pro Duelist who went to become an author. The two had met during her retirement match and Kiryu had mustered up the courage to treat her to coffee after the match. From there, the two fell in love and soon after, Jinsei was born. Things were relatively simple for the family, especially when it was just Jinsei. It was due to his mother that he started to get into his various hobbies of anime, comic books, etc., due to the free spirit Yuki had possessed.
His father was the more serious one, but he supported Jinsei in whatever he was in because he reminded him of the same light that sparkled in his wife’s eyes whenever something interested her. So, when Jinsei began to start getting into the world of Duel Monsters, it was an easy transition. Hearing about his mother’s various awards and fame in her past life greatly interested the child and he wanted to find out for himself what about the game that completely took his mother in and made her a professional. However, things got a bit more hectic when his four siblings came into the picture. Two pairs of twins; it was safe to say that his parents’ attention would definitely be on them for a time, leaving Jinsei to explore around the card game by himself in his own free time.
Eventually, his father’s job caused the family to move to Europe and Jinsei wasn’t a fan of it. He had to suddenly up and leave his friends who he made thanks to Duel Monsters. But, it was for his father and the family needed to be supported, something he knew even at his young age. Thus, the Terumi family moved and a while afterwards, Jinsei's interest in the card game got to the point where he wanted to learn more about it the best he could. And after looking into it, Jinsei found three places where he could do just that: Liberta, Aurae, and Parietem Duel Academies.
Bringing the information to his parents, Jinsei wanted them to give him the go ahead to transfer to the duel school and while his mother was fine with him choosing whichever he wanted; his father wasn’t too pleased with his son suddenly dropping his education and changing it to dueling. However, due to Jinsei's excitement in explaining things, Kiryu misunderstood and didn't realize that the duel academies had also provided general education along with classes about Duel Monsters. Thankfully, his wife spoke up and reminded him that not only they talked about the chance that Jinsei wanted to follow in her footsteps and how they would support it the best they could, but that the academies also had general education because she too had attended one. However, Kiryu said that he wanted to see how serious his son was with this, which led him to challenge Jinsei to a duel and told him that if he could get past him, then he was free to choose whatever school he wanted to attend.
Despite Kiryu bringing a good game, Jinsei had adopted his mother’s dueling style and formulated a well put-together deck, which brought the teen victory. Admitting defeat, his father mentioned that it was like watching Yuki in action like the old days and he gave Jinsei his blessing in the path he chose for himself. Jinsei would then go on to choose Liberta Duel Academy and after getting the necessary paperwork finished; he made his way to the campus and began the first steps towards the future he wanted for himself.
