When Melody came her way, Rina pulled out her phone, ready to begin the prep work. The device had a purple protective case with tiny star designs all over it. Upon arriving, Melody apologized for getting carried away a bit at the end of their duel, but was ready to get down to business. Just as Rina was about to respond and tell the girl not to worry about having overdone it, Melody momentarily put things on hold to get in touch with Penelope. "! Oh, ...I wonder if she was watching the duel." While Melody typed her text, Rina quickly and casually gazed back toward the crowd to see if Penelope happened to be close by; the redhead didn't spot her, so she just assumed 'not.' "I need to add Penelope's info to my phone, too; I didn't have time to do it before." She reached into her gold-accented uniform's skirt pocket for the business card that Penelope wrote on, but then paused and debated the notion. "---Actually..., Melody said she'd only be a sec, and I know I'd be a bit if I add Penelope's stuff now...." Rina removed her empty hand from her pocket. "I'll wait until after."
So instead, Ms. Kasakura silently waited for Ms. Tomozawa, now beginning the prep on her phone for the exchange. When the blonde gave the okay to exchange numbers and Chat IDs, "Okay," Rina got both ready and then held the phone up to electronically give Melody her phone number and the very standard 'RinaK' Chat ID. After a quick moment followed by a short jingle, the exchange was complete. "Did it! Nice." She was glad that she spoke up to Melody when she did, happy to have another interesting person on her friends list. It tangibly showed that she was making progress initiating conversations - and making friends. "Thankya, thankya," she said somewhat humbly. "So with this, we can keep up to date on whenever the tea get-together is - or anything else, even."
{SPOILER: Adams vs Schiltz} Lex Adams, the young but mature looking Uniteal male with the long, dark blue hair, started the duel off by summoning 'Mythical Beast Medusa' to the field. He then activated the spell card 'Spell Power Mastery,' adding an 'Endymion' card (Endymion, the Mighty Master of Magic) to his hand and 1 Spell Counter onto his Medusa, with another one added onto it once the card's resolution ended - thanks to one of Medusa's effects.
Setting the Pendulum Scales with 'Endymion, the Mighty Master of Magic' (<> 8) and 'Reflection of Endymion' (2 <>) afforded Medusa 2 more Spell Counters.
Initiating a Pendulum Summon, Lex brought forth 'Keeper of Dragon Magic,' whose effect bestowed the duelist with a 'Magicalized Fusion' spell card, at the cost of the 'Breaker the Magical Warrior' in his hand. Shuffling his deck, Mr. Adams ended his turn.
==========Turn 2:
Next up was the toothy-grinned Yuwen. The short-haired Legold student with the silver accent over blonde started things off with 'The Melody of Awakening Dragon,' discarding a Blue-Eyes Abyss Dragon to add 'Blue-Eyes White Dragon' and Alternative White Dragon to his hand. Reflection and Medusa each gained a Spell Counter through their respective effects.
Unfazed, revealing the Blue-Eyes White Dragon in his hand, Yuwen Special Summoned 'Blue-Eyes Alternative White Dragon' so that he could treat it as the original's name and use 'Polymerization,' fusing his two Blue-Eyes White Dragons together into the Blue-Eyes Twin Burst Dragon' as Medusa and Reflection gain another Spell Counter, respectively.
He then activated the effect of Blue-Eyes Abyss Dragon from the graveyard; by banishing it, his Twin Burst Dragon's ATK was permanently pumped up to 4000. Now satisfied, the blonde youth would bring the fight to the blue-haired teen.
The battle began with Blue-Eyes Twin Burst Dragon attacking Mythical Beast Medusa. Lex activated Medusa's effect, removing 2 of its Spell Counters to halve Twin Burst's ATK down to 2000 until turn's end. Still, that dragon pulverized the 1500-ATK creature, destroying it and inflicting 500 damage to Adams. Able to continue the assault with Twin Burst's ability to attack monsters twice, Schiltz attacked the Keeper of Dragon Magic. Even with the massive creature weakened, with 1800 attack points, the keeper was unable to match the Blue-Eyes monster in sheer strength; it, too, perished, dropping Adams's Life Points to 7300.
Following that, Yuwen set a card to his backrow, then he played 'Bingo Machine, Go!!!' He revealed 3 cards from his deck: Blue-Eyes White Dragon, Alternative White Dragon, and a trap card, The Ultimate Creature of Destruction. After shuffling them and showing Adams the back of those cards, the young Schiltz had the Uniteal student pick one, adding the selected card, known only to him as the Blue-Eyes White Dragon, to his hand, and the rest were shuffled back into his deck. Reflection of Endymion gained a 4th Spell Counter off of the bingo machine as Yuwen's turn came to an end - and with it, Medusa's effect wore off; the Blue-Eyes Twin Burst Dragon's halved ATK reverted to its former 4000-ATK glory.
==========Turn 3:
After drawing a card to begin his own turn, Lex Pendulum Summoned Mythical Beast Medusa back to the field in Attack Mode - as well as 'Servant of Endymion' in Defense Mode. Following that up, he activated his Magicalized Fusion spell card. Using the Keeper of Dragon Magic and Breaker the Magical Warrior in his graveyard, he formed the mighty 'Mysterion the Dragon Crown!' It would have 3000-ATK, but, with its banished materials, it lost 100 ATK for each, dropping the Fusion Monster to 2800. But it seemed that wasn't an issue for Lex at all. Everyone wondered how he'd get past the 4000-ATK behemoth, some even noticed that Lex had no more cards in his hand, and that the Twin Burst Dragon had an effect that prevented its destruction from battle. So how was he going to surpass it?
Using his Medusa, as well as his Servant and Mysterion, he created a Link-3 Circuit and Link Summoned 'Selene, Queen of the Master Magicians.' Lex explained that if she's Link Summoned, she gains Spell Counters equal to the number of spell cards on the field and in both graveyards. With 5 spells in the graveyards and the 2 Pendulum Scales on the field, the count came to a total of 7 Spell Counters. Removing 6 of those, Adams activated the effect of his 8-scale 'Endymion, the Mighty Master of Magic,' which both Special Summoned it from the Pendulum Zone and destroyed Yuwen's backrow 'Drowning Mirror Force' and his Blue-Eyes Twin Burst Dragon. Destroying 2 cards through that effect afforded Endymion with 2 Spell Counters of his own.
Lex then chose to attack directly with both Selene's 1850 ATK and Endymion's 2800 ATK, reducing Yuwen to 3350 Life Points. He ended his turn with that, allowing the silver-streaked blonde to draw his next card, which happened to be a new Blue-Eyes Alternative White Dragon.
==========Turn 4:
Along with the Blue-Eyes from earlier, he had 3 cards in hand now, but it wasn't a problem at all.
However, at the start of Yuwen's Main Phase, Lex called upon the activation of Selene's effect. By removing 3 Spell Counters from the field - 2 from Reflection of Endymion and Selene's only one - she could Special Summon a spellcaster from the graveyard in Defense Mode; the revived monster was Mysterion the Dragon Crown. At first, it didn't seem like a big deal, but then Lex explained that Mysterion's effect would trigger if Schiltz were to summon the Alternative White Dragon using its own effect again - or through any other dragon, for that matter, banishing them on the spot.
That was bad news, but thankfully, the other card in his hand might be able to get him out of this mess. Yuwen activated Trade-In, discarding Blue-Eyes Alternative White Dragon to draw 2 cards. He drew into 'Dragon's Mirror' and 'Return of the Dragon Lords.' Seeing as both cards could get him back on his feet, he activated 'Return of the Dragon Lords,' targeting Alternative in his graveyard. Not about to let that happen, Lex activated Endymion's effect; he returned Reflection of Endymion to his hand to negate the activation of 'Return' and destroy it, and place Reflection's 2 Spell Counters onto Endymion, himself, holding a total of 4.
Yuwen smirked. Lex thought he had 'im: Mysterion blocking Alternative and other dragons who summon others or self-summon; Selene protected from attacks while an 'Endymion' card is out, and Endymion, himself, stopping major spell or trap-based summons once per turn, and being untargetable and untouchable with destruction effects while it had counters. The odds were in Lex Adams's favor, but luck was on Yuwen's side. Having baited that once-per-turn effect, he could now use 'Dragon's Mirror' with impunity. Banishing 1 Blue-Eyes White Dragon and 2 Alternatives - who counted as the originals while in the graveyard - the Legold student Fusion Summoned 'Blue-Eyes Alternative Ultimate Dragon' who couldn't be targeted or destroyed with card effects!
Without skipping a beat, Yuwen activated his ultimate dragon's effect; having used Alternative as a material, it could destroy up to 3 cards on the field at the cost of being unable to attack with it. He took down Selene and Mysterion and ended his turn with only Endymion gazing up at the massive creature of destruction.
==========Turn 5:
Lex drew a card - Mythical Beast Master Cerberus - and thought for a moment before conceding the turn back to Yuwen who graciously accepted it.
==========Turn 6:
After drawing his card, Schiltz attacked Endymion, finally wiping out all of Adams's monsters while inflicting 1700 damage to him as well. With the blue-haired Uniteal student down to 5600 LP, Lex used Endymion's ability to grab a spell card from his deck when he's destroyed by battle; he went and took 'Pendulum Halt.' Yuwen then set a card to his backrow and ended his turn.
==========Turn 7:
With Lex's draw, 'Boo-Boo Game,' the pieces started to come together, but needed a bit of baiting set up to make it work. Adams activated Pendulum Halt. With 3 Pendulum Monsters face-up in his Extra Deck, he could draw 2 cards at the cost of not being able to get cards from his deck for the rest of the turn. Drawing into Spell Power Mastery and Mythical Beast Bashilisk, Lex was disappointed that he couldn't use one of those cards right now, but he had to make do. He set his trap, and his monster, just in case, and ended his turn.
==========Turn 8:
Yuwen was up. He summoned his 'Protector with Eyes of Blue' and activated one of its effects; sending it to the graveyard, he was able to Special Summon Blue-Eyes White Dragon from his hand. Blue-Eyes White Dragon attacked the face-down Bashilisk, and when the Alternative Ultimate Dragon attacked directly, Lex activated Boo-Boo Game, preventing battle damage from the 4500-attack monstrosity. Yuwen ended, passing things over to Lex who was ready to take the giant chimera dragon down.
==========Turn 9:
Once Lex drew and his Main Phase began, he activated Mythical Beast Master Cerberus as a Pendulum Scale (4 <>) but immediately used its effect to destroy itself and bring a Mythical Beast Jackal King to his hand. He then followed that up by doing the same with Jackal King. However, when Jackal King destroyed itself, its effect instead Special Summoned a Mythical Beast Pendulum Monster from the Extra Deck - namely Mythical Beast Master Cerberus.
Next up, Reflection of Endymion was returned to the left-side Pendulum Zone (2 <>). Since a spell card was activated and resolved, Master Cerberus gained 2 Spell Counters.
Then, Spell Power Mastery was activated; Adams searched out an Endymion monster from his deck: 'Magister of Endymion.' For the second half of Mastery's effect, Reflection gained 2 Spell Counters, as there was a Spell Power Mastery in the graveyard already. With the spell's resolution, Cerberus and Reflection gained more Spell Counters, totalling 4 and 3, respectively.
The right-side Pendulum Zone occupied Magister of Endymion (<> 8), giving Cerberus and Reflection 6 and 4 total counters, respectively.
With that now set, Lex activated Master Cerberus's ability, sacrificing 4 Spell Counters from the field - 2 from itself and 2 from Reflection - to banish Blue-Eyes White Dragon. However, Yuwen chained his face-down Enemy Controller, tributing the Normal Monster to gain control of Master Cerberus. (Cerberus and Reflection Spell Counters: [6:3])
With that spellcasting beast under Schiltz command, The long-haired teen had to rely on his other monster to get the job done. With the scales set (2 <> 8), Lex Pendulum Summoned 'Endymion, the Mighty Master of Magic' from his Extra Deck. With the blonde duelist's backrow empty, Lex attacked Blue-Eyes Alternative Ultimate Dragon with Endymion. The plan was to use Master Cerberus to absorb Blue-Eyes White Dragon's attack points to overwhelm the ultimate dragon. Unable to do that now, Lex had to use the card he wanted to hold on to as a backup for the next turn. During damage calculation, he activated 'Tsukumo Slash.' Since his 2800 attacker was weaker than the opposing 4500-attack monster, Endymion gained attack points equal to the difference in his and Yuwen's Life Points.
The destruction of his Fusion Monster put Yuwen down to 2800 LP, and Endymion immediately reverted to its 2800-ATK state.
The end of the turn allowed Cerberus to return to Lex's side, leaving Yuwen with no monsters, but a chance to curb a defeat.
==========Turn 10:
He drew what was likely his last card: The White Stone of Ancients.
Yuwen summoned it, then immediately created a Link-1 Circuit and summoned Linkuriboh. He ended his turn, triggering Ancients's effect to summon his last Blue-Eyes White Dragon from the deck.
==========Turn 11:
Lex drew a card. He activated Cerberus's effect again, giving up 4 counters to banish Blue-Eyes for good and gain 3000 ATK. BATTLE: Cerberus attacked Linkuriboh, causing Yuwen to activate its effect, tributing itself to drop Cerberus's ATK to 0. Endymion then attacked directly for the win, allowing Lex Adams to advance to the Finals againast Melody Tomozawa.

"Don't mention it, Rina-san," smiled Melody. "Now then, I should really be watching this duel, seeing as how I'll be taking on the winner."
Turning her attention back to the Duel Arena, Melody idly wondered if Penelope would make it back in time to watch the rest. Just in case she didn't, Melody began recording the duel with her phone, and set up a direct stream back to Penelope's phone.
God, I love KaibaCorp tech, Melody thought to herself. Say what you want about the man himself, but his work is beyond compare.
Watching the duel, Melody noticed that Lex Adams was using an Endymion deck, which was a Pendulum deck that specialized in Spell Counters. Yuwen Schiltz was using a Blue-Eyes deck, which relied on pure destruction.
Schiltz was a fierce opponent, but proved to be no match for Adams, whose seemingly endless Spell Counter effects were able to counter anything the fearsome Blue-Eyes White Dragons could throw at him.
In the end, Adams proved to be the victor, and Melody's opponent for the final match.
Melody nervously looked around, hoping Penelope had made it back in time with her Duel Disk.

It felt a bit strange to be alone in Melody's room. It's not that there was a bit of a taboo to it. She washed Melody's clothes, made her bed, arranged her meals, and managed her schedule as best she could. But usually all that happened while Melody was around and they could chat or talk about something. At least, that's how it was with her old friend Reiji Timore. Without Melody around it sort of felt like she was sneaking in.
Nevertheless, she quickly banished those thoughts from her mind. She was a professional and she had a job to do.
Fortunately for Penelope she was always very strict and rigid regarding cleanliness and putting things back in their place. Because of this, she instantly found her employer's duel disk and quickly got out of what may have been an odd feeling. She wasn't sure why she felt uncomfortable alone in Melody's room. Perhaps it was because she felt she didn't really know her well enough yet?
With duel disk in hand, Penelope hurried back to the Legold Dormitories. It took a bit of time but at long last she found Melody just as the duelist with the Blue Eyes White Dragon deck lost the duel.
"I'm here." she announced at long last, holding the Duel Disk in both hands as though emploring Melody to take it.

Rina nodded to herself, letting Melody watch the duel that was in progress, as she, too, wanted to see how things would play out. The blonde with the silver streak in his hair was doing most of the conversational talking while the blue-haired guy only really responded when he seemed to think it was appropriate, or just enough to not snub his opponent's energy and enthusiasm. Rina wanted to be more like the blonde: talking more - in the casual sense. She had already tried that and, luckily, it worked out - probably because of who she spoke with - but it didn't feel like herself, really; she was trying too hard to be fun and casual - which she thinks she is, but not conversationally. The redhead felt that, at some point, she would have to find a way to make small talk feel more... right.
When the time came for the end of the duel, Penelope arrived, announcing such to Melody. Rina wanted to jump in and say 'hi' to Penelope, but the redhead took notice of the duel disk being held out in front of Melody and chose to wait until after Melody accepted the device, letting the butler complete their apparent task, first. However, that didn't stop Rina from asking aloud "? A duel disk?" to no one in particular, curiously wondering what Melody wanted it for.
Meanwhile, as Lex Adams came out on top in the semifinal duel, general cheers and applause followed. With Yuwen giving some respectable parting words before taking his leave, Kai Hidata came forth and announced a short break before the finals to allow the finalists, both, a moment to rest or refuel for a moment. During that time, he allowed one supervised exhibition match atop the old-school duel arena, picking two people from amongst the spectators who wanted a go on it.
'Melffy vs Shaddolls' was the matchup that ensued.
------
After about 10 minutes, it was time for the finals of the party tournament to begin.
Kai announced the finals, which pits Melody Tomozawa against Lex Adams; Madolche vs Endymion! Once he prepped the audience, the young Hidata teen internally hoped that it would be a great battle and that the luck of the draw wouldn't swing too far in anyone's favor. Aside from being remembered as the host of a tourney that used the classic outdoor duel arena, he wanted to be remembered for hosting a good tournament in general - preferably a memorable, intense one - so that he could use this as a stepping stone for bigger and/or better things.
In the meantime, the finals duelists made their way to the rising platforms to get set for the last match.

Melody graciously accepted the Duel Disk from Penelope.
"Thanks, Penelope. Wish me luck," said Melody as she gave her a quick hug before stepping onto the platform.
As the platforms of the Duel Arena rose, the two finalists faced each other.
"Here's to a good duel!" said Melody as she bowed to Lex. "We've both fought hard to make it this far, so let's give it our all! But before we start, there's something I've been wanting to try!"
Melody slid her Duel Disk onto her arm. "You see, even though Duel Arenas saw less official use when Duel Disks became the standard, they were still used to test other interface devices. So let's see if this works!"
Melody inserted her deck into the Duel Disk, activating it and causing the card reader blade to appear. She then turned it over and pressed a button on the armband. A small wireless adapter popped out, which Melody plugged into the socket on the bottom-left corner of the control panel. The words 'DEVICE OK" appeared on-screen.
"Perfect! The integration works! Now I'll be able to use my Duel Disk to interface with the Duel Arena! I'm ready when you are!"

When greeted, Lex nodded and responded in kind, bouncing it back at her. "Likewise." Every duel he's had up to this point was a tough one, where any untimely mistake could have caused him to lose out. But he did make it to the finals amongst those who came out and participated. "Now I'm up against, quite naturally, the biggest challenge of the tournament. ...I've watched you fight through everyone with your perfect storm of sweets. But this is my chance to really show my progress since last year."
Lex Adams, being a second-year student in the Uniteal dorm, had always loved spellcasters. Originally from the Silvolver dorm, he had transferred over to Uniteal to undergo special tutelage to better understand the arts of Pendulum and Link Summoning. At first, he still wasn't quite skilled at using them, but before his first year had ended, Pendulum Summoning and its monsters were wired into his brain. This year, he wanted to show that he was improving with his Link Summoning as well, but he felt that winning this tournament would be the fastest way to show his growth as a duelist. If he can topple 'Madolche Melody,' word of it would eventually reach his tutors and mentors - fellow Uniteal students who all helped him along as one of their own, moreso and faster than any class would have. Validating their efforts and his abilities would be a great feeling. He just needed to stop the sudden shot of sweets from debilitating him in this duel.
But before the duel could begin, it seemed Melody wanted to try something. She had a duel disk.... Lex was perplexed for a moment, wondering why she brought it up here. It seemed she had some knowledge on the history of these old duel arenas. And after she attempted and successfully connected her duel disk to the setup via a wireless adapter, Lex, in his moment of surprise, could only whistle.
"['Wooow' whistle] Huh. Neat. Didn't know they did that." As a replica of the originals, made to work with modern play, it shouldn't come as a surprise that this level of connectivity was available, but it was unexpected by the teen with the long, blue hair. Who would think to duel with a duel disk on a platform that dramatized tabletop dueling? Naturally, not him. But this was simply aesthetics, so he was able to reset his mind on the issue and take it for what it was: cool.
Melody was ready to begin, and so was Lex. "Alright...! Hey, for showing me something good, how about I let you go first?" "And against you, this should give me a slight advantage." he thought to himself cautiously.

"Thank you, Lex-san! All right, here I go!"
Melody looked at her opening hand and sighed a bit.
Not the best opening hand in the world, but at least I managed to start off with Salon. If I work this right, I might be able to build up into something better.
Trying her best to keep her game face on, Melody made her first move.
"I'll start off by playing one monster face-down in defense mode!" A hologram of a face-down card appeared on the field.
"Next, I activate the permanent spell card, Madolche Salon!" The card appeared in the spell/trap zone.
"And finally, I'll play three cards face-down, and end my turn!"
Melody stood there, Duel Disk at the ready, trembling a bit.
Okay, that should keep me safe for the time being. If he manages to destroy Salon, hopefully I can use Marmalmaide's ability to get it back. I just have to pray that those spell counter effects of his don't totally devastate my field before I can do anything.
Post by Rina Kasakura on Oct 27, 2021 21:13:35 GMT
"A 'Set' game, huh? Alright. My turn: I draw."
The drawn card of Raigeki was reassuring, but it felt wasteful to use on a single face-down monster. He decided to keep it for whenever Melody's Xyz monsters surface. His goal for right now was to clear away some of Melody's backrow of cards, then to wipe out her face-down monster. If all three are successful, it would give him a big chance to take her down in the next few turns.
"I activate the Pendulum card 'Mythical Beast Garuda!'" The winged creature emerged behind his leftmost monster zone as the number '4' appeared above its head.
"Now I activate its Pendulum effect: with my other Pendulum zone unoccupied, I can have Garuda destroy itself along with a spell or trap of my choosing." With laser focus, "Mythical Beast Garuda, we're getting rid of that Madolche Salon!"
Garuda flew up and then dive bombed the continuous spell, almost literally, destroying both itself and Madolche Salon. To Lex, it was a satisfying start, but there was more to come.
He nodded to himself. "Mm. Next, I summon 'Breaker the Magical Warrior!'" He slapped the card onto the monster zone, bringing the 1600-ATK spellcaster to life. "When it's Normal Summoned, it gains a Spell Counter, boosting its attack by 300 points. ...But now I activate its other effect! By using up its Spell Counter, I can destroy another card from your backrow!" Lex pointed very clearly at the face-down card that he wanted to take down. Melody had cards in her 1-3-4 spell/trap zones. His gut just told him to go after the one in the -3- spot; the middle spot.
"That one! Second from my left! Breaker! Mana Break!" The spellcaster's staff lit up with magic energy. Pointing the staff at the card hologram, Breaker fired a crackling orb of magic energy, connecting with, zapping, and destroying what turned out to be the trap card Madolchepalooza.
"Two down, successfully; not bad. ...Battle! Breaker, attack the face-down monster!" The attack was made. However, Lex didn't anticipate the defending monster, the revealed 'Madolche Marmalmaide,' to have 2000 DEF. He clicked his tongue. Not only did the Uniteal student take reflected damage, dropping him to 7600 LP, Marmalmaide's effect was also triggered when it was revealed, something he didn't want his turn to end on, but such would be the case once it resolves. "Darn it...! It's almost as if you were expecting this to happen...!"

Melody couldn't help but smile to herself. Thanks to Marmalmaide, not only did she have a lead in Life Points, but she managed to get back her destroyed Madolche Salon. Sure, she'd lost Madolchepalooza in the process, but she still had two other traps that would turn this whole duel around if she used them right. All she needed was the right monster to get things going.
"My turn now! I draw!"
With her eyes shut tight, Melody placed her fingers on the deck slot of her Duel Disk.
I believe in you, my cards. I know you'll come through for me.
Melody drew her card and opened her eyes. It was Madolche Hootcake.
Perfect! This could be just what I need to turn this around, IF I manage to pull it off right! So, as they say, here goes nothing!
"First, I'll re-activate the Madolche Salon that you so thoughtlessly destroyed last turn!"
The hologram of Madolche Salon re-appeared on the field.
"Next, I summon Madolche Hootcake!" The dapper-dressed owl with a pancake on its head appeared on the field.
"Now it's time to kick things up a notch! Come forth, the circuit of royal elegance!" Melody thrust her hand forward, and a beam of light shot out of her hand onto the field below, causing a Link Circuit to appear.
"Arrowhead confirmed! Summoning conditions are two Madolche monsters! I'm setting Madolche Marmalmaide and Madolche Hootcake onto the Link Arrows!"
Marmalmaide and Hootcake flew towards the Link Circuit, transforming into streams of light as they were absorbed into the Link Arrows.
"Circuit Combine! Link Summon, Link 2! Madolche Fresh Sistart!"
An adorable nun in a frilly blue dress with matching habit emerged from the Link Circuit.
"And with that, I end my turn!" said Melody. Now let's just hope my gambit pays off.
Post by Rina Kasakura on Nov 22, 2021 16:40:34 GMT
"Alright, then. Draw!" Lex glanced at the trap card he drew before consulting with his hand on this turn's plays.
"I summon Mythical Beast Medusa to the field!" Adding the trap to his hand, he then slapped down a Pendulum monster onto the field in attack mode. [ATK 1500]
"Next, I'll setup a Pendulum Scale with 'Endymion, the Mighty Master of Magic!'" Activating the card on the far-left Pendulum Zone, placed an '8' above the magic master's hologram. In addition, due to its activation as a spell, Lex explained that Medusa's effect allowed itself to gain a Spell Counter out of it.
"I activate Spell Power Mastery," playing the spell card on the field panel before him. He placed his hand of cards down, off to the side, then he picked up his deck and explained as he searched though it. "It lets me add an Endymion card to my hand. .... And I'm gonna go with this: 'Reflection of Endymion.'" He showed it to Melody before adding the Level 7 Pendulum monster to his hand pile and shuffling his deck. "Now for the second part of Spell Power Mastery's effect, which lets me add a Spell Counter to a monster. I'm re-energizing Breaker the Magical Warrior, and I'm sure you can guess why." With a new Spell Counter on it, Breaker's ATK went up to 1900. "And now that Mastery's done, Medusa gets its second Spell Counter."
"Alright, we're set. Time to get wrecking...!"
"Breaker's effect: removing its counter to destroy Madolche Salon once more with feeling!" But Melody wasn't having it, this turn. The blonde Silvolver activated her trap, 'Madolche Promenade, which negated Breaker's effect and added her graveyard Hootcake back to her formerly non-existent hand.
"That's... not great...."
But Melody wasn't done. With Salon surviving, it was able to be triggered by the return of 'Madolche Hootcake,' enabling her Set 'Madolche Ticket' onto the field from her deck. "Dammit...; this changes everything...!" The blue-haired teen took a moment to think.
"The plan was to attack Sistart and wipe out Melody's graveyard: by forcing her to protect Sistart with its effect on the two attacks I make, returning Marmalmaide or Hootcake from the grave to the deck for each bash. With Salon out of the picture, she wouldn't have been able to add more setup to her field, and with nothing in her hand, she'd have almost no chance of mounting a comeback next turn - especially with no monsters in the grave to bounce off of. That would allow me to go ham and wipe her out on the following turn. But not only did she protect Salon, this turn, she added a monster back to her hand, too...!"
And it wasn't just any monster, either.
"Hootcake can banish a monster from the grave to bring another out from the deck. Then she'll trigger her Salon again. ...I don't remember what that Ticket card does, but if it helps her get out that Madolche Queen, I'll be in for a rough turn. But I've got Raigeki, so I can nuke her monsters after that. .... So the question now is: what should I do this turn? Promenade and Salon are both only once per turn, so I won't have to worry about them anymore; do I keep going and get her to return Marmalmaide to the deck?"
"You've got me between a rock and a hard place. Hmmm." ...Then a contrary thought occured.
"...Wait; hold on.... .... What if she lets me destroy Sistart...? There'd be two in the grave, then. That could give her more options for plays, couldn't it?" He then realized that he couldn't put the idea past her. This is the finals of the tournament; anything and everything could be possible. "...Yeah..., Melody's probably expecting me to attack so she can drop her Sistart and rebound with extra plays later.... ...So if I attack, I could be screwing myself; if I don't, I could be in less of a bad way...."

He eyed the field and thought to himself for a moment longer....
".... .... I dunno if this'll work..., but it's worth a try. Here goes...!"
"Alright, let's change things up. I'll use my two Level 4 Spellcaster monsters to construct the Overlay Network! Xyz Summon! Rank 4! Rilliona, the Wondrous Magistus Witch Wardrobe!" Once Lex stacked his monsters, the glass witch materialized onto the field in defense mode. [DEF 2800]
"I activate Rilliona's effect: by detaching an Xyz Material, I can Special Summon 'Zoroa, the Magistus of Flame' from my deck!" [ATK 1500]
"Next, I use Zoroa's effect! I can equip a Magistus monster with a Magistus from my Extra Deck! I choose Zoroa!" And with that, Lex equipped it with its Synchro counterpart, 'Zoroa, the Magistus Conflagrant Calamity.' The Syncho monster had no effect when equipped to anything, but that wasn't Lex's aim.
"Zoroa's second effect triggers! If it gets equipped with a Magistus monster, I can Special Summon a Level 4 or lower monster from my hand or grave! And I'll be bringing back 'Mythical Beast Medusa' from the graveyard!" A gurgly growl sounded as the monster rose onto the field. [DEF 1500] "Its effects are negated."
"I'll now activate the second half of the Pendulum equation: Reflection of Endymion! Setting the Pendulum Scale!" the celestial spellcaster's hologram appeared - with the number '2' above her.
"Hm."
"Then I'll set a card down in the back, and throw it to you. I end my turn."
"I don't want to chance Pendulum Summoning my Garuda from my Extra Deck only to have it sent to my deck if that Queen shows up. I might need it next turn. But at the same time, I need to bait Melody with more targets to spin if Queen does show up, and a completed Pendulum Scale could be tempting.... Then there're Rilliona and Medusa; if she avoids those defense monsters, that'll spare me some life points and give me the opening to Raigeki her field on the next turn. She could go after my set card, but that's a 'Boo-Boo Game' bluff. Hopefully, all of this'll confuse her enough to create an opportunity to rebound."
