Melody has a bit of a personality crisis. Half the time, Melody strives to be a lady of class and refinement. This carries over into her duels, where she conducts herself like a princess. Inspired by her childhood idol Puddingcess, Melody acts in a way that she believes rich people should behave, in order to set an example. Outside of duels, she tends to try to act more like a commoner, and has a more casual personality. All in all, a generally pleasant and polite person, as long as you show her the same courtesy.
Melody believes that duels should be won through pure skill, and despises duelists who rely on raw power or what she believes to be cheap, underhanded tactics.
Melody has an odd way of speaking. Despite being fluent in English, she has a habit of using Japanese honorifics when speaking, and also inserting random French words.
Melody is well-versed in the art of English-style tea parties, and knowledgeable of different blends of tea and high-class desserts, thanks to the excellent guidance of her butler Hershey.
She’s also skilled in ballet, horseback riding, violin, and piano. These were skills she learned during her years at St. Vaulfort Private Academy.
HISTORY
Melody was born the sole daughter of a high-class family. Her parents are Shuichi and Yuko Tomozawa, the owners of DuBois Confectioneries, Inc.
DuBois Confectionaries owned the high-class patisserie Doux La Fleur as well as the popular bakery chain Dubois’ Delights. They also manufactured a top-quality line of Duel Monsters-themed snacks sold in grocery stores all over the country.
Despite being busy supplying all of Japan with all manner of sugary sweet snack items, Mr. and Mrs. Tomozawa always found time to be with their little girl, and Melody loved them just as much. The same was also true for her hard-working staff of maids, and her ever-faithful butler Hershey.
Although her home life was as happy as any rich girl could hope for, her school life was a different story.
Her parents had enrolled her into St. Vaulfort Academy since they felt it was the best place for Melody to learn the necessary skills to become a true lady, just like her idol Puddingcess.
The same could not be said for the student body. Most of the students there were spoiled, stuck-up trust-fund babies who thought they were God’s gift to society, and often treated the middle class like garbage. This did not sit well with Melody, who felt that a true lady should treat everyone with respect, regardless of class. This caused her to constantly butt heads with her classmates, ESPECIALLY the student council president.
Thankfully, Melody eventually befriended the few students who agreed with her philosophy, and with their help, she excelled in all of her classes.
Melody was first introduced to Duel Monsters at the age of 10 when her parents got her a chest of rare cards for her birthday. After Hershey taught her the basics, she spent the next year honing her skills against her parents, the maid staff, and a few random people she encountered. Eventually, she built her beloved Madolche deck, and developed both a great love for dueling as well as an affinity for Xyz summoning.
At the age of 13, having developed her skills both as a duelist and a lady, Melody felt she was ready for public school, and enrolled in Mizunami Junior High. However, she faced a far greater challenge here than at St. Vaulfort.
There was a bitter rivalry between the upper and middle class students, and it wasn't long before Melody got pulled into the school's dueling society. A lot of things happened during the next three years, and Melody's life in junior high was anything but dull.
After graduating junior high, Melody felt she was finally ready to attend a true duel school.
However, her experiences at both St. Vaulfort and Mizunami had given her a lot to ponder. She eventually decided that she wanted a change of environment where her family name didn’t hold weight. She wanted to become a great duelist on her own merits, and not live her whole life piggybacking off of her family’s wealth.
To this end, Melody’s parents suggested that she visit her grandparents in France.
Upon arriving in France, Melody spent the summer at her grandparents’ estate, where she spent some time polishing up her ladyhood. During her stay, her grandfather (who was the ambassador at the Japanese embassy in France) told her all about Liberta Academy in the country of Silva, and how it was one of the most famous duel academies in the world. Melody soon realized that if she could make it there, she could make it anywhere, and with nothing else for it, she took the entrance exams and passed with flying colors. After saying goodbye to her grandparents, Melody departed for the country of Silva to begin her new life at Liberta Academy.
