Misery. That was the sole emotion that Axar had been experiencing for the last half hour as he tried to navigate the corridors of the "City Heart". Bustling crowds filled what seemed to be every inch of the floor as the Saturday crowd of families and friends flooded the halls. Axar, who was walking alone to try to get a sense of the layout of the massive mall, was completely and totally lost. Every map that would usually provide sanctuary was crowded with so many people that he could barely see anything of the actual image, causing him to continue walking through the structure which progressively seemed more and more like his own personal dungeon made to torture him for every little lie and wrongdoing he had ever done. His eyes were frantic as he walked, he had just wanted to find a hot spot to duel or learn about any upcoming tournaments, but not this...
"What have I gotten myself into..." His voice was quiet, but noticeably filled with a deep dread rising from the pit of his stomach. He felt as though he would inevitably get swallowed up by one of the oncoming tidal waves of people. Desperate for some place to hide away, he searched frantically for anything, anywhere. He scrambled through the crowds as if looking for a bright, obvious sign that read "Safe Zone". He had began to lose hope until, suddenly, his prayers were answered. In the distance he saw a small sign hanging above one of the many stores in the mall. It was a card shop, but to Axar it was a brilliantly shining beacon of hope. He soon found himself shuffling against the people who were trying to get to the many different storefronts all around him. Like struggling against a riptide, he felt himself getting farther and farther away. Fear filled him as he felt that he would be swung back out into the huge crowd yet again. Luckily, however, he was able to find an opening he could squeeze through in order to grasp against the wall of the mall. He would slowly inch his way towards the card shop, taking care not to slip away from the safety of the wall. Like a diver resurfacing for air after a long swim, he slunk into the card shop and let out a large sigh of relief.
"Thank goodness... I'm safe from the crowd..." He took a deep breathe before straightening his posture to stretch and speak to himself again. "This city is way busier than what I'm used to..." He looked around the card shop. It was small, but cozy. There were few people inside, mostly filled with people simply browsing the different card packs that the store possessed and reading the results of what appears to be a small tournament recently held by the shop. This setting was far more familiar to Axar then the rest of the mall he had experienced previously. There were a few tables nearby, so Axar took the liberty of having a seat on one after waving to the clerk. He placed his hands in the joint pocket of his white hoodie. His eyes trailed down at his black sweat pants to his solid black shoes matching them. He slunk his head back in relief. Finally... some peace...
It was yet another day in September. The birds were chirping, the sun was shining, and the leaves still hadn't managed to start changing colors. None of this still didn't matter, as Allen was, once again, indoors. It had been a few days since that wacky week Allen had. First beating that one weird silver haired guy who challenged him to a midnight duel, followed by getting in trouble for Timothy being an idiot, which led to Allen dueling Shinsei. Which after beating him with his own monster, led to Allen getting some nice chocolate and a thank you letter in his shoebox for taking Shinsei down a peg or two.
The next day Allen almost got in trouble for hitting a girl in the face during dodgeball (not for her lack of trying, as she tried her best to get him in trouble for it), and got called into the student council's office as the StuCo pres was attempting to recruit him for a pro dueling team, as he uses Timaeus, which fits with their theme. 2 days later, Allen had turned her down after chatting with someone else who uses the same archetype as him. The day after that, he ran into someone whom he became friends with... due to ending up in a duel with the guy cause he thought Allen was hitting on his younger sister. Luckily, in the 3-ish days since then, he hadn't had any more wacky hijinks happen.
Given it was the weekend, Allen had been out in the mall, practicing his magic and making some spare cash, and it was time to spend that pocket money! There was a specific card set that Allen had ordered a box of, that was only available in this specific card shop as a special collaboration set..... With an official offshoot clothing company of Kaiba Corps. That's right, it's swimsuit alt arts! Doku had promised to meet up with him here, as he had also bought a box. As the set was all reprints, it wasn't as expensive as a brand new box, like the one Doku had bought before and whiffed on all of his pulls for. It did, however, have a very high rate of parody arts, such as goblin attack force in speedos running along a beach like it was Baywatch, or white-horned dragon in a badly photoshopped on bikini.
There was, however, a small treasure trove of arts that weren't parody or gag arts. Such as Aromage Marjoram in an elegant one-piece swimsuit, or Sky Striker Ace Raye in a competition swimsuit, which was going for a mint at that point. Allen was hoping to pull a set of dark magician and dark magician girl swimsuit alts, as they were special arts where the art was connected to each other, showing dark magician in swim trunks playing volleyball with dark magician girl in a bikini, as Timaeus relaxed in the ocean in the background.
Happily taking his box from the clerk, Allen turned around and was surprised to see someone sitting at the table he had set his stuff down at. Granted, it was a big table, but it was still weird to see. Heading over, Allen casually waved to the guy. "Hey, what's up?" He said as he approached.... Which might spook the guy due to how Allen was dressed, given he looked like some kind of visual kei artist.
Axar had been keeping his eyes closed in a vain attempt to try and figure out where he'd go next. Alas, all of his ideas lead nowhere as he still had had not the slightest idea of how the mall was structured. Multiple grim scenarios flooded through his mind, some of which involved him trying to ask for directions and being laughed at, while others quite literally had him swept away to the deepest depths of the labyrinthian passages of the mall, never to be seen again. He shivered with fear, thinking to himself that maybe he should just stay in this shop until the mall started closing and then follow the crowd to the exit, but then again, he had no clue when or if the mall closed at all. Still, he would be lost no matter what. However, as he contemplated these horrific scenarios in his mind, the peace of the relative silence around himself was broken by an unfamiliar voice.
"Hey, what's up?" Axar heard a small ways away from himself. He slunk his head forward and opened his eyes to see... a rather interesting figure. The person, having a unique hairdo and strange outfit stood in front of Axar. At first, Axar almost jumped up thinking the figure was some figment of his mind. Dreaded thoughts of himself finally giving into the pressure of the mall overcame his head, or maybe he was out dying in the shopper tsunami and this was his mind trying to put him in a better place, albeit with strangely dressed people. He looked up at what he hoped to be a real person and casually raised up his right hand in a quick flick to indicate hello, before simply saying, "Yo, not much, what about yourself?" He had interacted with the person, and if he started to get strange looks he would know that this truly is just a fever dream induced by the stress from the crowd outside. Although, Axar figured out soon enough that he was, in fact, a real person. He was just trying to be friendly, wondering why this person came up to him, until he realized that he had plopped down nearby someone's belongings, presumably the figure he had just met.
"Ah, my bad, didn't see your stuff here. I wasn't trying to steal anything, promise." He had a light smile on his face after saying that. The smile was, in fact, partially due to him seeing that the others within the shop had not started to give himself strange looks. However, he couldn't help but be the one giving a strange look as the person in front of him was dressed as though they were trying to be a sort of performer or eyecatcher. Their fashion was the complete and total opposite of Axar's, and he was still unsure about how he felt about that. What did not place more confidence in himself was the special swimsuit edition box of cards the person in front of him was holding. "Ah... He's one of those people" Axar thought to himself. A deep sense of dread filled him yet again as he thought of trying to hold up a conversation with someone who was going to be an outright creep about the cards. His imagination yet again took himself on a journey of all the bad scenarios that could possibly occur, but he was able to keep a somewhat cool exterior. As a result of trying to keep it cool, he motioned for the person to have a seat nearby himself. He doesn't know why he did it, in fact, he could've just got up and moved and that probably would've been the end of the conversation, but he did it anyway much to his own dismay. He then braced himself for what could potentially be a very uncomfortable conversation with a strangely dressed creep, or, in a best case scenario, a pleasant conversation with a strangely dressed duelist.
Why did this mall have to be so damn big? Doku just wanted to peek into the game store, buy his game, and dip. Usually, he'd order it online, but it would take 5 days to ship?! But he wanted to play it TODAY. What if someone saw him!? They'd know he was a... a... nerd! So his quest was simple, head to the mall, get the game, buy it, and get out before anyone noticed him. He was nearly done! His final step was to get home, he held the bag, tightly. As she snuck through the mall doing his best not to be seen by people he might know! However, it seems he was supposed to be meeting Allen, he had lost track of the time! Why did Kaiba make a box of swimsuits? Who cared... it was good! Well to him...
Doku entered the card shop, he sighed and let out a yawn. On a table, he spotted Allen and a person he never met before. Another Friend? Regardless Doku would approach the table and let out a sigh, dropping the plastic bag on the table and looking towards Allen.
"So like. You're gonna change out of that right? You look like a-" He spotted himself looking over at the other person, stopping himself. Regardless he looked at the bag. "I bought that new game. If you wanna play later." he paused, before looking at the new guy. "Who are you exactly?" Doku asks curiously.

Axar could handle this, he was prepared. Holding up this conversation with this assumed weirdo was possible, so long as he didn't move the subject to the cards, then maybe he could avoid the conversation going in that direction. Yes, he had a handle on this, he could do this! That was until he heard an unfamiliar voice approaching himself and the stranger. "So like. You're gonna change out of that right? You look like a-" the voice suddenly stopped as the new individual met Axar's gaze. This was bad, very bad. This person was a new outlier he hadn't considered before, and therefore completely detracted from his mental preparation. More than only this, this person also seemed to know the oddly dressed stranger, meaning that he too could potentially be one of those people. Axar's mind raced with these thoughts, thinking of how he could regain control of the conversation now again, all while he maintained a straight, slightly friendly, face.
Axar just listened to how the other person talked to the strangely dressed stranger about a game that he had recently bought? Could it be one of those games for those people? If that was the case, then Axar would have no choice but to listen to these two discuss such things in front of him while he had no easy way out of such a conversation. He would have to navigate the situation carefully if he wanted this conversation to go in the direction that he wanted it to. He saw the new person's eyes drift back over to himself before they spoke up, "Who are you exactly?" Axar needed to answer smoothly and normally if he wanted this to go well. Every possible scenario flooded his mind, each leading to their own unique bad ending, he had to plan this perfectly.
"Oh yeah, I'm Axar, forgot to introduce myself to you two." That was the opening line he went with? Of all things? The most generic possible option? What was he supposed to do with that? The scenario was crumbling in front of him as he put complete control of the conversation in their court. They could go on about whatever they wanted! No, this was good for him, he could still manage this. The only remaining option was to further insert himself in order to try to steer the conversation away from anything strange. As a result, he stretched his hand out in the attempt to get a handshake from one of the two people in front of him. If he was able to quickly get out of there after they hopefully introduced themselves in kind, then he would be able to make a quick escape away from these two. The plan was genius, he couldn't fail it. His mind raced with these frankly ridiculous possibilities as he planned his escape. Then, he recalled how the atmosphere was outside, completely crowded. How was he going to navigate away? He would easily get lost in the long halls of the mall. Why was this place so absurdly huge anyway? It was ridiculous. His own lack of knowledge of the building would prevent him from escaping any potentially strange conversations with the two of them, so he resolved himself in that moment. He would endure whatever conversation they brought up in an attempt to eventually follow them out of the mall. If he was able to control the conversation long enough, he was positive that this would work out for himself. He could do it!
Allen watched as Axar introduced himself to them. 'Ah, he's being socially awkward cause he thinks we're perverts.' He thought, catching things about Axar's body language that others probably wouldn't notice. Even for Allen, he was only noticing them purely because its a skill he developed from practicing his stage magic to gauge peoples reactions. How stiffly he stuck his hand out, how he could see his eyebrow twitch slighty as he introduced himself, as if he was complaining in his head.... Which, these on their own wouldn't be much of a tip-off, if not for Allen catching that look the guy got in his eyes when he saw the side of the box Allen had been holding. It was a distinct look every guy back home tended to get when they would smuggle provocative magazines to class, or for him, when he'd bring occult magazines to class.
"Nice to meet you then, Axar. I'm Allen. Allen Akiyama. If you attend Liberta, you might have seen me around campus or heard people talking about me. I'm that first year that does stage magic around campus." Allen said, introducing himself and giving the guy some context that might let him know he's not some creep, as he had a surprisingly good reputation around school. Gesturing to Doku, Allen continued on. "And he's Doku shi. He's.... probably what you're thinking. He's that guy from that video that was going around campus of someone confessing to a girl on campus and spouting off Ojama poetry."
After having introduced Doku, Allen properly turned to him. "Also, I'm not changing clothes.... Though I was tempted to after the third time I got hit on. But, cause I didn't, I just got my box for that gag set thanks to wearing this and performing..... You DID remember that you were also supposed to buy a box too, right? You didn't blow all of your money on that new BenHun, right?" Allen asked, slightly accusatory, given that Doku was late to the meet-up. As Allen had set the box down when he sat down, Axar, should he look at it due to Allen calling it a gag set, would see that the cover art was a swimsuit edition of reinforcement of the army, where the troops are all in swimtrunks and holding pool noodles and floats, running on a beach. Turning back to Axar, Allen flashed him a smile. "Want to join us in opening packs? I don't mind sharing some of the cards as long as I get dibs on the spellcasters." He offered, as him and Doku DID have an arrangement for that. Allen gets first dibs on all of the spellcasters aside from abyss actors if there were any in the set, and Doku gets dibs on the abyss actors and Aromages.

Axar? Doku took note of it, he hadn't met the guy before so he didn't want to get his name wrong or anything like that, as such Doku repeated it to himself wanting to remember the guy's name, Doku had money to spend on the box as Allen asked he of course was going for the Aromage art! The Abyss Actor alt arts would also be nice! Though thank god he remembered, he knew if she forgot Allen wouldn't let him hear the end of it. Doku was going to introduce himself, but it seems Allen beat him to it.
"Yeah yeah. I know Allen. Everyone at the school knows that this point..." he sighed, not his proudest memory, but it was pretty funny after all. The boy would pause, and shake his head as Allen mentioned getting hit on. "I'm sure you got hit many times wearing that... Allen I have a job" He sighed and pulled out his wallet. "I didn't buy BenHun or anything, I brought Dungeon Quest 9!" He slammed his hand on the table, adamant about something so stupid and meaningless.
Doku walked over to the counter, and bought a box, placing the box back onto the table sitting down, and crossing his arms. "I don't mind letting him open some. I just get the plants and fiends~" He laughed, before looking over at Axar. "What kind of deck do you get?"

Axar was pleasantly surprised, not only did these two not appear to be creeps, but they also attended Liberta? This was way better than he thought at first. He visibly got more comfortable as Allen introduced him to Doku and talked about their time at the academy, although the supposed video of Doku asking out women through an ojama poem did make him curious, he decided to not linger on the subject and instead further engross himself in what they were saying in the present. Maybe they were in a different dorm and that's why he hadn't heard of them before? Not like there was much of an opportunity for rumors to spread since the school year had just begun. As the conversation continued and Doku revealed that he actually got Dragon Quest 9, a stereotypically nerdy video game, Axar became even more comfortable with the two other people around him. He watched as Doku went over to the clerk in order to buy another box and found himself tempted to join them in opening their boxes, but deep down he felt like he would be freeloading off of them in a way, so he couldn't bring himself to agree to it.
"It's fine, you two can keep the packs all to yourselves, I doubt there'd be anything that I'd be looking for in that set. I already have everything that I need for my deck, so I don't think there's any point in me snatching the packs from you two, but I appreciate the offer." Axar looked at the two boxes curiously, what could reasonably be inside a set like that? Axar decided that it was probably better for himself to not think too deeply into things like that, and he already knew that he had been prone to overthinking things today.
"What kind of deck do you get?" That question rang out to Axar more than any of the other conversation. Immediately a small light shone in his eyes as an excuse emerged from the conversation to gush about his deck. "I use zombies! Mayakashi specifically, it's incredibly strong, but I really can't use any generic extra deck cards in it... Not that something like that matters or anything, because it's still the strongest deck there is!" After his initial spout of excitement, Axar suddenly became more self conscious of the people around him. His sudden burst of excitement drew the attention of some others in the store, garnering weird looks and hushed whispers. Oh how the tables turn... Now he was the one being looked at strangely.
"Oh... Uh... sorry for being loud..." Axar noticeably shrunk into his hoodie after exclaiming before slightly poking his head out again to ask a question. "What decks do you two use? I presume it has something to do with spellcasters, plants, and fiends, but I'd like to know the specifics if you don't mind." He looked at the two expectantly, slowly slinking into comfort by talking about something he was this passionate about.
