Reina was not having a good week.
First she had lost the argument against President Seiko regarding the Drama Club's presentation of Duel Academy Musical. She had argued they settle their differences like proper ladies in a duel, however the President had insisted the matter was settled and there was nothing to be gained by either of them through dueling.
Secondly, she was somehow tricked into helping out backstage for the drama club's snoozefest. She was to help set up props and paint the scenery for 2 hours after class. Overall it was a hideous dreck of a week but in true Legionnaire fashion she had managed to make lemonade out of the lemons she was given and work it to her advantage.
Being backstage gave her a host of knowledge regarding stage notes, directions, and the "surprise guest" they had planned to play the big tournament organizer at the end of the play. She cooked up a plan and decided on something quick. This would be where her sabotage would begin.
Duel Academy Musical was a classic Romeo and Juliet ripoff, where the two star-crossed lovers came from rival schools but eventually fell in love. They were now dueling for a big tournament where the grand prize was a scholarship to duel abroad in Europe. This set the stage for Duel Academy Musical 2: Duelists of the Roses
Reina hated this godforsaken play, the movie it was based on, and the very premise behind a drama club at a Duel Academy. But nevertheless she was giddy and in absolute excitement as the show entered it's final act. She tried to remain cool, but couldn't help sing along with the choir as 'Bolt Zacharius' and 'Vaniella Hudgentz' began the last turn of their duel.
"Now this is the part where the duel gets tense! The crowd grows mild, results are on the fence He plays a card and she's caught off guard "Ring of Destruction? That makes no sense!""
Of course, there were no actual duel disks used, as it would be very difficult to shut off the anti-cheating mechanisms Kaiba Corp put into them. Instead a bit of dry ice went off, someone set off a few birthday party poppers, and the guy dressed as Bolt's Reborn Tengu hurried off stage. Reina rolled her eyes at the ludicrous display. There would have been more pride in dressing up as a tree. Nevertheless she smirked as she watched Bolt's life points hit zero. The actress, if she could so be called, stopped across the stage and got into Bolt's face. Reina smiled and and sung along to Vaniella's part.
"What's going on here? Why'd you take a dive?" "You could have picked another card to stay alive!" "Book of Moon you buffoon! Smashing Ground you hound! "Anything to make sure your life points would stay around!"
Reina turned to Bolt and sung along with his part as well.
"There's no need to play Vaniella, now's not the time All I did was throw the duel, not commit any crime We both played our best and yes that is true But through our time together, I felt that I grew There's something much more important than records and fame As I look at my opponent in this children's card game I thought I wanted to win, but my thoughts were askew I'll give up my dreams to be here with you."
Reina gagged at the sentiment. Throwing away their future for love? How absolutely foolish. Despite how nauseating the sentiment was, she still smirked as the little play continued. Vaniella looked away, probably having trouble blushing on command and she began her part of the song.
"We've worked all our lives for this moment right here Yet as I just heard you speak my thoughts are finally clear I feet the same way if all that you said is true. I'll give up my dreams to here be with you."
They both held hands and now sang in unison
"Yes I'll give up my dreams to be here with you. Give up my dreams to be here with you. Give up my dreams to be here- wiiiith you!"
The boy playing Bolt spoke, and Reina rolled her eyes, put on a stupid face and turned away in disgust as she mimicked him poorly.
"We can't go to Europe without each other, so we decline your generous offer chairman!"
"We want to stay together forever!" Reina mocked Vaniella and as she did, her heart skipped a beat. It was almost time for her cue.
This was the big part at the end of the movie where the tournament chairman showed up and, so touched by the true love and eternal sacrifice of Bolt and Vaniela decides to give them both the Euro Trip scholarship. It was such a schlocky and predictable ending that Reina hate all 18 times she saw the movie. But this time.. the ending would go a little bit different.
She turned eagerly to the curtain to see what would happen next.
(Hm. This is going better than expected...) Seiko mused to herself from backstage, staring out into the set with a small smile on her face. Admittedly having a play based around Duel Monsters was a bit hard to manage sometimes as some got bored of having the game shoved down their throats every ten seconds... Then again, looking past the card game, the love story was sweet. Seiko wasn't much for romance stories- not that she felt she had time to go chasing a boyfriend or girlfriend anyways- but something about Duel Academy Musical was the kind of cringe-inspiring nostalgia that made it charming. She even went the distance to have the actual movie adaptation playing in the background during her work. Watching it was a waste of two hours, but it made for fantastic white noise.
"...Excuse me, Miss President?"
"Hm? What is it?"
"Well, how do I put this? We, ah... Here, put this on," a member of the costume crew handed Seiko a suit jacket and a fake clipboard. The president hesitantly took the materials, beginning to stammer out a startled response as the play continued behind her. "Great! We need you on stage! The person playing the chairman had to step out for an emergency, and the understudy isn't answering her texts."
"H-Huh?! But what about-"
"We'll get you cue cards out in the back: don't worry too much, we just need someone out there! You're the most commanding presence here, so it's just natural we have you go!"
"Sorry, I-I don't think that you should be asking-"
"It's okay, Miss President! We're super grateful for this opportunity, and we just need one more person to make this play complete! Just look for the cue cards in the back near the central upper box, and remember: you're a tournament chairman! Good luck!~" the plucky costume crew member reassured her while helping her put on the jacket and ushering her out to the stage.
"Gah! Hey, hey! I-I didn't agree to-" Seiko began to protest, only to stumble out on stage in front of the audience who erupted into surprised applause as if she was a guest appearance on a sitcom. For a split second, she was a deer caught in the headlights. (Why did it have to be me?! I could have sworn that understudy was- ...Rrgh, this was not something I had planned for! Hmph. It's as I said to Reina earlier this week: the show must go on. Thankfully they didn't completely strand me out here, and they're leaving me cue cards...)
Clearing her throat and standing up straight, Seiko adjusted her glasses and hugged the clipboard to her chest with a serious stare out towards the audience. Improvisation was one of her strong suits, and now was ever so slightly different. The actors seemed unfazed by this introduction, giving Seiko a quiet visual "welcome" with their glances.
"Stop! Stop everything. You two... Hm," she began, starting off with a stern voice after glancing over at her cue card. Her bravado kept firm, and for her intro, she faced the actors before turning to read the lyrics from her cue card in the back. Sure enough, they were pre-made... For some reason, but in the heat of the moment, it wasn't Madame President's business to question why they had cue cards for a role that should have known them by heart at this point.
"You prove your love's more than just a crush, so much so that my face now has gone flush! But silence that passion, quiet! I said hush! I have some important news to tender!
While you're a beautiful pair, and your true love is rare, There's no way I can share in that splendor.
If you thought you'd win prizes, you're in for surprises. This tale will end here, no exemptions will be spared...
Please don't find me cruel, though your love is a jewel..."
In that moment, a critical lapse of judgment occurred as the cue card directed Seiko to put on her Duel Disk (which she had been using for a planner during the entire event) and activate it. The hi-tech display flashed to life and loaded its home interface in half of a second, ready to be used. Blue-Eyes White Dragons adorned her tech, causing some of the audience to gasp in awe at how trendy and advanced Seiko's personal device was. It was only natural that she be given the best props... Despite the fact that all of the other actors had fake Duel Disks designed to have actors play monsters. A sneaking doubt crept into her mind, quickly pushed aside by the last rhyme on the very last cue card.
"I challenge you to a Duel... VP Legionnaire?"
The crowd erupted in excitement as Seiko realized her error, recoiling back ever so slightly with a stunned wince. "What?! W-Wait, wait: excuse me? That doesn't sound right, ah hah... Sorry, folks! We, uh... A-Appear to be having some TECHNICAL DIFFICULTIES on set at the moment! Th-Thank you so much for your patience, heh!~" Seiko tried to reassure the crowd with an apologetic grin, all the while shooting the backstage crew from behind the stage exits a pained smile that had "I'm going to give all of you the yelling of a lifetime" vibes.
(I knew it was too good to be true! Where is that snake?!)

Reina smirked as she heard her name being called. This was her cue.
All this past week Reina had been challenging the president to a duel, one final hail mary throw to sink this cursed nonsense of a musical, and every single time Seiko had refused. The president said the matter was settled and there was nothing further to be done, however the situation had now been reversed. Rather than Reina challenging Seiko, Seiko had been put in a position where she would challenge Reina.
Sure, Reina had a flare for the dramatic. But despite having a world famous actress for a sister, Reina wasn't exactly the best of singers. She was passable, but a bit monotone and nasal as she stood up, a smug smirk on her face and began to sing.
"Oh chairman, you do me an honor. To be the girl that you will choose, To save the true love of these lovers So tell me, how can I refuse?
If you win they stay home, If you lose they will go on to Europe Spread their lovesick syndrome With their love as sweet as pancake syrup
I feel quite overswept But I won't dive under the covers To your challenge, I accept And I'll win for these two star-crossed lovers!"
Reina smiled as her duel disk buzzed to life and she turned to face her opponent. She spoke in a lower voice, so the audience couldn't hear but Seiko definitely could. "Well Seiko, how's it feel to be the villain this time around eh? You've been dodging my challenges all week long this week. 'Wah, I'm tired! Wah! We've got sets to build!' Well now you're cornered and the duel is on. Checkmate, I believe is the term. If yo refuse, you'll be letting down everyone here."
Reina gave a smug smile, waiting to see her opponent's reaction
Seiko's expression soured as Reina entered the stage. Of course this was a trick: someone couldn't let it go that she wasn't getting her way, and now she's caught in the spider's web. "Reina, what the hell are you doing?! This wasn't in their submitted script!" she scolded the vice president in a hushed growl. She began to realize her biggest miscalculation: when it came to getting even, Reina wasn't shy of getting creative. Tweaking the script to get her to agree to a Duel in front of a crowd definitely was right up her alley. (That's odd, though. Reina detests the very idea of school plays in the first place. Obviously she's doing this because she's fed up with me turning her down, but...)
Seiko opened her mouth to protest, but was silenced before she could speak by the excitement of the crowd. A fourth wall break showing a Duel between the president and VP of the student council was ever-so-tempting to behold, and even those uninterested in the play seemed to be completely engaged by the development. Seiko's worried frown scanned the crowd as she clutched the clipboard close to her chest. (As much as I hate to admit it, she's right: saying no would definitely ruin the ending. If this is for the betterment of this play... Then I have no choice but to play along.)
Sighing softly and adjusting her glasses, her sapphire gaze fixed itself on Reina with a drive that veiled the message "I hate you right now". She then turned back to the crowd, nodded, and motioned with the clipboard for the theater member in the back to put down his cue cards.
"I must admit that you've never quit, And I can't imagine how petty you can get. And by luring me here to the spotlight this year, It's quite the impressive trap you've set."
"You're testing my patience with your unending arrogance, Because I'm the rival you chase. And surrounded by cheers from all of my peers, It's time that I put you in your place."
Seiko opted to dramatically remove the formal jacket, tossing it aside to the audience's overwhelming cheers of excitement. A small smirk grew on her face, almost as if to say "two can play at that game".
"To risk sounding premature and get into character, To you all, I'm sorry to say, Despite their devotion, with her as their champion?! 'True love' cannot win any day!"
"Forget the petition, heed this premonition, My one true goal is to crush your Dark Magicians! You made your decision, now welcome to my dominion..."
"...And let's all find out if you've even got any conviction." Seiko spat the last line with a bit of sass, bringing her left arm up and leveling her Duel Disk horizontally with the clipboard being tossed from her right. Paradoxically, Seiko seemed like she was trying to cause even more hype to surround this challenge. Perhaps even trying to one-up Reina at her own game. A mind game for the match that she could have said no to? Fortunately the president had at least four shots of espresso before coming to the theater, meaning that focus wasn't scarce to come by now.
"Solid Vision integration: engage! Prepare for Duel Mode... Oh, and hopefully you memorized more than just that one string of witty banter, or this might backfire horribly against you, my friend.~"

Reina scowled at her opponent as her duel disk came to life and she drew the top five cards of her deck. "You talk a big game and you've won plenty of our practice duels, but when I crush you here I'm sure that'll shut you up for good!"
Reina cleared her throat and smiled, almost sincerely. It was a crude, bizarre-looking smile like an alien trying to imitate real human emotion but not quite getting there. A smile didn't seem right on Reina's face.
She sang upbeat and quick, like a vaudeville character or one from an old-time 1920's black and white movie.
"I drew my hand, my thinking slowed. Played Magician's Rod in Attack Mode! Let's go and search a card tonight!"
An astral form of a spellcaster emerged on Reina's field, holding only the signature weapon of the Dark Magician, his staff. When Magician's Rod was summoned, Reina could pick up a card she wanted and she knew just the one to pick.
"Magician's Circle comes up next A ghastly card with a perplexing hex! Your cards will vanish out of sight!"
With a flick of her wrist she slapped down the card she selected with Magician's Rod, Magician's Circle. While it could help banish one of Seiko's cards it was a good opener for another reason too.
"But that's not all my card can do Pick up three cards, add one just for you Eternal Soul, now I approve!"
She picked up her top three cards, then added Eternal Soul to her hand. Notably, it seemed she set a card that was certainly not the Eternal Soul she had just picked up.
"Set one card on my main phase Now show your cards, you vast disgrace! My turn is done, it's now your move!"
Reina smirked at her opponent as her turn came to an end, one monster on the field, one Magician's Circle face up and one mysterious facedown card. What happened next though, caused Reina's mood to immediately sour. The crowd laughed, clapped and cheered at her little performance. The smile and upbeat attitude were gone, immediately replaced with Reina's signature scowl.
"Just take your turn already Seiko." she growled. "The sooner I beat you the sooner we can end this stupid little show."
"Um... Y-You know that was just supposed to be a taunt, right? You're not actually going to rhyme the entire time, are you?" Seiko muttered with a stunned smile. As much as she did stir the pot with her response to the challenge, seeing Reina so enthusiastic made her feel... Happy? Could a rival be happy that their adversary appears to be enjoying themselves? "...Well, if you're doing it, I'll follow suit! Without that coherency, this scene's point is moot... Heh.~"
So far, Reina's opening turn just seemed like playing through a lackluster hand. Then again... The two had dueled enough times to know that Reina's first turn was never an indicator of how much of a fight she could put up. Dark Magician received so much support to the point that their game plan was unpredictable when you're not given so much information on what they're aiming for. Then again, Seiko had a hunch as to what Reina was aiming for: an offensive approach that didn't involve the Battle Phase. Blue-Eyes was an archetype that excelled at blasting right through weaker monsters like the regal beast it was, and the vice president likely knew that well. Luckily for Seiko, her starting hand had incredible versatility for such a brick-prone Deck: two copies of The Melody of Awakening Dragon, The White Stone of Ancients, Majesty with Eyes of Blue, and her ace monster: Blue-Eyes Alternative White Dragon.
"I want to throw up from what I just saw... Now watch how a real Duelist begins! Draw!!"
Seiko pulled her first card from the Deck, glancing back at it: Dragon Spirit of White. Useful, but not that useful without a board to work off of. Already Seiko had a plan for how to fortify her defenses as well as potentially outplay Reina in one shot. They were on the spot now, and she had no intention of losing, play be damned.
"I can tell by the looks on our spectators' faces, With turns like that, they'll quickly get bored. But when I activate 'The Melody of Awakening Dragon', They'll stand up and cheer for this power chord!" the president declared, swiping her card down onto her field with a nod as the Solid Vision musician appeared and strummed up a storm. The audience cheered as if the play had suddenly become a concert.
"By discarding 'The White Stone of Ancients', I'd get rid of those thoughts of braggin', 'Cuz here go your hopes of winning with Blue-Eyes White and Alternative Dragon! But don't rest easy yet, I understand the future tears, Because by revealing White Dragon, my ace monster appears!"
"I Special Summon Blue-Eyes Alternative White Dragon!!"
In a flash of bright white, a roar echoes through the playhouse as Seiko's ace monster materialized into existence and coiled around its master. The awesome beast's piercing blue gaze wasn't just for style, as 3000 Attack Points made it even more threatening. She smirked knowingly, feeling accomplished that she was able to bring out her trump card first- as expected.
"I bet you're regretting challenging me now, Seeing this beast so frightening... But things will only get worse! Attack! Destroy that Rod with Alternative Lightning!!" she commanded, sweeping her arm forward as Blue-Eyes Alternative White Dragon swirled its massive form upwards charging up a devastating beam from its maw. The burning light engulfed Magician's Rod, obliterating it and sending shockwaves out to strike Reina.
REINA: 8000 LP >>> 6600 LP
"I'm not satisfied with that feeble attack. I won't stop until the Spellcaster in black- Feels the sensation of sharp jaws that snap... Now I'll end my turn with one Spell or Trap..." Seiko boasted, placing Majesty with Eyes of Blue face-down. In case Reina got any funny ideas of trying to beat over Alternative White Dragon with a stronger monster, she could silence it before she was vulnerable. The idea of her bringing out Eternal Soul was frightening, but unbeknownst to Reina, Duel Monsters was kind in granting her a card similar in strength...
Of course, the card was 'True Light'. Where the Dark Magician had 'Eternal Soul' to give it shelter from card effects, 'True Light' prevented targeting from monster effects. A slightly inferior protective power, but still a welcome boost to the Blue-Eyes' power. There was no use boasting at the moment: dealing damage on her first turn wasn't anything to celebrate. Getting hung up over a small victory like this would just make losing it more painful: and judging from the past dozen competitions, Reina always had something up her sleeve until her very last point.
"Or perhaps not! I'll push on with no need to yield! During my End Phase, my stone adds a Blue-Eyes monster to the field!"
Post by Reina Legionnaire on Oct 23, 2021 1:06:29 GMT
Seiko and Reina had dueled many times in the past. They had gone from the days of Magical Dimension and The Flute of Summoning Dragon to the versions of their decks they had played today. She had seen the days when Alternate White Dragon would use its effect then be used as fuel for a Synchro or an Xyz summon.
Against a normal opponent Reina wouldn't have let that attack connect, but Seiko was no normal opponent for Reina.
Reina still cautiously surveyed the room, like a boxer studying her opponent. When the end phase came up and Reina was in the clear however, she revealed her trap.
"Time to face my retaliation!" Activate trap! Magician's Navigation! I summon my ace, the Dark Magician! But he won't be alone on this summoning mission! Here's Dark Magician Girl, my wizard's apprentice And what happens next will be monumentous Dark Magical Circle activates at my Dark Magic Welcome Wagon! So say goodbye to your little Blue Eyes Alternate-"
Reina paused to consider the field. The move seemed so simple at first. Clear the field of her monsters, but with her White Stone of Legend it seemed Seiko had a new threat on the field. Reina surveyed her hand and surveyed her grave and looked over the field once, twice, and one more time for good measure.
The crowd was not amused. They began to whisper and murmur their discontent. Reina growled as she quickly thought of a plan.
"You can keep your dragon but you won't keep your backrow But since I activated my Circle we'll continue the magic show! I use the effect of Magician's Rod from my graveyard It lets me bring him back to my hand at the cost of a spellcaster card. A quick exit from Dark Magician Girl, but I'm sure she'll return And with the end of the end of your end phase I declare, it's now my turn!"
Reina drew her top most card, but she already had a plan brewing.
"Magician's Rod hits the field and now you'll start to worry An encore presentation now as you'll soon see my fury I may not tell what card I picked, now that would be imprudent Instead I'll show you what I grabbed, it's Bond Between Teacher and Student!"
In a quick motion Magician's Rod emerged but Reina was already thinking three steps ahead on how to clear Seiko's field. Her spell card would allow not only a new Dark Magician Girl on the field, but it would also let her bring a powerful support card to the field.
"I get back Dark Magicial Girl but she didn't come alone I get spells and magic blasts while you get dragons from your Stone. Dark Burning Attack will get rid of your pair of Blue Eyes And now you'll face off against my spellcaster allies!"
But before she could declare her attack it seemed Seiko had a card to chain. Deep-Eyes White Dragon emerged from Seiko's hand, and Reina took 1800 points of damage, 600 for every dragon in Seiko's grave.
REINA: 6600 LP >>> 4800 LP
And to make matters worse, Reina couldn't destroy Deep-Eyes without getting hit back and losing all monsters she controlled. So Reina was back to pretty much where this turn began, facing down a monster much stronger then what she had on the field.
The crowd was in hushed silence. On the one hand, Reina was a huge jerk. On the other, she was playing the "good guy" to Seiko's villain.
Reina took a breath, partly annoyed and partly impressed. Seiko always knew how to push her.
"It's never easy Seiko, but I never say never Cause the tricks that I do are ever so clever. You may think your Blue Eyes make you holy and pious But my eyes are better, cause I play the Eye of Timaeus!"
The Dark Magician was absorbed in light, his sceptor turning into a blade and a more warrior-like spellcaster stood in his place.
"Five hundred for every dragon isn't as cool as six. But my Dark Magician here's learned a new bag of tricks. He's now the Dark Paladin and he's ready for war And with his Shadowless Slash he'll even the score Your Deep Eyes dragon may give my effect destruction a rattle But there's nothing on your card about being destroyed by battle!"
Reina pointed dramatically as her Battle Phase began.
"Dark Paladin! Split her dragon correctly!"
SEIKO: 8000 >>> 6100
"Magician Girl! Magician's Rod! Attack Seiko's life points directly!"
SEIKO: 6100 >>> 2200
In one quick turn Reina had gone from losing badly to being in the lead. She had three monsters on the field and she could negate spells with her Paladin's ability.
"I'll set two spells or traps and just end it here Now let's go 'President' before I end your career"
Reina gave a toxic smirk as her turn came to an end. She only had one card left in hand, but she was confident her spells and traps could disrupt any of Seiko's plans if the president was building a comeback. Her plan was working perfectly and soon Seiko would be humiliated in front of the entire student body.
"Wrong move, since now you'll have to deal with this! Fear the dragon that dwells in the abyss!"
"Go! Blue-Eyes Abyss Dragon!!"
Soaring in from the depths of a sparking navy abyss that had materialized on the floor, Blue-Eyes Abyss Dragon roared in protest against Reina's field. Its form was a beautiful kind of grotesque, resembling a creature of the deep with its lankier form in comparison to the might of the standard Blue-Eyes White Dragon. Nonetheless, its majestic, regal appearance was unmistakable for its kind. Reina's response had banished her Majesty of Blue Eyes, but in return, Blue-Eyes Abyss Dragon's ability was able to trigger.
"Let this card be a sign of a dour situation, Since now I can add to my hand- Polymerization!" Seiko declared, snatching up the card dispensed from the middle of her Deck to her hand. However, she was far from done. Recovery wasn't her Deck's strong point, but she had a few cards that could salvage a dire situation.
"A crying shame you're in for stormy skies, Since during my End Phase, I get another Blue-Eyes! For victory here, no price is too steep, But this one's free! Eyes of the deep!" the 'chairman' skillfully played, adding another trump card to her arsenal. The plan was simple: if her dragons were not enough of a wall, then Deep-Eyes would punish the attempt to seal them six feet under with a heap of damage. Grunting and swiping her hand in front of her, Seiko signaled the end of her turn with a small heel turn. She paced back away from Reina, chuckling.
(...I think I'm starting to figure something out about Reina here. Judging from those reactions, the crowd's got high hopes for her. It does make sense, after all! A chairman was a great role for me to play, and naturally I'd pick it up to keep the show going if it meant it went well. And the chairman losing is all part of the script, so me winning isn't going to go so well! The added pressure is designed to psyche me out so she can swindle a victory. Unless...)
A mischievous smirk appeared on her face. (If it's a villain she wants, then it's a villain she'll get! I've never tried playing the serious one with the upper hand! People thought Mr. Seto Kaiba was like that to the only rival worth his time: Yugi Moto! I couldn't possibly hope to compete with his swagger and style, but I can certainly try!~)
As her entire field was wiped from Dark Burning Attack, Seiko grunted and dropped to a knee shooting Reina a daring grin as the crowd's "oohs" and "ahhs" filled the room. She slowly rose to her feet with a steadily growing laugh. It was unsettling to hear: like a switch had been flipped in her head to let it loose. She wasn't much of a thespian star, but if it meant catching Reina off-guard, then it was the perfect time to show off her improv skills.
"Heh... Haha! HA HA HA! You think THAT was enough to stop me?! You're an even bigger fool than I thought! Forget the word play and the fancy parlor tricks: my sole interest is preserving the sanctity of our beloved tournament! And sadly for Romeo and Juliet here, they chose a third-rate Duelist with a fourth-rate Deck as their sacrificial lamb!~" she taunted Reina with a wicked smirk, the stage lights catching off of her glasses as she plucked a card from her hand and slapped it down onto her Duel Disk. "Then observe how a truly powerful duelist plays, and realize how hopelessly outmatched you are! When you destroyed my Blue-Eyes monster with Dark Burning Attack, you've allowed me to summon another testament to the perfection that is Blue-Eyes! Obey me, my monster, and together we shall dominate!"
"I summon Deep-Eyes White Dragon!!"
From the scattered dust left from the magic attack, a new, powerful beast had formed itself into existence like a supernova. The dragon appeared before the crowd's shocked gasps and shouts like a Biblically accurate angel, horrific yet awe-inspiring. And while its 0 Attack points were surprising...
"Now watch and weep as your superior demolishes you for that careless mistake, you fool! I activate Deep-Eyes White Dragon's special ability! When it's summoned, you take damage equal to the number of Dragon-type monsters with different names in my Graveyard times 600! An embarassment of a Duelist like yourself can do simple math, right?! Because that's 1800 points of damage coming your way! White Lightning Channel!" she cried out, gesturing forward for Deep-Eyes White Dragon to attack with a ferocious blast.
REINA: 6600 LP >>> 4800 LP
"Furthermore, Deep-Eyes White Dragon gains the Attack points of a Dragon-type monster in my Graveyard! It's only fitting that my monster remains supreme in its offensive power. By choosing Blue-Eyes Alternative White Dragon, its attack points soar to 3000!" she declared with a cocky sneer. Her gambit seemed to have paid off: with each play, the crowd was getting more riled up by her display of regal arrogance. To Seiko, this performance was as much revenge as it was a satire of her vice president.
As Reina continued her turn, Deep-Eyes White Dragon was destroyed by her Fusion Summoned Dark Paladin packing a whopping 4900 Attack points. The successive attacks from Magician's Rod and Dark Magician Girl made Seiko dramatically backpedal and stoop to one knee again, and soon some members of the audience who had been deterred by Seiko's display were beginning to chant and cheer for Reina. Seiko smiled, although it wasn't because she thought it fun: it meant that the plan brewing in her head was working. Something Reina valued a lot was being above others in some way, in that she was unique...
"Ngh... I'll admit that even broken clocks are right twice a day. But if you think you're right about beating me, you're no broken clock, because that's never going to happen! I'm about to show you all why I am the prestigious chairman of this committee, and why delinquents like you have no place in our prestigious institution! I draw!" she shouted in response, slipping another card out from her Duel Disk in a dramatic fashion. She even earned a few boos for that one. Just as planned.
One for One was her draw. While it was convenient to get out decent monsters, in order for this gambit to work, she needed bigger and badder. No time like the present to try and bring out the most menacing dragon in her Extra Deck. "In case you forgot that little tune my musician strummed up for us a while ago, here it is again: The Melody of Awakening Dragon! I discard One for One: forget it! Only a weak duelist relies on the pitiful efforts of the few to topple the mighty! With it, I add Blue-Eyes White Dragon and Blue-Eyes Alternative White Dragon to my hand!"
This time around, the guitarist received no such applause. More booing came in. It hurt a bit to hear her peers booing, but all could be salvaged at the end. (This is just a play, Seiko... This is your role. If it means Little Miss Roadblock here learns not to pull unwanted surprises in events she shouldn't have stuck her nose in, then waiting for this to be cleared up is all part of the glory! Go further: go even more elite!~) she coached herself before snatching a card dispensed from her Graveyard. "Furthermore, I banish The White Stone of Ancients from my Graveyard to add another Blue-Eyes Alternative White Dragon to my hand! I'll summon one of them by revealing Blue-Eyes White Dragon in my hand, but it won't be here for long..."
Her ace monster circled back around its master once more, only for Seiko's next card to dissolve it into a flash of cyan spinning around in a circle at her feet. Two other bright lights generated in her hand, leaving and circling again beneath her. The rotation became faster and faster, until the circle slid out from under her and opened up what appeared to be a brilliant white portal in the floor. "I activate my Spell Card, Polymerization! Witness the might of my dragons in their strongest form yet! Your pitiful attempt at a strategy was wasted, and only led to your defeat at the hands of the strongest dragon in existence! Activate your Eternal Soul, you weak-willed coward: I know you have it! But it won't save you one bit!"
A bluff, but one well worth it when it was revealed that Reina did have Eternal Soul set in her backrow. Another Dark Magician materialized to guard Reina, but at this point Seiko wasn't concerned by it. If anything, it made her life easier. "I fuse Blue-Eyes Alternative White Dragon and two Blue-Eyes White Dragons!"
"Blue-Eyes Alternative Ultimate Dragon!!!"
With a blinding flash, Seiko's ultimate monster had appeared on the field. The Blue-Eyes Alternative White Dragon held a special place in her heart, and Blue-Eyes Alternative Ultimate Dragon was testament to that. In fact? Its full potential was sealed unless one Fusion Summoned it with a Blue-Eyes Alternative White Dragon. Its three heads and scaly body roared and writhed respectively in rage having unlocked its true power. Seiko followed up her summon with a haughty laugh, allowing her hair to tangle slightly and her bangs to fall over her face with a wild look. A grin remained on her face.
"What's the matter?! Did you bite off more than you can chew with those pathetic Dark Magicians?! Those cards can't possibly beat something as awesome as my ultimate creation! It's hopeless to continue, and I'll show you why! I activate Blue-Eyes Alternative Ultimate Dragon's effect! I can target and destroy one card you control... Unless, of course, it was Fusion Summoned with 'Blue-Eyes Alternative White Dragon' as material! And look at that: it has! Now it can destroy three cards you control! I'll choose Dark Paladin, Dark Magical Circle, and..."
"...Eternal Soul.~"
The crowd gasped. Eternal Soul came with the drawback of a complete wipe of Reina's monster zones if it connected. She waved her finger tauntingly at Reina as Dark Burning Magic was chained in an attempt to destroy her dragon. "I guess some lousy duelists never learn, do they? Blue-Eyes Alternative Ultimate Dragon can't be targeted or destroyed by your card effects! I would say 'nice try', but that was a laughable attempt! You're going to lose, and those poor, poor star-crossed lovers won't be together because your worthless magicians can't get their act together! A shame, really..."
"But as the chairman, I couldn't care less. Go, Blue-Eyes Alternative Ultimate Dragon! Alternative Neutron Blast!!~" she declared, shattering the declared cards and completely wiping Reina's field. The vast majority of the crowd was now booing and chanting against Seiko, whose heel maneuver had been a success. The sound of it practically broke her heart, and it took all of her willpower to keep her composure.
"...Fortunately for you, Blue-Eyes Alternative Ultimate Dragon won't attack when I use that ability. Perhaps it pities you and that stack of junk you call a Deck. Give up while you have dignity, you embarrassment. I refuse to let our tournament be desecrated by your foolishness any longer. Draw your last pathetic card, you washed-up has-been. Not like your adorable Deck can keep up.~"
Seiko prayed that her jabs at the Dark Magicians would spur Reina to defend them, or at least respond back with some wit about their worth. If everything went according to her gamble, she could save that reputation of hers while getting back at Reina at the same time.

Growing up, Reina was always a bit of an angry child. Whether dealing with people or dealing in the game itself, she always had this lingering sense of anger inside her. She had learned to control it for the game, however Seiko could always manage to push her buttons on it. Reina would get aggresive, overextend, and right here she had just experienced a full field wipe, nothing on the board and one card left in hand.
She growled, snarled, was almost shaking with anger but surprisngly people were still cheering for her. She glanced arond, noticing the sets were still up and the 'young couple' of Vaniella and Bolt were looking at her with hope in their eyes. To them, this was still a play afterall.
Reina drew a breath and drew her top card, needing a miracle to pull off a victory. What she got was... almost enough.
"When love's on the line, my deck has no pathetic card."
Reina glanced at the card in hand, just enough to finish it.
"My deck will leave you battle scarred!"
Reina instantly slapped down the card she drew without thinking.
"I activate the spell Magicalized Fusion! Now I'll show you my magical union! Fuse my 5 spellcasters to summon my ace. And we'll send these two love birds to their faraway place!"
Two copies of the Dark Magician Girl, Dark Paladin, Dark Magician, and Magician's Rod were banished, revealing in their place a monster to rival her Alternate Ultimate Dragon
Reina cleared her throat, speaking for once in a long time. "We've always been rivals Seiko, but I'm here to prove to everyone that I'm better than you. Battle Phase!"
"Battle Phase!" This was no longer a sing-song competition. Now it was personal.
The spellcaster raised his wand and the dragon launched a three-tiered multi-headed assault. The two attacks collided in mid-air. Reina glanced at the single card in her hand, ready to play her final card of the game.
"I activate the effect of Apprentice Illusion Magician! With this, a Dark Spellcaster gains 2000 attack points during damage calculations"
The crowd roared with delight at the sudden turn of events, as the Alternate Ultimate Dragon was destroyed, leaving Seiko with only a sliver of life points and one turn to come back from the brink.
SEIKO: 2200 LP >>> 200 LP
At long last, it seemed the world would see what a sham Seiko was, and Reina would finally have proven her superiority over her arch-rival in front of the entire school.
"Your card game's pathetic. My justice is poetic. Me winning, that's genetic. Go on and take your turn
Their love is sympathetic Their sweetness, diabetic You winning? Theoretic. We will not be spurned."
Reina smiled a cruel and wicked smile as her crushing ultimate victory was almost at hand.
For being the "loser" of this Duel, victory never felt so sweet. While her face and tone showed anger and disbelief, inside she was as giddy as a kid in a candy story as to how to respond. Even the thought of losing a fair fight wasn't bothering her, as a lost battle in exchange for two victories was well worth the sacrifice. The audience cheered as Seiko backpedaled away from the fading afterimage of the Blue-Eyes Alternative Ultimate Dragon... But as the student council president listened to Reina's spiel about how great she was doing, her shoulders slumped and her stance weakened: almost as if she was... Intimidated?
No, most certainly not. It was that same look when Seiko had a scheme in the works, and this time it wouldn't end well. "Ngh... Th-This cannot be! That's impossible: no one's ever been able to destroy the Alternative Ultimate Dragon!!"
"So this is it... My final act. The might of dragons has fallen to your tact. With scepter in hand, and a card under your finger, Not a trace of my victory evermore shall linger."
"The Magician of Darkness was more than I could see, In the sense that his Dark Magic Attack spurned me. Perhaps I was wrong, and a fool to have the gall, To tarnish the hero of these two, and us all."
"And if anyone here learns one thing from you, It is that learning from the magicians makes you a hero too. With scepter in hand, a new path you shall burn..."
With a dramatic flourish, Seiko drew her last card of the match. It really didn't matter what it was, considering the circumstances... But how poetic: Destined Rivals, one of the few cards in her Deck that matched both her and her rival's archetypes. While it never showed up in a Duel when she needed it due to only having one copy, drawing it was a relief. Even with her plan to take a dive, this Duel felt like a callback to simpler times. She didn't even set the Trap Card: instead, she held it in her hand, moved her cards up to cover her mouth from the audience's view...
...And she smirked with a mischievous glint in her eyes, which only looked like anger to those who couldn't see her devious smile. Reina couldn't see her card: for all she knew, Seiko drew the perfect card to win with that look on her face. Bluffing her way into a moral victory was her way of an ultimate victory, Life Points aside.
"And to this mystical inspiration, I shall end my turn. Now go on, young magus, and set those lovers free! For at the end of the day, this was more than just you and me.~""
