"That's it? Like... No big boss monster on your first turn? Heh. Alrighty then, more power to me! It's my turn: I draw!~" she boasted, given a huge boost to her confidence by the simplicity of Jinsei's opening turn as she dramatically drew her next card. Edge Imp Scythe was a welcome addition to the hand under normal circumstances, but here it just proved to be a mess. A lot of different cards would have been nice to retrieve instead to un-brick this hand. (Okay, not the best draw. Seems impossible to get something a heck of a lot better out of this... Guess I gotta go with Plan C!)
"Sorry 'bout this, buddy, but I activate Fluffal Bear's effect from my hand!" she declared, revealing the stuffed bear from her hand and inserting it into the Graveyard slot. The huggable giant materialized on her field for a moment in front of a murky purple portal, only to leap into it as a card was dispensed from the middle of her Deck. Marcy snatched the card and threw it down onto her Duel Disk's field, nodding as it phased into view in Solid Vision. "By discarding Fluffal Bear, I can set one Toy Vendor from my Deck directly to my field. But don't get too comfy with that face-down, 'cuz I'm flipping it up right now and activating it!"
"Toy Vendor allows me to discard a card from my hand to draw a new one from my Deck: if it's a Fluffal monster, I can Special Summon it or another Fluffal in my hand to my field! But if it's not, that card gets immediately discarded from my hand! For now, I'm discarding my Edge Imp Sabres to give this puppy a whirl: c'mon, gimme a fuzzy buddy to bring out!" The comically large toy machine appeared to her side, and as soon as Marcy threw her card into its coin slot, the left hand of the machine cranked its own lever. A capsule similar to children's toy machines shot out from its mouth and fizzled upon contact with the ground, revealing her drawn card...
"...Aw man! Frightfur Fusion?! Ugh... Alright, fair's fair. I gotta discard my Frightfur Fusion, too. Can't win 'em all, I guess," she grumbled, slipping her freshly drawn card into the Graveyard as well. That gamble did nothing but thin her Deck ever so slightly, and leave her with an even smaller variety of monsters to summon. Growing impatient from her failed attempt at a recovery and abandoning all sense of caution, she grunted and threw down another card: a rather famous one clad in a red and green spiral pattern.
"Now for my Spell Card, Polymerization! I fuse Fluffal Penguin and Edge Imp Scythe from my hand in order to bring out the softest, scariest sea monster you've ever seen..." she declared, putting every bit of effort into the theatrics of the Duel. Bad as she may be, Marcy did have the appeal of being an entertainer through and through with her matches. "Slice and dice that Penguin, Scythe! I Fusion Summon the mighty tentacled terror, Frightfur Kraken!!"
Fluffal Penguin's image materialized on the field, puzzled and lost, before Edge Imp Scythe's razor-sharp body rammed straight through the plushie's body with a strong force. Stuffing scattered the floor, and after a few more slices engulfing the animal's fabric form, its entire body began to morph and glow in a dull pink light. After a few more moments of transformation, what remained was a horrific amalgamation of its parts sewn and fastened to blades. 2200 Attack Points were more than enough to tear a hole right through Elemental HERO Stratos' 1800 Attack Points, and then some due to its ability to attack twice. (Hmm. I could send Stratos to the Graveyard right now, but then I won't be able to attack directly this turn. I don't really have much else that I can throw at him right now, so I should probably just stick with that until I get Fluffal Wings to replenish my hand!)
"But if you think my cute, cuddly monsters are done when they're all torn up, you've got another thing comin'! I activate Fluffal Penguin's effect! When it's used to Fusion Summon a Frightfur monster, I can draw two cards for my hand, then discard one of my held cards! Let's see what fate has in store for me... HYAH!" she shouted, once again drawing with flair. Fluffal Dog and Frightfur March were added to the hand: perfect! The former could search out Fluffal Wings, while the latter could protect Frightfur Kraken from a Spell/Trap or monster effect and allow her to pivot into her ace, Frightfur Sabre-Tooth!
"Awesome! I'll discard Fluffal Sheep in exchange for the draws. Thanks, Penguin! Now... I'll set one card in my backrow, then enter the Battle Phase! And that's bad news for you, 'cuz Frightfur Kraken can attack twice every Battle Phase: one for each big blade! Tear into Elemental HERO Stratos with your first attack, Kraken! Seam Reaver!~" Masumi cheered, pointing forward as her Frightfur Kraken wound one of its mighty claws back, raring and ready to slice and dice into its adversary.
“Afraid no big plays right out of the gate, Miss Sakamoto. But no worries, my boys will be just fine.” Jinsei simply nodded with a smile as he awaited to see what sort of moves the girl would pull off. She seemed super excited even before the duel had truly begun, so he was expecting that same energy to be constant in their game. It was a bit infectious, he came to find out, as he couldn’t stop the light smile that played on his face.
“Whoaaaa, pretty sweet moves, Marcy.” Watching the card combo at work caused his eyes to widen with awe, impressed at the flow of the moves and the synergy of the cards. Everything he had heard about the Fluffals and Frightfurs seemed to be spot on and he was glad that he had the chance to play against them! The fusion play was fantastic as Frightfur Kraken took center stage and prepared its attack upon Stratos. But Jinsei wouldn’t let that go through so easily. “Nice try, but my Hero won’t be going down so easily. I activate the effect of this guy right here from my hand.” He then revealed Elemental HERO Honest Neos.
“Honest Neos allows me to discard him to the GY in order to give one of his fellow HERO’s a 2500 attack point boost, giving Stratos enough juice to not only survive Kraken’s attack, but destroy it. Counterattack with Heroic Wind Storm, Stratos!” A golden glow enveloped Stratos that blocked Kraken’s blade attack and then he began his charge to aim its wind attack in retaliation in order to destroy the fusion monster and hopefully get rid of it from the field...

As the golden glow repelled Kraken's attack, Masumi's heart sank and she cringed. Uh oh: a Quick Effect from the hand, and one that would pack a punch no less! Her mind began racing as Stratos' Attack Points skyrocketed to 4300. (Shoot, he saw that one coming! I don't have a way to dodge the damage, but at least I can keep a 3000 Defense Point shield in front of me!) she reasoned, confirming her response in her Duel Disk just as the wind strike hit its mark and kicked up a cloud of dust concealing both duelist and monster...
MASUMI: 8000 LP >>> 5900 LP
"...Phew. Close call there."
The dust separated, revealing Frightfur Kraken safe and sound. "Turns out that Fluffal Penguin isn't the only monster helping out post-Fusion! Just as that attack landed, I activated Edge Imp Scythe's effect from my Graveyard. Once per turn, I can banish it from my Graveyard to protect a Frightfur monster from being destroyed by battle or card effect. I still take damage, but my monster's not going anywhere!" she declared as she swiped her hand down to her side striking a defiant pose. Not a great start- and definitely not a good position to be in considering she only had one card left in her hand, but at least her field had some protection out in the form of Frightfur March?
"Since Elemental HERO Stratos is too strong to attack now, I won't use Kraken's second attack. But, by ending my battle phase, I can change Frightfur Kraken to Defense Position since it attacked this turn! Honest Neos' attack buff only lasts until the end of this turn, so Stratos has nothin' on me during your turn!~" Marcy continued, smirking thanks to her own quick thinking to protect her Fusion Monster. Frightfur Sabre-Tooth needed a Frightfur Fusion monster to be summoned regardless, so even if Kraken couldn't prove useful offensively, it could at least lead into something grand given the chance. "With that, I end my turn. Nice save, but that won't save you for long!~"

It seemed like Kraken was here to stay, due to the effect of Edge Imp Scythe from beyond the grave, banishing itself to protect its brethren from destruction. “Not a bad play, Marcy. The way your monsters have each other's backs is cool.” But despite the compliment, Jinsei now had a beefy shield to get over in order to continue dealing damage. Once Marcy had ended her turn, the young man nodded and glanced down at his hand. A couple of plays came to mind, but more could spring forth depending on what he drew. “You have a point...so I guess I’ll just need to crank things up. My turn, draw!”
Drawing Neo Spacian Air Hummingbird, Jinsei figured one of his go-to plays should do the trick here. “Let’s start things off by summoning Vision HERO Vyon in attack mode. WIth Vyon’s effect, I send a HERO monster from my deck to the grave and the one I choose is Elemental HERO Shadow Mist!” Searching his deck for the mentioned card, Jinsei slides it into the GY. “Now, Shadow Mist’s effect activates, allowing me to grab another HERO from the deck and add it to my hand. You’re up, Elemental HERO Liquid Soldier!” While having his deck in his hand, he reveals the card to Marcy before shuffling the deck and adding the water monster to his hand.
“You started the Fusion party, so I’ll keep it going. I too activate Polymerization, fusing Vyon and Liquid Soldier. With them being different attributes, it allows me to Fusion Summon: Elemental HERO Sunrise!” After the two monsters glowed and swirled together, a large red armored warrior stood in their place. “Due to my friend’s ability, all monsters I control gain an extra 200 attack points for every different Attribute that are present. That’s not all, for I can grab Miracle Fusion from my deck and add it to my hand. However, the combo continues! Liquid Soldier’s effect pops off when he’s used as Fusion Material, giving me two new cards to draw at the cost of one discard.”
After Jinsei drew two cards, he decided to discard Neo Spacian Aqua Dolphin before Miracle Fusion was added to his hand. The two new cards were Neos Fusion and Neos himself, causing Jinsei’s smile to widen a bit more to see his pal. “Now, I’ll activate Miracle Fusion to fuse Vyon and Liquid Solder from the GY, banishing them to Fusion Summon: Elemental HERO Absolute Zero!” A chilling wind enveloped the field as the newly formed caped warrior made its appearance. With Sunrise’s ability and three different Attributes present, it stood at a massive 2900 attack, Stratos had 2200, and Absolute Zero stood on top with 3100. While Marcy’s face down card presented a problem, Jinsei knew that he had to go on the attack and felt confident that he could do so.
“Absolute Zero, destroy Frightful Kraken with Freezing Shards. However, Sunrise got your back, as I activate his ability! When a battle happens that involves another HERO monster, Sunrise can destroy a card on the field. And I chose your face down card, Marcy!” A bright golden beam would shoot out from Sunrise’s eyes, destroying the card as Absolute Zero succeeds in destroying Kraken. “Keep up the tempo, you two! Attack Marcy directly!” Stratos and Sunrise attacked in unison, bringing the girl down to her final 400 Life Points.
“I’ll end things there. This party’s getting crazy and I love it. Let’s keep dancing, Marcy.”

"I-I activate- Wait, WHAT?!" Marcy cried out in surprise, recoiling back as her facedown card was destroyed. Frightfur March could only activate if her monster was targeted: not her Spell or Trap cards. Therefore, as the card was incinerated by the bright lights, Frightfur Kraken let out a dying mewl as what was once torn apart had been sundered in two again. She couldn't even rest easy with the knowledge that her opponent was out of tricks, as he had drawn even more cards to compensate for the resources consumed. She let out a startled cry as Stratos and Sunrise descended upon her for direct attacks.
MASUMI: 5900 LP >>> 400 LP
Her apprehension towards the Solid Vision projections sent her stumbling back, and given the fact that she was not the most coordinated person, she tripped over her own heel and fell onto her rear. "Ngh! Urgh... So much for my big turnaround..." Masumi groaned, pushing herself back up and biting the inside of her cheek with a troubled scowl. Whatever semblance of a strategy she was crafting had officially jumped ship, as if it was knocked right out of her head when she hit the floor. (Not good, not good! Unless I draw some sort of godsend, I'm a sitting duck! I need something good. Like Fluffal Wings... Or was it Fluffal Dolphin? Shoot, I dunno, I dunno!!)
"I'm still in this thing... C'mon, gimme something I can use! Draw!" Marcy declared with another dramatic motion for her draw... Revealing she pulled Patchwork Fluffal. It was great for cheesing out things like Frightfur Leo, but given that she had no way to fuse, it made her heart sink. "Wait! I'm still in this: I summon Fluffal Dog in Attack Mode! When this lovable little critter hits the field, I can get any Fluffal I want- or even Edge Imp Sabres- from my Deck! And the card I choose is... Fluffal Bear!"
As Fluffal Dog bounded onto the playing field with an adorable look in his eyes, he spat out a card that spun into Masumi's hand. She smirked, thinking herself clever for getting herself a card she could actually use... Or so she thought. "And just like before, I discard my Fluffal Bear to set another Toy Vendor directly from my Deck: I'll just activate that now, please and thank you! But here comes my comeback story, because right after that, I choose to send my Patchwork Fluffal from my hand back to the top of my Deck to summon Edge Imp Sabres from my Graveyard! Now we're talkin'!~" she cheered enthusiastically, her hands moving quickly to keep up the pace of her plays. A machinated fiend emerged from her Graveyard, snipping and glaring a deep crimson ahead.
"And now, it's time to roll the dice again! I activate Toy Vendor's effect! By discarding one card from my hand-"
...
. . .
"...O-Oh. I, uh... Have no more cards in my hand."
. . .
"...W-Well, shoot. I, uh... End my turn, I guess? A-Ah ha ha... Aw, crackers, I goofed it up again!" she moped with a sigh. Pulling Fluffal Bear was a misplay: Fluffal Wings would have been just fine, since then she could have not summoned Edge Imp Sabres and sent it to the Graveyard for Toy Vendor's effect. Not only that, but Fluffal Wings had the unique trait where it could get her up to three more cards- one of her choosing due to Toy Vendor's Graveyard effect- to make a comeback. In her rush to gamble, she hadn't bothered to ensure that her bank wouldn't dry up right before taking a chance. That misplay was a rookie maneuver, especially for someone that seemed somewhat familiar with Fluffals and their effects.
"I mean, I guess I could Link Summon, but I've got nothing that can resist an attack on your turn. Geez, can't believe this happened again! I-I end my turn..."
Post by Jinsei Terumi on Sept 1, 2021 17:35:50 GMT
Despite the huge play that he just pulled off, Jinsei wanted to see if Marcy was able to make a comeback and turn this around. He always enjoyed seeing the duel lasting as long as it could, so that both sides could have the most fun possible. Dominating your foes and going for the quick finish wasn’t always his go-to tactics, but sometimes you can’t help how the cards play out. Nevertheless, he awaited Marcy’s turn as she drew her card and began her marvelous comeback with her Fluffals and Frightfurs!
...Or at least that's what he thought would happen.
Getting a bit excited and misplaying your cards was a common thing that happened in duels and he was prone to them as well. But it was always interesting when they happened and saw how the opponent reacted to them and Marcy performed cutely. “Hey, it happens to the best of us. No use in fretting over it, I say. Just learn from it and keep having fun. Alright, my turn...draw!” Drawing his card and seeing his second copy of Aqua Dolphin, Jinsei smiled softly and decided to bring things to a close. “I activate my spell card, Neos Fusion. I can send Neos and another monster from my hand, field, or Deck to the GY to Special Summon a Fusion Monster. So, I send the Neos in my hand along with my Rainbow Dragon from my Deck to summon Rainbow Neos!”
A massive beam of light came crashing down from the skies and once it died down; the massive winged warrior stood at the ready, over towering the other HERO monsters. Thanks to Sunrise’s effect, Rainbow Neos stood at a mighty 5100 attack points. “I’ll use Rainbow Neos’ ability: sacrificing Stratos in order to return all of your monsters back to your Deck. Go, Beyond the Rainbow!” A multi-colored aura began to lift from the warrior’s body and enveloped Marcy’s side of the field, returning Fluffal Dog and Edge Imp Sabres back to her Deck.
“Time for the finale. Rainbow Neos, attack Marcy directly! Rainbow Flare Stream!” Upon command, Rainbow Neos unleashed a massive torrent of multicolored flame at the girl, depleting her Life Points to 0, giving Jinsei the victory. As the holograms faded away, Jinsei straightened his hat and smiled over to Marcy. “And there we go, thank you for an amazing duel, Marcy. I feel that if the misplay didn’t happen, you could’ve come roaring back at me. Nevertheless, your friends are really something else, so don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.” He grinned, walking closer to her and extended a hand out.

The part where Jinsei cleared her monsters out felt a bit too much like insult to injury there. (Come on, dude: they're right there! Literally nothing I have is gonna stop an attack from any of your Fusion Monsters: totally overkill!) she mentally moped, using her arm to shield her eyes from the bright lights created by the Solid Vision system. The following flames made her flinch as well, prompting her to back up again... Aaand trip once more. How graceful of a defeat.
MASUMI: 400 LP >>> 0 LP
As the LOSE indicator spun into view over her Life Point counter, the Solid Vision images of the HEROs faded from view. "Urgh... Th-That's 0-6 for today..." she mumbled, taking Jinsei's hand and pulling herself back to her feet with a sigh. Bitterness was far from what was on her mind, but boy did losses suck. "Your HERO monsters are something else, I'll tell you that. I just got steamrolled by 'em," Masumi replied with an awkward scratching to the back of her head. Sure, none of her Duels today really mattered all that much in the long run, but to end on a sour note like that felt like a disservice to herself.
"Man, I should really figure something out soon. I mean, come on: I took, like, one turn where I could actually do something. I'm kinda stumped, sooo... Got any ideas for me where I could do better besides not counting cards or something?" she posed the follow-up question. Interestingly enough, despite being relatively immature and naive, Masumi was genuinely posing questions about her performance to improve. The inquiry was also posed with the fact that Jinsei also used Fusion Monsters: maybe there were certain cards that just worked better for Fusion Summons that she was clueless about. Regardless, if it was improvement she wanted, the Silvolver first year reasoned that she had to go looking for it through every person she dueled.

0-6 for the day...yeesh. That record couldn’t have been good to experience, but it was like he said: you gotta take the losses as they come to learn from them and become better for the next go-around. It seemed like Marcy was taking things well, so that was good. As he helped the girl up from the floor, Jinsei nodded with a small smile when she made her comment about his monsters. “They are pretty amazing. They work well with my space critters, even though I didn’t get a chance to showcase them this time around.”
When Marcy asked her question, the green haired teen took a moment to cup his chin in thought, formulating an answer. Instead of giving some generic answer to send her on her way, Jinsei decided to just be honest with the reply. “Sometimes, you can get a bit TOO excited with your awesome plays, which can lead to a lot of misplays. There’s nothing wrong with getting hyped about your flow, but there’s also nothing wrong with taking a deep breath and steady your focus to stay on track.” He takes a deep breath, lightly smooshing his face with the exhale, chuckling a bit before he continues.
“Your deck is amazing and can really do some damage, but just keep in mind not to get too ahead of yourself and you’ll be fine. Plus, be mindful of things that could disrupt your combo flow. As a fellow Fusion enthusiast, there’s nothing more that gets me more crunchy than seeing someone stopping me from fusing. So, I guess if I can summarize things: slow down and watch out for disruptions to your combos. Aside from that, I think you’re doing pretty well, Marcy. Just keep at it and never give up.” He gave a peace sign and winked at the girl.

"'A bit too excited'? Pfft! There's no such thing as getting 'a bit too excited', get outta here!~" Marcy dismissed Jinsei's remark with a stifled chuckle and a gentle rejecting wave of her hand. "Might be true for some people, but not for me. The reason I keep Dueling is 'cuz it's tons of fun, and slowing down like that's just not fun! It's, like... If you're riding a roller-coaster, and all of a sudden the car stops going fast down hills because they want you to 'steady your focus'. Or like running next to the pool, minus the part where you slip and fall and hurt yourself really badly. So, like... A really, really cushy floor next to a pool! If you don't run on that, then you're just missing out on the action! You sorta get it, right Jinsei?~"
While her analogy was terrible, Masumi deeply wanted to express how much the concept of slowing down confused and frustrated her. In fact, her 0-6 record for that day took approximately an hour in total to stack up. Her Duels didn't take terribly long, but to find new opponents with such a quick turnaround was the hardest part. As it turns out, not many people could keep up with this human hurricane of hyperactivity. "Note taken on the 'disruption' part, though: I should probably find something to help me out! I try not to change my Deck too much 'cuz that would mean I'd need to take something out to keep it down. I could have more than 40 cards, but then I'd have less of a chance to get what I need when I draw..."
Masumi's mumblings went on and on for that point with verbal affirmation of her thought process, her own counters to her ideas, and the occasional dance along a backtrack or a side topic. To see someone carry on a complete self-conversation at the speed of a rushed teleprompter was nothing short of astounding. "...then there's the problem about dealing with Synchro Monsters, and- ...Oh. I, ah... Too much? Maybe just a little bit? Heh heh, my bad! Sorry, I do that sometimes! Thanks for the Duel!~" she shot back a grin at Jinsei with a peace sign and a hum.
Post by Jinsei Terumi on Sept 19, 2021 5:03:18 GMT
The analogy was a bit off, but Jinsei picked up on what Marcy was trying to say. She wanted to fully immerse herself in each duel she was in and slowing down her play style would go against it...he could understand that. Even he was still a victim of getting a bit ahead of himself due to his HEROs and Neo Spacians doing so well. “Yeah...I do get it, Marcy. A cushy floor next to a pool might be a bit out there, but I get what you’re saying.” The emerald green haired teen laughed lightly.
He could tell that the girl was really trying to improve herself and even though today was a loss for her; he knew that she would go far and was interested in seeing her progress. Growth was important and despite being the winner today; Jinsei was still improving his game and understood that one never stops learning. He allowed Marcy to ramble on for a moment until she caught herself and apologized, causing another laugh to leave his lips. “It’s all good. You’re welcome and let me thank you as well. Every duel I get in, whether win or lose, is always awesome when both sides are enjoying themselves. If you want, let’s do this again sometime.”
With that, Jinsei took out a receipt he had from a purchase earlier that day and scribbled his contact info on the back of it before handing it to Marcy. “Hit me up anytime for a duel, talk shop, or if you need an open ear to vent to because we first years gotta stick together.” And with a tip of his hat and nod, Jinsei turns and leaves to explore what the rest of his day had in store for him
