"FINALLY FOUND IT!"
Oh, if looks could kill, Masumi would be six feet under moments after she threw open the front door to the library. Right: libraries were supposed to be quiet. Unfortunately for her, that was something she was not. Such a bundle of energy and joy hated to be contained. Even so, she recognized that if she wanted to check out the library (and then subsequently never use it again since studying is boring and hard), she would need to keep it down just for the duration of her stay here. "O-Oh, my bad! Totally my fault, sorry-" she began to apologize, only to be met with another harsh chorus of shushes. Even her apology was in a voice much too loud for this place.
(Yikes, that was harsh. Guess some people really wanna have no talking at all... Seems really boring. I can't focus on studying without someone to talk to, so how do they do it?) she questioned mentally to avoid another scolding for opening her mouth. Perhaps it was easier to say on her end considering she almost never studied, unless a coffee-fueled all-nighter before an exam was considered "studying". Sighing quietly and moving right along, she found herself scanning the sections and shelves for anything that caught the eye. Books for both the avid Duelist and the dedicated scholar were abound in this treasure trove of knowledge. Just thinking about how long she would need to be reading to cover everything made her head hurt. (Gah, I'm thinking about this all wrong. Of course a good Duelist's gonna do their research and all, but spending too much time reading's just gonna mean no time to actually practice! The last thing I want is to be one of those snobs that just points out mistakes on the sidelines instead of joining in on the action.)
After a few minutes of pacing the aisles and picking up miscellaneous books only to put them back down without opening them, Masumi's gaze drifted up towards the labels ahead. Some arrows were conveniently set out to guide those lost in the seemingly endless rows and columns of text. (Let's see here... Oh! They have stuff on other Extra Deck things like Xyz and Synchro! Those are probably chock full of pictures: totally a great start to studying up for visual learners! Lucky me!~) Marcy celebrated with a smile and a stifled giggle, starting to carelessly jog over towards the T-branch in the walkway. Both corners were blind for both her and any unfortunate soul who was on the main path: if one thing was constant, it's that her boundless energy had a tendency to result in accidental collisions. This was prime "accident prone" time for her.

Penelope Springs was a duelist in the Legold dorm, while her employer was in Silvolver. While this meant that they didn't always have the same classes together it also meant that their reading assignments were also boldly different. While Penny picked a pack of prose on Polymerization, Melody's manuals were made for modern monsters.
This meant double the work for the diligent butler, carrying both her books as well as Melody's.
"Do not trouble yourself over my accord." she said blankly as she shifted the weight of the 8 or so books currently in her arms. "I should be-"
"FINALLY FOUND IT!"
The sound of the girl erupting with excitement had almost made Penelope drop the books she was carrying in her arms. She stumbled, slipped, but with quick reflexes she managed to catch the books on her knee, balance in place for a second, then center herself and return the books to a better position.
She gave a weak smile, but this was a bit of a point of pride for her. Penelope wanted to appear unshakable and strong, so even though it was a bit of a large stack of books she insisted to Melody that she alone should carry them. What was the point of having a butler if she could only do half the work? Penelope wanted to earn her keep, especially after losing to "an imbecile" with a decktype she was familiar with. This time she'd make Melody proud.
"See, I managed to keep all the books we're carrying intact." she motioned towards the books she was carrying, then regretted it. "It'll take much more than that to make me drop-"
And that was her last words before she suddenly bumped into the brown-haired boundless bundle of bumbling energy that was Masumi Sakamoto. In one quick second, Penelope lost her balance, books went scattered, and the young butler was flat on her back. She stayed still for a moment, comforted only by the sounds of "shushing" of the other library patrons.

Times like this, Melody couldn't help but feel uncomfortable around Penelope.
It wasn't that Melody didn't like her. Far from it. Melody thought Penelope was an amazing girl. Dignified, polite, intelligent, devoted to her work, and not to mention one hell of a duelist.
However, there were two problems with having Penelope as a butler.
1. Having a fellow student working as your butler was really, REALLY awkward. 2. Melody wanted to become more self-sufficient during her stay here at Liberta.
Still, Hershey had sent Penelope to her knowing all this, and Melody trusted Hershey more than anyone in the world. Except maybe her parents.
Besides, Melody could tell that Penelope wanted to be Melody's butler more than anything, and after their duel, Melody would have felt like a right git turning her away.
That being said, there were times when Melody felt that Penelope was trying TOO hard to be useful. Like right now. Melody could tell Penelope was struggling to carry the huge stack of books the two of them had checked out, but was pretending like it was no big deal in order to impress her. Melody appreciated the sentiment, but.....
However, this train of thought was suddenly interrupted by the human sugar rush in the shape of a pretty brown-haired girl who had just crashed into Penelope, sending both butler and books falling to the floor.
Annoyed by this inconsiderate ditz, Melody was about to start chewing her out, but the shushing of the library patrons convinced her otherwise. Instead, she silently helped up Penelope, and then proceeded to pick up their books, all while giving the human sugar rush a patented Luigi Death Stare.

Lo and behold, the universe strikes again by setting Masumi right in the path of Penelope, who had been encumbered by the weight of the books and couldn't sidestep her in time to avoid a collision. The Silvolver freshman let out a surprised yelp as she slammed into the butler (book stack first), causing it to topple over and sending its carter down with it. The impact startled her, but fortunately for her she only backed into the side of a bookshelf, knocking over a row of small paperback books. "GAH! Sorry, I-I didn't see you-!" she blurted out another apology only for the chorus of shushes to return for a third round. This one was much bigger than the first two, causing her to tense her shoulders and wince in surprise. So much for being sorry about volume when she did nothing to fix it...
Looking over to Melody's daggered gaze only confirmed to her that she was the one who slammed into Penelope instead of it being an unfortunate coincidence. She averted her gaze with a small bite of her lower lip, stooping down to attend to Penelope and stack the books the butler dropped. "Shoot, shoot, shoot... Super duper sorry 'bout that, I swear it was an accident! Man, these halls are really cramped: blind corners and everything.... Hm?" Marcy explained in a much quieter murmur, although her natural speaking volume was loud enough for it to sound obnoxious in a library even when she was trying. Her hand passed over a black book with golden trim: one of the books based off of Xyz Summoning that Melody had in the stack. She tilted her head slightly, idly running her finger through the pages to get them to flip one after another in a flourish before stopping near the end. (...Almost no pictures. Geez, reading finds a way to make even Duel Monsters boring. And is this supposed to be Xyz? Isn't it, like... Y'know, just stacking monsters and stuff? Why's it got all this math on this page?) she thought to herself with a puzzled scowl.
"What in the... O-Oh! Whoops, heh! Sorry, I'm a little spacey today's all. The book looks cool, where'd you get it? Not really my thing, but it's neat to see it. Here." Masumi stood up, offering Penelope her hand to try and pull her up. In the meantime, her mind wandered once again to the fallen butler's friend. (Should probably apologize to her, too. I did kinda go steamrolling into them here... Plus, she looks familiar. Maybe we met at the exam or something. Ooh, I was so nervous I don't remember anyone from there! There goes whatever great first impression Past Masumi tried to get going here! It's cool, just relax and take it easy...)
She bowed her head slightly to Melody in the meantime, bringing her free arm behind her back to press against her lumbar. "My bad on that, though: really, all me. Liberta's gonna take some getting used to, especially with a bunch of big-shots around. I guess my nerves are really getting to me, ha! It's, uh... My name's Masumi Sakamoto. Just 'Marcy' is fine, though. I hope you're both okay!~"

If the ground could swallow her whole, Penelope would have been fine with it. It's not that she wanted to die or anything quite that morbid. It's just, if she stopped living all of a sudden that would be kind of okay.
Nevertheless, Penelope kept living, and she felt an arm lifting her up, the hand of her employer, Melody Tomozawa.
The girl who had caused the mess was apologizing profusely, and Penelope nodded her head at her introduction.
"Penelope" she said, now back on her patent leather loafers. "Penelope Springs." she began to dust off her jacket before quickly adding in: "And don't call me Penny please."
She gave a sigh and began to pick up the books that had been spilled. "I'm fine, nothing bruised but my ego, as they say." she gave a bit of a forced chuckle, but she did mean it. She was hurt a bit from the fall but she was more hurt at having been seen falling down in public and having to accept help from her employer.
"I trust you're well Miss Tomozawa? Nothing hurt or bruised when the books flew every which way?" she asked as she picked up a book on rulings about Fusion spell cards. Of course she was concerned for her employer. but she also had a task to pick up the books and carry them, and that was her biggest mission for right now as far as she was concerned.

Melody's only response to this was to let out a huge sigh. She needed to resolve this situation before things got out of hand.
First, she turned to Penelope.
"I need to step outside for a moment. Keep an eye on the books, I'll be right back."
She then grabbed Masumi and took her out to the hallway, making sure to close the door behind them. When she turned to Masumi, her expression was surprisingly not angry.
"Now listen, Sakamoto-san......I believe you said that was your name? On the one hand, you don't strike me as the kind of girl who enjoys going around disturbing people by yelling and bumping into them. On the other hand, your actions were still rude and inconsiderate, not to mention the trouble you’ve caused for my butler.”
Suddenly, a faint smile crossed Melody’s face.
“So, I’ve decided. I’ll forgive you on one condition. You’ll join me for afternoon tea the day after tomorrow so that I can lecture you properly. Sound fair?”

It was a relief to Masumi to hear that Penelope wasn't seriously injured by the impact. While most of that relief stemmed from her desire not to hurt anyone, she would be lying if she said that part of it wasn't related to what she would explain to the nurse. The excuse of "skipping isn't running" probably wouldn't work when it hadn't for her own scrapes and bruises, not to mention others'. "Really? Oh, cool! Glad you're not hurt then. Had me worried there for a second.~" the naive girl stifled a chuckle, having no clue that Penelope actually did feel something from being knocked down (ego-based or not).
When Melody spoke up, however, Masumi tilted her head slightly to the side. "Oh. Well, have fun- WHOA! O-Okay, guess I'm goin' with then! See ya, Penny- Wait, no! It's Penelope!~" she called out to Penelope as Melody began to drag her aside. The chorus of shushes came out again as she raised her voice once more, further proving that Miss Sakamoto had no clue what an inside voice was even after several warnings and hints. Her nose filled with the much fresher air of the hallway as they went through the library's exit, the smell of ink and paper being replaced with... Ambient hallway smells? Did hallways even have natural scents?
"Now listen, Sakamoto-san......I believe you said that was your name? On the one hand, you don't strike me as the kind of girl who enjoys going around disturbing people by yelling and bumping into them. On the other hand, your actions were still rude and inconsiderate, not to mention the trouble you’ve caused for my butler.”
"Thaaaat tone of voice sounds like I'm in trouble. And not the 'kinda fun' kind of trouble. Like, the 'you messed up big time' kind of trouble," Marcy began, only to gasp and clasp her hands in front of her chest as if she was pleading. Leaving a terrible first impression on who could be a great friend at school was definitely not the direction she wanted to go with this, especially after showing her great tackling form. "Are you mad?! Please don't be mad! I-It was really my bad, honest! I don't really cause trouble for butlers or anything: heck, I've never really met one in person! Sure, I had a few friends over the years that have talked about something that sounded like a butler, and maybe I saw a few on TV, but... A-Actually, that's not exactly on-topic, is it? My bad. Sorry, uh... Continue?"
“So, I’ve decided. I’ll forgive you on one condition. You’ll join me for afternoon tea the day after tomorrow so that I can lecture you properly. Sound fair?”
"NOOOO! That's cruel and unusual punishment! How could you- ...I-I'm sorry, but did you just say you're giving me tea and lecturing me two days from now? I mean, I kinda have to accept since it'd be rude not to, but... You sure? I kinda knocked over your friend. I should be giving you stuff."

Before Penelope could offer a "yes ma'am" and before she could correct the new girl on what her name was, Melody rushed out the door with Marcy at her arm and shut the door behind them.
Penelope scowled, really really not liking the nickname Penny. It was what her father had called her, his Lucky Penny. But she wasn't feeling particularly lucky at this moment. She just took a spill, fell over backward and was left alone to clean up the mess. Still, nothing good ever came from relying on luck. Only hard work would lead to triumph, so with all that in mind Penelope got to work and once again reclaimed the 8 or so books and carefully balanced them in her arms.
"Hmm..." she glanced at the door, and the armful of books she held, unsure how to shift her weight properly to open the door with her hands full. The original idea was for Melody to act as their hands for this, opening doors and the like, at least for now. At this moment Penelope leaned close to the door, took a deep breath, and began to plan the next part of how to open the door with an arm full of books.
