Masumi had a confident pep in her step, and her chest puffed out with pride. At long last, her place at the Liberta Duel Academy felt secure! Even just wearing the uniform made her feel like she was some kind of superstar. Sure, she made it on on an exception, and yes, she was probably at the bottom of her grade: so what? At the very least, she was in! Even before leaving the dorm room, she had spent at least an hour rolling a lint roller over every inch of her outfit in preparation for wearing it. Today was the day where her luck would turn right around like it had for the past few days: her first victory against a complete stranger in Duel Monsters had been the turning point. Walking around in that Silvolver fit was like toting the crown of royalty in her eyes...
...With a poofy pink sweater tied around her waist, of course. And a hairclip. And a little Rainbow Kuriboh pin for a splash of color. All those desaturated colors in the standard uniform could really bring down the mood. And besides: the part of the dress code that she read said that as long as she had the basics, she was following it! Accessories were totally fair game. She hadn't been dress coded yet, so that was a victory. (Let's see... I don't have anything to do today. Maybe I should try to get a Duel in or something! Everyone that goes here's probably really freaking strong, and the only way I'm gonna see that for myself is to ask one myself!) Marcy cheerfully thought with a smile, beginning to skip a little bit through the hallway to the cafeteria. (Can't get Duelin' on an empty stomach, though. The cafeteria shoooould be right around this cor-)
And there it was. Shimmering like the Holy Grail was a vending machine carrying double-size bags of gummy bears in slots E1 to E5. Its presence caught Masumi mid-thought, and halted her advance as if putting her into a trance. She blinked twice in awe as her mouth begin to water: the fruity, chewy sensation of gummy bears for some pre-game pick-me-up was overwhelming, enough to make her weak in the kness. "It's... I-It's PERFECT! Ha ha, my luck's just getting better!~" she celebrated, darting over to the machine while digging out her wallet. After inserting appropriate change, she mashed on the touch screen for slot E2 to vend. "Alright, gummy bears: come to Mama!~"
Beep beep. Whirrrrr...
S m a c k .
...
The double-size bag of gummy bears was stuck. on the turning mechanism, and was precariously balanced between it and the glass.
"...WHAT?! No, no, no! Aww, come on! What gives?!" she shouted in anger at the vending machine, resisting the urge to kick it. These types of machines likely had some sort of system in place to prevent people from shaking them and stealing snacks, so hitting it was out of the question. Calling for help from a faculty member would take too much time, and buying another snack or drink would be too much food to worry about without a bag to carry it all. (Me and my big mouth, talking about luck. Things don't come easy that much, huh? Hmm... Oh! Wait a second, what am I even thinking? This is a Duel school, and a good one at that! Students have gotta have tests like this all the time! This has gotta be one of those!)
Smirking and practically chucking her Duel Disk onto her left arm in one smooth motion, she widened her stance slightly and squared up with the vending machine. "I see how it is, Mr. Vending Machine! If you don't wanna cough up those gummy bears, I'll pay with a little mix of my money and your Life Points! Let's get this party started!"
The vending machine made no reaction. Masumi scoffed and dismissed the "No Opponent Found" window from her Disk's display. A glitch, perhaps? She knew that Duel Disks could create single-player fields for practice, but her mind was still deadset on treating this like some sort of challenge. "Really? The silent treatment? At least the testing guy had the manners to say something. Whatever: I think I can get us started. Field: set! Give the Deck a shuffle, aaand... Bring it on! DRAW!"
"Hmph! Okay, here I come! I'll summon Fluffal Bear in Attack Position: then, it's one card face down for me so I can end my turn! Gimme your best shot: I'm not giving up until I get my gummy bears!!"
...Still no reaction from the vending machine. Just a moron screaming at a piece of technology whose entire function is to dispense snacks.
Rela watched, now confused by this girl's actions enough to tear her attention from her book. Standing up, the meek girl walked over to a coffee vending machine next to the one she was "dueling." What a strange girl. did she think she has to duel the machine or something?
While she waited for her vanilla espresso, she looked at the other girl. Rela herself wasn't really that obvious to be a student, seeing as her jacket was tied around her waist whilst wearing a fuzzy grey sweater, faded, slightly holey jeans, hair was a ungroomed mess and a pair of glasses that have clearly seen their fair share of abuse due to the dents in the frame and general uneven bend in it. Best not to forget the bulging full bookbag that hung from her shoulder and the book in her hand, still open considering her thumb was between the pages. Can't lose her place after all.
(What a weird girl... i guess she may have a poi- OOH! They have pocky sticks!) Then, without a second thought, Rela pulled a dollar out of her pocket, all kinds of crumpled, and put it in the machine. double checking, she then typed in D2 and waited as the box of choclate covered graham cracker sticks slowly began moving and fell, hitting the gummy bear bag and knocking it down. Knowing that this was the reason the strange girl started this duel with the machine, she smiled and grabbed both treats, her refilled coffee, and made her way to her seat. As she passed the girl and pat her shoulder. "Give it hell... I'll just hold these for now.." She said meekly before sitting down and began slowly munching on her sweet treat while returning to her sweet treat of a book.
Ah! The perfect time to take a little break! Doku was reading some manga in the courtyard, his book was hidden inside his backpack, reading and it was out of sight to anyone else! Quite the way to hide it no? No one would know he was a nerd, not on his watch! He was reading some kinda Isekai story... not gonna get into the details. Well! It's time to get going! He would fold the corner marking his place, Dog Ear style! He was about halfway, hopefully he could finish tonight... he had to know what happened! The elf girl was just about to fight...
Zipping up his bag, he wore it on one shoulder. Man... always getting hungry at the good parts. Well, thank God the school had vending machines! Walking through the halls he would head towards one that did candy, he was craving something sweet. Maybe some gummy bears? Oh! Maybe those really good sour gummies! Sounded like a plan.
Turning the corner he would soon face the vending machine and... a girl? A cute girl! But what was she doing? Her duel disk was activated? Was sh- Fluffle Bear... She was dueling the machine...
Clearning his throat, he would lightly bang against the side of the machine, like people do with their cars. "Well, looks like a time limit win!" Doku joked, leaned to the side, sticking his head between Masumi and the machine looking through the glass. Aw yeah, the candy he wanted!
After returning to his orginal position he looked at Masumi. This chick was... really weird... Doku raised an eyebrow. "Mind tellin me why you're dueling this thing?" She was also apart of Silvolver huh? Well~ Probobly time to introduce himself! He was also wearing his uniform, with no real alterations. "I'm Doku by the way! And you are my dear?" He asks, cracking a smile.

"Heh, thanks! Just watch, I'm gonna- W-Wait, whaaaat?!" Masumi doubled back to stare at Rela in shock. (Is that... Even allowed? She didn't even pull out any cards or anything, but she just went and grabbed it? You'd think they'd turn off the snack part of this thing when it's supposed to test someone...) she questioned, not even grasping the obvious hint that perhaps this is just a normal vending machine that just got stuck. Once Marcy gets her mind set on an outlandish solution to mundane problems, it's difficult for her to get herself back on track without giving it a shot. Deciding to brush it off and point ahead at the vending machine challengingly, she grinned. "...Y-Yeah, whatever! Don't get too comfy, 'cause this thing's goin' down in no time flat! Whatcha waiting for, ya hunk of junk?! It's your turn!~"
...Yep, still no response from her stoic, honorable snack machine of an opponent. Within a few moments of waiting, she winced as her challenging stance weakened into an uncertain head-scratcher. "...Uh, any day now! You're supposed to go all 'my turn', then pull out a card or something. Y'know, like, what you're supposed to do in a Duel? This would be a lot creepier if you had eyes staring at me, but this is still up there," she mumbled in an exasperated confusion. Why wasn't this thing following her lead? Was it supposed to make the first move, like an ambush or something? Perhaps she had to find a secret passcode first to get it to act?
Doku raised an eyebrow. "Mind tellin me why you're dueling this thing?" She was also apart of Silvolver huh? Well~ Probobly time to introduce himself! He was also wearing his uniform, with no real alterations. "I'm Doku by the way! And you are my dear?" He asks, cracking a smile.
"Huh? Uh... Well, at first it kept it, so I thought I had to beat it to get my gummy bears. Then she came up and got them, so I'm just doing it so I'm not cheating myself outta this," she explained plainly, pointing back at Rela sitting nearby with her snack. "My name's Masumi, but most people just call me 'Marcy'! I'm a first year Silvolver student. If it's your turn next on this machine, you might be here for a while. It's sure taking its sweet time with its own turn. Plus, 2-on-1 isn't very fair anyways."
The fact that she's still set on saying this machine would fight her is astounding.
Rela quickly hid her face as soon as she was pointed at. However as soon as she was pointed at, her duel disk beeped and the interface came on, announcing she was now in a duel. she then began tapping frantically at her duel disk.
"No no no! Ohh come on.... why am I in a duel I wasn't even challenged!? my book was just getting really good too..." (This is so unfair.. Who am I even dueling? Masumi Sakamoto.. isn't that...) Rela then stood up suddenly, turning her book upside down before walking over to the girl and guy by the vending machine. "Why are you putting me in a duel? I didn't ask for any duel. And I said I would just be holding them until you were done with... this whole thing." She said as she motioned to her and the vending machine.
Man... the vending machine really was her partner huh? Doku sighed but kept keeping his cool! Speaking up after Masumi, she was quite determined to duel this damned machine... Doku nodded his head, looking at his fellow student. She was pretty cute of course, "The Gummy Bears huh? Well, I'll buy some for you, how about that!" He said cracking a smile.
Soon the idea hit him, he looked at both of the girls. "Well! How about I team up with the machine!" Sure... it was still a 2 v 1 but Masumi might be on board with that! Plus beating two cute girls in a duel? Sounds like a steal!
He looked towards Rela now, cracking his knuckles. Looking at the new girl. "'Oh come on my Rela! Join us! We can have a tag duel with you! If you win... I'll buy you dinner! If I win then... I'll still buy you dinner! It's a win-win really!"

"NEW OPPONENTS FOUND. RESETTING DUEL FIELD."
Marcy's Duel Disk reformatted itself and allowed her to collect her cards before practically slamming them back into her Deck with a cheerful smirk. "Aww, don't be like that! You know how it goes: when you get challenged, you say yes! Not a rule or anything, but it'll be fun, trust me!~" she confidently tried to encourage Rela, shooting her a sly wink. "Let's team up! With my Fluffals and your... Whatever you've got... I'm sure we've got what it takes to pull it off! What's the harm in a little game of Duel Monsters?~"
Immediately skipping the crucial step of waiting for Rela's approval, Masumi turned back to Doku and drew another five cards for her starting hand: Toy Parade, Toy Vendor, Patchwork Fluffal, Edge Imp Scythe, and Frightfur Patchwork. A potentially strong hand if she could draw into any of her Fluffal cards to start fusing like crazy, especially since Frightfur Patchwork essentially gave her a free Polymerization no matter what. The possibility also existed to gamble with Toy Vendor, and Toy Parade and Edge Imp Scythe would work great for powerful discard options due to their Graveyard effects. Her mind was buzzing with excitement at what could be done with just this! First moves were always her specialty...
But unfortunately she would need to step aside, seeing as the generated turn order by her Duel Disk let her know she would be playing last. First was Doku, then Rela, followed by the vending machine (which for some reason now registered as "Kaiba Co. Device"), and finally Masumi. She seemed genuinely surprised to see one other notable difference with the layout, however. "Hmm... Hey, what gives? We're supposed to have 8000 Life Points. We've got 16000. Someone's got some weird settings. Oh well!~" Marcy commented, clearly unfamiliar with the proper Tag Duel ruleset. That alone was bizarre: how could a Liberta student not know how Tag Duels are normally played?
Striking a commanding pose and swiping her free hand back, she grinned and glared at both Doku and the vending machine. "LET'S DUEL! It's all you, 'Roku'... Or 'Moku'. I think it was Moku!" she declared, moreso invested in energy rather than accuracy as evident from her butchering his name.
