PERSONALITY
LIKES:
- Dragons - Spicy food - Competition
DISLIKES:
- Joy killers - Dry food - Unreasonable rules
Rufus is a friendly energetic extrovert. He’s highly competitive when it comes to Duel Monsters or other sports and would never back down from a challenge. Be careful not to insult him or anyone he cares about, as Rufus never lets a slight go by if he could help it. If it was a friend who makes fun of him, Rufus is likely to respond with a prank or other harmless gesture. However, with someone truly mean-spirited, Rufus would not hesitate to defend his or anyone else's honor with a duel or even a physical fight. He especially respects duelists who also play Dragon monsters, as Rufus believes that they’re the coolest monsters ever.
HISTORY
Rufus Breachton was born and raised in Scotland for most of his childhood. His parents are a couple who met while working for a major bank, and his grandfather is a retired professional duelist who used to be famous during the old days of Duel Monsters history. Growing up, he had always enjoyed watching old recordings of his grandfather’s most famous duels, and wanted to also become a professional duelist. His parents however weren’t so supportive, as they pressured Rufus to pursue a career in the financial industry just as they have. Not only were they strict about his performance in school, they made sure to have him study finance when he had time off.
In elementary school, Rufus would often get into fights with people who bullied him because of his natural red hair, usually with him throwing the first punch. After constant pressure from school faculty and even his own parents, he eventually had to start dying his hair black to avoid stirring trouble. This decision was what made him start resenting the rules.
It was only during the holidays when Rufus's grandparents visited that he was able to take a real break from his studies and enjoy fun hobbies such as Duel Monsters. He even was able to play using his grandpa's retired Dragon deck that he only got to see from his recordings, which kindled his love for the strong Dragon-Type monsters.
When it came time to decide where to attend high school, Rufus was able to convince his parents to send him to Liberta Duel Academy with the help of his grandpa who happened to be an alumnus from there. Not only was the school's status prestigious enough to satisfy his strict parents, but this also gave Rufus the opportunity to live away from his parents and enjoy playing Duel Monsters more. As a parting gift, Rufus received his Armed Dragon deck from his grandpa so that he could pursue dueling with his new peers.
Naturally, Rufus would place into the Advance Gold House due to his sole Duel Monsters experience being with his grandpa's traditional cards and with no experience attending local competitions upon until his enrollment. Initially, he struggled to compete with the other students as a result of this lack of dueling experience.
